Stop Killing Games (EU edition) - Moldman vs. Publishers

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I am all for "Pirate Everything" and "Total Game Company Death" Ross arc, I can already feel it in my bones. He will try and hide his disappointment in the upcoming news videos, but little by little the cracks will show. He put way too much effort and energy into this, it will crush him.
Dude, Ross has complained at least so many times that this is never happening. He is okay with piracy as needed [IE to play old games or arcade-only games] but piracy doesn't solve this problem.

Online-only games are like buying a key to an apartment. You didn't buy the apartment, you just spent the money you would spend on an apartment on the key to it. You have full use of the key and can go to the apartment whenever. Pirating it means someone made a mold of the key and is giving copies away, but you still don't own the apartment.

Shutting down the servers is the property owners demolishing the building and not taking the keys back. You have a key to an apartment you cannot use, because the apartment itself does not exist anymore. Pirating it does you no good because there are no doors to put the keys in, whether they are free keys or not.

That's why SKG is about trying to force companies to at least do SOMETHING, equivalent to giving the key holders a free copy of the building plans [making it so the customers can host their own servers] or other possible options, like making an offline mode [something I can't believe single-player games like The Crew didn't get].

And there are certain cases where if you reverse-engineer the plans, you get sued.

Good thing Americans did a better job at stopping companies from arbitrarily changing terms of service and fucking over the customers... Right? :story:

Sorry, I forgot that Amerifats kvetched when the evil EU forced Apple to finally use a connector everyone else including Apple because it's literally communism despite people bitching and moaning they need a special cable only for their iPhone when everything else uses the same cable already. Or that they forced Microsoft to allow you uninstall Edge despite everyone bitching and moaning how they couldn't do that for years.

Fucking hell, if anything you should be celebrating that the useless Europoors were in fact useless and your beloved megacorpos can still fuck you up the ass raw since you love it so much.
Forcing plug parity was gay as hell. Companies should be allowed to sell whatever proprietary plug they want as long as it works and doesn't set you on fire. If you don't like it, don't buy it, lords knows I haven't.

Correct.

Even tho I signed the petition, that was mainly to see how the publisher would kvetch and lobby.
But the key was, and still is, just don't buy always online games, especially when they are primarily singleplayer.
Want to use your USB-C charger, don't buy Apple, don't want to put up with a launcher, buy on GOG or look up if the Steam key comes with DRM.

Consumer, and by extensions gamer, are such cattle, they even fail to understand the simplest form of supply and demand.
Stop being consumers and become customers.

I’m disappointed in gamers. I was under no illusion that they had a spine.
“Gamer Rise Up” is an ironic meme for that very reason.

But the fact that most gaming youtubers think SKG is too controversial to cover, and that their audiences aren’t even messaging them to talk about it, paints a far more pathetic picture of gamers than I expected.

Wishing Ross and the EUCI organizers good luck. Maybe some youtubers will manage to find their spine and actually cover the issue. If not, then the EUCI will fail.

SKG doesn't just have the EUCI; it also has other options it's pursuing, like consumer protection agencies.
That faggot Pirate Software trashing it too certainly didn't help. If only he had trashed it when everyone hated him instead of before.

Games that I paid for being taken away from me should be met with an armed extraction team to steal the source code. It really is too bad we live in this shitty cyber dystopia, instead of the more interesting ones.
Give it twenty more years and you and your chooms can break into Ubisoft HQ to steal source code for The Crew 3, so long as you can survive their Ubisoft Killbots.

It's tragic that he's the voice for this movement. Bless his heart for being the only person who seemingly gives a shit, but it's clear he is punching way above his weight here, he really should have had more help from people who deal in politics for a living.
The blackpilled arc once this doesn't go thru is real.

This has come a long way since kvetching about The Crew 2(lol) on /v/. Good to see there's actual explanations of what they specifically want now instead of just crying about servers going down. I'd support it on the basis of killing Thing as a Service bullcrap alone.
Discord killing forums forever will never not piss me off. Discord can barely be a voice chat app, it has not ONCE been more effective than a forum.
Forums were already long dead (or at least really niche) before Discord came out.

Ross has uploaded a wrap-up/not-so-final update regarding the initiative where he goes over its status, his evaluation of how the campaign has went so far and the possible outcomes, and the rest of the video is him rebutting that weaselly fuck Maldavius Figtree. Godspeed, EU bros! For ownership.

...wish I could've chipped in, but I'm not an EU citizen. Guess piracy is still the best I could do in such cases, after all.

Not a big fan of him throwing in the towel this early. Yeah, I get it; you don't want to dedicate the rest of your life to such a lowly (comparatively) problem while your sanity, time, and energy are sapped away day by day. But these things are never quick and if you were going to fold this quickly you may have as well never bothered in the first place.

But he is right about apathy. That is; people don't care about SKG because they no longer care about games themselves. Honestly, who really cares if you can't play Concord anymore? Most games worth playing were generations ago and weren't tied to online checks, so there's zero incentive to preserve them further.

Honestly though, I think it will fix itself in due time. With the rise of indie games, big publishers are becoming increasingly irrelevant. And while indie titles could be guilty of adopting bad DRM policies, I suspect the market will decide the right outcome (and I'm not some hyper free-market fag either).

Not me either, its disappointing, at some point hopefully he will be back on it again.

When it comes to Indie games its the easiest way for low effort woke activists to get into gaming, so there is a lot of crap and fagottry going on. If you think AAA games have it bad when it comes to being delisted and removed, its even worse for indie game since a lot pretty much are digital releases. So indie games is not the golden goose you think it is.
