How do you think Starfield will turn out?

That's the Rockstar engine

Starfields engine was made in the 90's
Sort of, it depends on when you consider it the beginning of the engine. NetImmerse was started in 1997, becoming Gamebryo by 2003. Bethesda games used some version of it (no idea what version) until around 2011-ish when they forked Fallout 3's codebase (meaning whatever version of Gamebryo they used in 2008 ) into their Creation Engine, which was then patchworked until Starfield when they called it "Creation Engine 2."

Even its history is a convoluted mess.

I can honestly say that having watched the trailer for Squadron 42 and also Synthetic Man's review of Starfield, that I think the former will be a better "space" game than the latter. I have actually come to believe that Chris Roberts and his cult will wind up mogging Todd Howard and Bethesda now.

Nice fucking job, Todd, you dipshit. Oh and It's a much better idea to play Cyberpunk 2077 rather than Starfield right now. Even if you think that Cyberpunk sucks, it's still a better experience than Starfield is, especially with the new expansion.

God damn. You've got me in existential terror that Chris Roberts might actually deliver where Todd Howard failed. Thanks man. I was already going to have nightmares thanks to listening to people howl in agony as the Blackwall ate them from the inside out after finishing Phantom Liberty, and you've just made them immeasurably worse.

If it makes you feel any better, surpassing Starfield is not exactly a high bar to clear, so you could just as easily put some random AA or indie game off of steam on that list too, honestly. Starfield really fucking sucks, it's not exactly going to be hard to make a better game comparatively speaking.

The jetpacks must have been added after the buildings were designed, as area defenses are geared towards repelling ground assaults.

This is fucking embarrassing...

I think they're just dumb and couldn't think of anything. They gutted levitation because it could be cheesed. Now they added back in jetpacks that can be cheesed and never addressed the changes they added to the world design since adding them back. The design where everything must have a quick exit that dumps you out back at the entrance internally or above it externally.

I'm replaying FO4 so I can compare it to Starfield and the enemy variety is actually way way better than I remember.

There's 5-6 raider variants 4-6 super mutant variants, 5-6 synth variants, around 10 different ghoul variants, the faction troops, probably 20 different mutant animals including the DLCs.

Starfield has one generic raider enemy, alien bug, 1 alien bug 2, and alien wolf 1.

God everything about this game fucking sucks, I hate it.

They really need to fast track the creation kit/mod tools.

They must really be trying to scrub a ton of shit from the files or something. I realize that there has been a delay before but Starfield needs this shit more than any of their other games IMO.

I don't get why they wouldn't just release it by now. They really must not be expecting to sell anything through the holidays, you'd think they'd want someone, anyone, putting up something that might improve the game some.

Outer Worlds(a superior title) also had a low enemy variety but at least each one behaved differently. Does Starfield even have this, or is everything just a reskin of creatures from Fallout and TES?

The files have already been datamined and a homebrew Creation Kit has been in use for weeks now. If they're trying to bury something, it's too late now.

Maybe it’s hubris and Todd is astounded that anyone would want to try and mess with his magnum opus and that you can’t improve on perfection?

If they let modders get to work on the game then how will they sell shitty Creation Club shit made by Ellianora or a Warthog from Halo to drive around the empty planets? Microsoft sees free mods as lost revenue and will do anything to make them disappear.

I don't know, Todd seemed to imply in pre release videos that he thought the game would be divisive. Hell, he even said the game didn't become "fun" until 2022, and I'm starting to think now that even as he said that he knew there were issues. He certainly doesn't seem to come off as someone who thinks it's perfect, and I kind of wonder if how everything went with Starfield is the reason he's begun talking about retirement.

I still think that there is a base for *something* here, and that there are aspects that can be fun. But even playing the parts I thought were fun, I got burned out within the first month where as I can go through Skyrim and Oblivion today and have just as much fun as I always have. Hell, I'm not the biggest fan of Fallout but I feel like I can jump into New Vegas and Fallout 4 and still get through more of the games than I could with Starfield at this point.

I really do think it's something to do with scrubbing unused shit from the files. Or maybe even fixing stuff that isn't obvious on the surface but glaringly obvious when you look through the game in Creation Kit or something.
