Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

Didn't Todd claim they had some new superface-tech that would help them making "realistic" characters?
Why do most NPCs look like some unholy spawn of Somalis and Abbos?
Normal Niggers aren't as ugly as the Starfield ones.
Guerrilla Games caught some flak for some of the NPCs in Horizon being lifeless. The models, textures and VA work was good but the animation work was not up to the level of quality people expected. It didn't help that most of the main cast/story NPCs had very nice animations so there was a disconnect between the two. FF16 is probably the latest incarnation of this problem.

There's an argument that the dev can't be expected to have the same level of quality for the whole game, especially for these big open world games with lots of side quests. I mostly agree but there has to be some minimum level of quality and if a percentage of the content doesn't meet to that minimum then you have to ask why is it there.

The funny thing is that GG worked on a new system for facial animation for Horizon 2 that was much better. It's still full of "minorities" and fat ugly people but it does work. Even then the abominations that Starfield is producing is a step beyond just Diversity™.

Their development cycle is so long and there's so much internal bureaucracy that they're only now processing feedback from Oblivion.
I had a lot of fun with Oblivion and I never figured out that you had to sleep to level up (I was a kid). My favorite quest was the murder mystery in the mansion. Shivering Isles and Dark Brotherhood were also great.

More seriously, who the fuck has a an old-ass 1070 and an SSD?
Dude we had SSDs in 2008 and earlier. I still have a broken 64GB Corsair Xtreme SSD from ages ago, back then the discussion was around controller types, this one had something called Indilinx Barefoot or w/e, lots of these corpos died since.
Just as a bit of lore.
As for the 1070 it's a 2017 card (?) back then there were very popular SSDs from Samsung like the 950, 960, 850-860 series.

I couldn't get this guy to give me the eye thing but the lighting really evokes Ape Escape

Digital Foundry finds the game to be beautiful and technically amazing. Very interesting because I really doesn't look like that to me.

I do question what the point of Bethesda much touted item presentence really is? Is this really the reason we can't move on Gamebryo?

Digital foundry are hack frauds that just spew buzzwords and don't actually know what they are talking about, but everyone takes them as gospel. Their comment section is all pseudo intellectuals. They also test image clarity while using motion blur, depth of field, chromatic abberation, and they praise TAA and DLSS like the second coming of Christ. I'm sick of seeing them everywhere because anyone who isn't clinically braindead can do what they do. BESPOKE.

This game is so scuffed that even Re-shade is affected with weird resolution scaling

There are a bunch of random render targets that are constantly getting written, deleted, created and shifted around each frame, viewing them in reshade just gives random garbage. Scuffed ass engine, I might run it through renderdoc later and see whats going on.

LOD transitions are really stupid, they are dithered transitions since that would get hidden by TAA blur, but unlike any other game there are partial LOD transitions. In something like Unreal the LOD transitions smoothly using dithering (when enabled), but never partially, once you cross the threshold it moves over (there is some randomness to the disance to avoid uniform transitioning), in this it blends between LOD based on distance. This means distant objects are stuck halfway between LODs and you aren't actually saving any performance since the high res model is still loaded and rendered at the same time as the low res, and its dithered with frame jitter, so it just becomes a blurry blob with TAA or upscaling, and a flickering annoyance with no TAA.

There is no way this shit took 5 years to make. These are mass efect 1 tier graphics
Currently watching some associates play this and it looks perfectly fine for a bethesda game and an improvement over FO4 but I applaud you for not only looking like someones gmod screenshot from 09 but also adding the worst dithering/film grain anyone has ever seen outside of star citizen.

A couple of days ago I was watching some Youtuber review the Fallout Frontier mod and he described one of the characters as looking like they're simultaneously 16 and 45 at the same time.

That's what most of these characters look like.

A lighting mod & head mesh overhaul results in better looking characters than this game. An RPG made in 2011 is better than Starfield.

What annoys me is that John is presenting the game in a really misleading way. Starfield really isn't the massive universe full of interesting things he's making it out to be. I could forgive it being ugly or running bad if it was but it just isn't.

It's sci-fi Fallout 4 with a space section and bad procedurally generated maps to pad out the game. Calling the game beautiful or even an in-depth RPG just are objectively wrong. There are things to like in Starfield but this insistence on pretending it's something special when it really isn't is just baffling.

I hadn't been following much of the pre-release footage, so I was somewhat interested in the game simply because it was another Todd game.
But, man, after watching some streams, it seems like some of my favorite aspects of Todd's games have been toned down or just butchered here.

All the land being randomly generated is such a bad design, since, imo, exploring the hand-crafted world of Fallout 4 was the game's only good aspect, and was also a highlight in Skyrim and Morrowind. It seems like these random lands will be just a bunch of Oblivion (which was shit).
And having a bunch of random, unkillable, non-characters, NPCs walking around the cities, when having unique, killable NPCs was one of Todd's games' most unique features.
These two designs pretty much killed any interest I had.

I'll probably wait a couple years and see how the modding community develops, to decide if I play it eventually.
Though, it has been 8 years since Fallout 4 and it is still not even close to how Skyrim's modding scene was when Fallout 4 was released, let alone now.
