STARSECTOR - Best $15 you'll ever spend

Use Sseth's key if you want a free demo.

90% sure this still works and will continue to work since despite Alex being a push-over, he's still based where it counts.

Thats actually one of the coolest things about starsector to me, despite the fact the biggest review of the game also doubles as a piracy guide, Alex still posts the download for the game publicly. Nothing is hidden behind a login, you can just download the latest version and put in Sseths key and play the game.

I don't know much of it, but apparently the drama it created in the community was even funnier.

Not that it's the first modding drama they had tho.

I just started playing after this video appeared on my feed. Been enjoying so far, it's a pretty good space "mount and blade".
Trading/smuggling is pretty good. Haven't colonized yet, still figuring out all the ship and weapon types

btw I didn't need to use any key at all. Downloaded from the official website, installed, ran the game an it never asked me for a key.
This happen to anyone?

Been thinking of getting into Starsector, any mods you guys recommend for a new player? I'm looking to roleplay as an Indian captain/pirate, so Rapesector is a must.

I only use 2 utility mods
Larger Zoom Out, for more visibility
SpeedUp, helps grind and makes battles faster, also helps with piloting slower ships
Other than that
TriOS, it's a mod manager, not necessary, but it has a neat menu to easily change the amount of RAM the game uses.

Just a heads up that you don't really need this, it basically just sets/overrides the maxCombatZoom and maxCampaignZoom properties that can be found and adjusted in the normal <starsector installation folder>/data/config/settings.json file.
you are talking about convenience, why even go to the game config file when a mod already does a quick override for you?

I wish more mods added exploration content instead of - or rather, without - new factions, ships and weapons: ship and weapon bloat / power creep is what led me to a mod-lite playthrough, but now that I'm going through it the game feels threadbare not for lack of ships but for lack of personal touch outside the core worlds. HMI is one example of a mod that feels overstuffed with ships & weapons even after the author's debloating, but whose unique systems I miss encountering by chance.

I'd try making a mod myself, but then I wouldn't be surprised by what I find.

You know what, I have to agree a bit. That being said I'd imagine it's more of a sandbox than an RPG, the foundations are there but like you said some things are lacking personal touches. As for exploration mods...yeah I wish there were more vanilla-esque exploration mods that made more use out of vanilla ships and whatnot.

So basically, more handcrafted system like that one Hegemony lost outpost with a buncha AI ships lurking, yeah?

I think Alex is going to have to face, at some point, that Starsector can't just be a combat sim anymore. Exploration is getting more interesting but needs more stuff, and the popularity of nexerlin should indicate that there needs to be more economic/political simulation. The ease of which you can do everything just to service the combat in a game with a story about a sector that is supposedly dying and grimdark pushes the suspension of disbelief with every new patch.

my broh alex has literally said he does not give a flying fuck about other things and his focus will remain on combat'ing.
he said that once bloaterellin was the most popular mod and he still sticks to it by this day, he is not wrong for having a focus though, he is wrong for turning the modding scene in his game into a hellscape with bullshit like letting people own cuckright shit for their mods.
