Star Wars Expanded Universe Fans/Cultists - I HOPE YOU LIKE STAR WARS AUTISM

Denning also has a torture porn fetish. Quite a number of his Star Wars novels feature torture scenes that go on for way too long.

He did a really long torture scene in the last LOTF book didn't he? I brushed it off because it was Fett's granddaughter, and Denning made it pretty clear that he was annoyed with Traviss' invincible super Mandos. Also, because I skimmed it.

I respect that on some level. If I was writing a glorified fan-fiction, I would take every opportunity to mess with other authors' mary sues.

It would be funny if it were a one-time thing, but Denning puts the shit in almost ALL his books. One of the last published EU books before the Disney takeover was Crucible and it was written by Denning. Almost all the reviews for the book point to the fact it was filled with unnecessary torture scenes that were way too graphic. Even some fans of Denning started to admit Denning's torture porn fetish was getting out of hand.

If anyone's interested, about the only books I'd read are:

Thrawn Trilogy by Zahn
Hand of Thrawn by Zahn
X-Wing series by Stackpole. The Allston books are hit-and-miss, but probably okay.
I, Jedi by Stackpole
Traitor by Stover
Scoundrels by Zahn

After that, it's really up to how far into the shit-pool you want to wade. I know NJO is really popular, but I think it was pure crap with the exception of Traitor, and that's only interesting because it adds some shades of grey to the Dark Side/Light Side dichotomy.

I found NJO hit enough that I stuck through the misses, but I pirated all of it so that probably lowers my bar a lot. And anything with Lando's army of skeleton droids that all talk like Billy Dee Williams and wade into battle with a battle cry of YOURE GOD A SHIT is pretty cool.

So, confession time. ... I'm a bit of a Fandalorian. It kinda caters to the inner Halo fanboy within me since the Mandalorian armor and Boba Fett in particular remind me a bit of the Spartan-IIs and John-117. The jetpack was also something that catered to my childishness that I still kinda hold fondly today. I also was a huge fan of Battlefront II (like, literally got the Legendary medal for every single possible accolade) and Boba Fett was insanely fun to play in BF2.

That being said... yeeaaah, what little I've skimmed of the EU shows that Boba Fett is vastly played up by the fandom. I guess it's just the illusion that, in a universe with Jedi, the Force, impractical double-bladed lightsabers, etc., some people like to believe that all you need to survive is a gun and your wits. To think of it, Han Solo had a quote about this in the Original Trilogy that summed up this mindset quite nicely:

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a blaster by your side.

So, yeah, the Mandalorians sometimes reach Mary Sue levels of unbearable... but I can't help but love them. :| Not as obsessively as some of the fandom, but they hold a special part of my heart.

Yeah, the post-movie EU seemed pretty fucking ridiculous and I'm glad to see it go.

On the other hand, I can see a place for the pre-movie EU, because, well it leaves plenty of room for original characters and stories without the need to fuck up established and beloved characters from the films. Although to be honest, as much as I love the KotOR timeline and the games, I do think that the more than obvious references to the movies did a disservice to the games (I even remember old developer interviews where they said that the Ebon Hawk was supposed to be a reference to the Millennium Falcon.) But one pre-movie EU story that I really want to delve into is the Dawn of The Jedi arc. I know some things are best left without an origin story, but the Jedi surely deserve one.

Whats funny is the only EU storyline that is still going is the KOTOR series with SWTOR. They just released an xpac a few months ago that had some pretty heavy storylines in it. I wonder if that'll be added in to the new universe Disney is creating or be it's own little thing.

Also Boba Fett is shit-tier Mandalorian. He began his career in the Star Wars Christmas Special, solidifying his role as the worst Mandalorian in history. Pre Vizsla was more of a badass than Boba Fett ever was, and he got BTFO by Darth Maul. Fett has no excuse.

I want the Star Wars Holiday Special to be canon because the thought of Bea Arthur running the Mos Eisley Cantina is too perfect and wonderful to me.

I love that awful special but then again, I love a lot of things that are actually garbage.

I love the Star Wars movies, but I want nothing to do with the fandom. I actually used to be more active in the fandom years ago (I'd rather not say where if that's okay) but quit five or so years ago because the community sucked hard. What started out as moderate sperging turned into a diehard spergfest at the end.

Since a lot of people have brought up the Fandalorians it's worth pointing out that the Boba Fett Fan Club is the ultimate spergnest as far as Fandalorians go.

And don't even get them started on Clan Skirata from RepCom. No idea why people thought those child murdering psychos were good heroes.

Hasn't Disney made an official statement stating that only the movies are canon?

Because if that's the case, then that means that the Star Wars Holiday Special is more canon than the EU.

The very thought of that and how some of the EU fanatics must react to it is glorious.

It's movies, Clone Wars, Rebels, but I'm pretty sure not specials. Otherwise, those Ewok movies would be canon too.

I'm not familiar with the spergery of EU fans outside a bit of fandalorians but I may as well ask: what makes these fans of Clan Skirata see the latter as good heroes?

One could expect EU fans to be hating Disney for making EU non-canon, especially if it can be something related to one of the fandoms within such as the fandalorians.

The amount of bitching that came from this decision Disney made should not have come as a surprise considering how long the EU (or Legends, as it is now) had been going on and how much was in it. That being said, the only thing I'm sad about is the loss of Shadows of the Empire from the canon.

Traviss bashes the reader over the head repeatedly about how much the Jedi suck and how the Mandos are good. Then she has a bunch of them act ridiculously out of character so,she can have her OCs look good in comparison. Traviss Jedi are depicted as being incompetent morons who treated their clones as cannon fodder, with apparently everyone in the Republic treating them like droids. According to her, only the Mandos and "good" characters (good according to Traviss anyway) treated the clones like people.

Thank god she didn't write Canderous in KOTOR

'AND THEN CANDEROUS PUSHES REVAN OUT OF THE WAY, WHO DROPPED HIS LIGHTSABER AND LOST IT, AND FIRED HIS GUN AND DESTROYED THE ENTIRE SITH FLEET AND SAVING THE REPUBLIC. HE IMMEDIATELY BECAME KING OF THE GALAXY AND EVERYONE BECAME A MANDO. THE END"

I can relate to this. I always thought Boba Fett was kind of cool looking. I liked that he was just basically a blank slate that did a couple of things critical to to plot and they never really explained who he was. I also never was really a fan of the Jedi, because people with super powers and weapons capable of cutting anything and deflecting projectiles seems really overpowered. Of course I never delved far into the EU so I never heard all the bullshit Fett does there that would ruin the character for me by Mary Sueing him.

Don't they kind of act like that in the movies though? Besides that one time Anakin wants to save the pilots? While it is kind of why I like the Clone Wars, both sides use mass produced armies that only make the fighting worse by removing the human cost of war, I still think she makes a valid point. As Galactic Peacekeepers the Jedi seem too indifferent to the fact that Clones exist to fight and ultimately die without a choice. But Travis is extreme for portraying the Jedi as evil and dumb for using clones when they seem overwhelmed and resigned to their use by necessity and I can see why you dislike her. Vilifying Jedi seems really dumb considering that in all the movies they are obviously heroes and generally good people.

That's what I thought too. But that doesn't seem to be the case here. And as much as I don't like the idea of the clone army and the Jedi's indefference in general. They're still by all accounts the good guys. Besides, we already have enough villains (both in canon and in the EU). We don't need more of them, even if they're forced.

And speaking of Boba Fett. I really only thought of the guy as someone with a cool look, ship and voice. I never once thought he acted all badass and such. Especially with his easy defeat at the hands of his recently-freed captive.
