This. Seriously.
I had gender identity crisis when I was in my mid-teens (I think it was a way of coping with abuse). Luckily tumblr didn't exist, I don't think or else I would have been wrongly validated constantly or something.

Me too although it didn't have anything to do with abuse. I was always like that - playing with toys aimed at the opposite sex, having more friends of the opposite sex and so on .When I was a teenager there was a time when I hated people who were the same gender as me. I just couldn't connect with them. Then I found online trans communities and it all went downhill from there. I also had a short relationship with a trans woman irl who later detransitioned.

If you are a confused teenager everything these people say makes sense. I believed the whole identity crap and I guess had I known tumblr I would have become a special snowflake too.
The thing is - the more you get involved the crazier you get because critique or pointing out contradictions is absolutely forbidden and everyone who does it is cisseixt/transphobic and so on and gets harassed. There are seriously mentally ill people and narcisstis in this community who can't deal with any form of dissent. Really cultish if you ask me.

I grew up and learned things about the trans community/identity politics that changed my mind completely. Now I'm still gender nonconforming but I laid all my labels and identities to rest forever.

What I learned from interacting with the trans community is that there's a lot of variation in how an understanding of your gender identity manifests and that Tumblr is an environment where it's really distressingly easy for other people to dictate how that manifestation is for you and/or dictate to others what it means to be X.

yeah, im quite the same. I have to confess tho that due to my native language, which is more strongly tied to grammatical gender than english i mostly refer myself by neutral terms (for example theres a female form for the word "student" in my native tongue, i prefer using the neutral one when talking about myself, have been doing this since i was a child) and people quite often correct me for it. I dont really mind it tho, i just think its kind of ridiculous that they correct me...

I'm sure I would have been a special snowflake too if I joined tumblr during my most impressionable/confusing times. That's what's so scary about looking at these snowflakes-- I was just several years off from potentially becoming one.
I also hated people of my own sex during my younger years, and thought my 'masculine' interests made me a candidate for being a trans male. Which, surprise, it didn't.
I think what helped me the most was moving my gender issues from being an identity thing, and I just took the gender OUT of the stuff I liked- then things made more sense.

A gentle reminder that its widely considered bad form to post points that amount to 'i too have/am X but are better than this lolcow because Y'

Theres a fine line between seeing something of oneself in a cow and oversharing that information.

Not aiming that at anyone in particular but its a bit of a problem in this subforum and the threads here are getting a reputation.

Ah, sorry-- I'm sure I sounded like this.
I'm just trying to relate some past issues I've had so this person so they can see that not everything is super bleak and 'the end of the world'
I wasn't trying to sound better than anyone-- just I have a couple more years on them and some similarities and thought it might be somewhat helpful or something.
I've said my share about myself though! I have no more life experience to share on this subject

I find it amazing how many people on Tumblr have no clue that the Internet as a whole doesn't work like Tumblr. Every time I maybe start thinking that the site isn't terrible I see something like this too late.

It really reminds me of the old "walled garden" AOL days where (you thought) everything you could have possible have wanted was on AOL's pages so that when you ventured out into the broader web after Eternal September started, you thought everywhere was like the old "garden".

I like to think a lot of the stupid 14 year olds on Tumblr are just going to grow out of it eventually.
The problem when they're 25 and still acting like a special snowflake.
I feel bad for the dumb 14 year olds-- everything on Tumblr is easily saved, and if someone reblogs your embarrassing thing it doesn't easily disappear. Having all your dumb young phases archived with people having the power to spread it even more with just a hit of the reblog button sounds terrifying.

The most infamous people that I know who act like this are in their late 30s and 40s. They don't grow out of it.

What's the most amazing thing about Tumblr is that it doesn't even need to be widely shared. You can find anything ever posted on Tumblr, even if it was later deleted, as long as it has a single reblog. That's all it takes to keep it online forever. Artists trying to hide their loli/shota rape guro past can't do that.

I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be. Someday tumblr will cease to be relevant, it might even disappear from the internet entirely. Until then most people will forget about it once that person stops acting like a spazz. The only reason people still talk about Dobson is because he hasn't changed or matured in like ten years.

What's creepy is when I see the 30s/40s year old validate EVERYTHING a young teenager says in order to further their own weird agenda.
These adults sometimes have armies of kids defending their shittiness and it's just freakin' gross.

Men/women who won't give up their childhood isn't really a thing unique to Tumblr. See: CWC and Nick Bate. Tumblr enables it, but it's probably easier to say that the internet as a whole enables it, what with the fetishism for nostalgia and the ability to completely shirk the real world in favor of your self-cultivated online persona.
