Recently started watching Enterprise after watching the O.S. and somewhat of Voyager (Janeway got really old really fast). I know Star Trek would never do this because it would go directly against the creator's intent, but it was a huge mistake to look at religion as something to be done away with when hyperdrive is invented or whatever.
DS9 delves a lot more into the different religions and beliefs of warp-capable species, not to mention Sisko's own pseudo-religious role and experiences.

There's even a scene where Sisko flat out goes "there is a limit to how far I'll accommodate cultural diversity on my crew and you have just reached it."
Her girl boss voice is kind of torturous to listen to. But the Pakleds being villains is endearing in it's own Star Trekie way.
Kate Mulgrew is a good actress but the writers for that show got a little too "girl power." I think they didn't know what to do with such an open-ended setting after the first season.

Really highlights the difference: Patrick Stewart compared to someone playing a similar role (Janeway) without his ability to turn a dog's breakfast into a Michelin meal.

I'd give anything to to shove the Federation rulebook up her ass.

It's too bad she couldn't play Janeway like Kove on NTSF:SD:SUV.

I've heard everyone say skip like the first 2-4 episodes so I wanted to give it a try on later parts.

The idea of pakleds being villains amuses me.
She fucking name drops Samaratin Snare. How does she know name. I don't believe it's ever called that in the actual episode... That's what I don't like about Lower Decks. The writers of the episodes are so pleased with themselves just because they've spent some random time browsing Memory Alpha.

Given the ubiquity of the captain's log framing device throughout the franchise, I kinda like the idea of canonizing (some) episode names as the title/description field on the incident reports the characters have to submit after the credits roll. I can't imagine Lower Decks actually handles it that way, though (I'm not clicking that).

Yeah I mean it's entirely possible that just as there's a "Picard Maneuver" there are now starfleet regulations dealing with "Samaritan Snares" - that is when species want to take advantage of the Federation's good graces.

>be me
>assignment on Calder II comes to an end
>Starfleet is pleased
>I traveled across the galaxy and got sand in my ass to please Starfleet
>2LT Love Slave becomes 1LT Love Slave and gets a staff position in some special recon unit
>1SG moves up to SGTMAJ with battalion HQ
>old CO from when I was E-5 promoted to CPT and becomes company commander
>I get promoted to E-7
>kinda cool to work with old CO again
>unit sent to Qualor II
>we're basically there to keep a presence and help the Zakdorn run Surplus Depot Z15
>it's a junkyard
>informed by CPT that it's "a very important junkyard"
>new 2LTs coming in still wet behind the ears and new NCOs need more training but what else is new?
>being a Gunny rules, I get to help CO plan operations
>only problem is new company 1SG
>Zakdorn assigned to be 1SG because the Zakdorn insisted there be a "strategic mind" at the company NCO level for some stupid fucking reason
>Starfleet says okay, sounds cool
>the dude looks like Baron Harkonnen
>constantly fucking eating, must have gotten some sort of cultural accommodation waiver because there was no fucking way this dude did PT in his life
>1SG Harkonnen doesn't get his security clearances in order before deploying, needs someone else to access pretty much any record or enter any ops center
>got angry he was never involved in operations, CPT tries to be diplomatic, explains his job is discipline, morale, and professional development of NCOs
>1SG Harkonnen constantly challenges me to Strategema
>I always decline because fuck this dude
>one day his nagging gets the best of me and I say fine, I'll play you, let's do it bitch
>1SG Harkonnen goes around bragging about how he's going to win
>I decide to go around playing it up like a goddamn carnie
>a betting pool forms, fanclubs emerge, the match gets hyped up like crazy because there's fuck all to do in a very important junkyard
>day of the match comes, people gather round like a schoolyard fight
>put those retarded finger-things on
>spend the entire match controlling one section of panels so this idiot can never fully win because this game is fucking stupid and easily cheesed
>1SG Harkonnen eventually gets pissed, starts screaming at me about cheating, not playing the game right
>pieces of food fly out of his huge mouth onto the table
>while he's on tilt, I break out and beat him
>dude has an existential crisis, how could I lose to this human, what have I been doing with my life, wah wah wah
>goes into a major depression and has to be replaced
>that replacement becomes me
>end up doing two jobs, more paperwork than I ever wanted in my fucking life

The Prophets cannot be real because if they can really see everything, why didn't they warn us about any of this?

Cardassia was right.

The Prophets never made a lick of sense.

In the pilot episode they ask Sisko what "what is time" and eli5 us on how linear time works, yet later in season 7 its revealed that one of them went to earth 40 years ago in order to fuck some random ass shrimp eating nigger so that thier child can become thier Emissary and savior of the universe.

They had a worm hole alien civil war, and won, but the instead of killing off the evil Pah Wraiths they imprisoned them in the fire caves on Bajor just so they can have another civil war. oh and they gave the crinkle nosed Bajorans instructions how to release them. Yea they totally saw all this coming and just wanted it to play out in this dramatic fashion.

You're better off just turning your brain off and going with the flow.

I just find it concerning that the Prophets cosigned everything from Voyager to the present day.

They knew about the Kes subplot and did nothing.

Well, they were fine with killing Akorem before the Sisko told them to send him back in time instead. They don't really care about people until Sisko makes them to.

Really highlights the difference when you have Patrick Stewart compared to someone portraying a similar role (Janeway) without his ability to turn a dog's breakfast into a Michelin meal.
Picard asking "Thoughts?" and listening to the input of the crew is my favorite part of TNG.

Kirk really only listened to Spock, and Janeway listened to nobody, not even her future self.

The Prophets start making sense when you view them as giant assholes or reddit mods.
I think, as far as godlike entities go, the Prophets are the most realistic because they make no sense and only interact with the rest of the universe through Sisko, who is their intermediary. The obvious answer is the writers didn't know what they wanted to do in seasons 1-2 and things changed by season 7, but making them oddly powerful and nonsensical was - I think - the right move. Better to keep them confusing than try to make sense of it.

Season 2 posted by SFDebris. This is when he brings up "bed of meh" and the times Lower Decks disappears up its own ass.
