Steven Universe - Now a Griefing Thread

I watch it with my little sister occasionally. It's not terrible like I thought it would be (not super ugly with overly saturated colors like most cartoons) but it's not that engrossing and I don't see why grown people like it so much/praise it for a "complex" plot.

Because they're a bunch of trannies.

From what I've seen, people (especially on Tumblr and the LGBT crowd) are praising it because it shows characters in varying levels of relationships that are not male or female. The gems themselves are genderless. Basically, they're walking, talking space rocks. Yet it also portrays lesbian relationships, such as with Ruby and Sapphire (despite the gems being genderless, they all, so far, are have she/her pronouns. I dunno, it's all insane).

This is why I think it's such a popular show amongst adults.

I feel like the show has kind of become the new MLP phenomenon. Both shows have a large emphasis on songs and strong female characters and are popular both with neckbeards and SJWs. Not to mention that both shows were created by women and have a largely adult fanbase despite being for kids.
In all honesty, I think SU is the superior show, but the fandom is worse.

It takes a bit to be good, but once it gets good, it gets really good.

I think one huge factor that makes the story good is the strong continuity, you'll not only have often call backs to earlier episodes but also little forshadowing details.
Yesterday for example I noticed in "beach city drift" that Ronaldo's girlfriend is in the crowd; several episodes before this character is properly introduced.
But to notice such details you actually have to watch the series more than once.

One of the biggest things that might people put off is the episodes' length in my oppinion. The series has managed to pull of some amazing moments, but I always have the feeling, that the awesomeness is diminished by the short amount of time. Most crowning moments get better by having some time to build up, so the anticipation of the viewer is drawn out just a little bit longer.
Although I must admit, that Steven Universe pulled of making one awesome moment that works exspecially because of the short amount of time it takes place. I mean the second Sugulite fusion. That scene nails this punch-in-the-gut terrifying feeling.

This gay ass Tumblr cartoon got me really mad at
the first Greg and Rose flashback. It should've been a two parter.

I'm all caught up! I think I like the show in general. It's very good, but not great.
The most unique thing about the show is the Gems themselves, there hasn't really been a fantasy race like them in the world of animation.

God I know the fandom is cancer, but I kept hearing music from the show and decided to check it out. Just finished the first season. What a great show. Funny, entertaining, and surprisingly moving. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Even though the creator doesn't want to admit and some snotty fans will take her word as law, "town episodes" are shitty filler.

Meh. Some are worse than others. Typically I enjoy the Pizzas and the Frymans - minus Reynaldo - focus episodes, but I don't really care for Lars or Onion.

I really need to keep up with this show more.

I never saw it aside from some clips and .gifs. I dunno, it just never seemed to appeal to me. I do, however, really like how it's a primarily female cast (or 'presenting' as female since gems technically have no sex or whatever).
I've heard that it's supposedly obvious that Pearl and Rose Quartz were a lesbian couple and if that's true, then neat-o I guess.

The girl that Steven hangs out with reminds me of a a knock-off Connie from King of the Hill even though I don't think it's 100% accurate.

Last I heard the community was afraid that what happened to MLP was gonna happen to Steven Universe: the neckbeard set would try and hog the fandom and end up perverting it into some bizzaro thing were the intended child (and possibly girl) audience would get butted out so some dipshit can draw scat porn where Garnet is gangraped and how somehow the show is really for losers in their late teens/20s.

I've heard the community sucks and leans to the SJW side but I really hope it can just be a cool-ish thing for kids and enjoy being female-centered but interesting for boys and girls.
