Stuff that makes you feel old

I showed my gf's little brother what roblox looked like when I played it back in 05

He yelled "WHAT IS THAT"

Back in my day you needed memory cards to save game progress
Back in my day video games weren't able to save progress. You either had to finish the entire game or just leave the console on until you were ready to continue. If you were lucky, you got some code you had to sprawl down.

Working at a library and seeing tweens check out the Warrior cats books. And realizing the series started nearly 20 years ago. It's been 15 years since I first read them and made a fansite with my friends.

But it is kinda nostalgic to see parents checking out a lot of the same books I read as a little kid back in the day. Classics are classics.

I know this will sound funny, but Gilbert Gottfried's death really got to me today. Yes, I realize he's just Gilbert Gottfried, but I liked him for who he was. His death also reminded me how slowly but surely everything I took for granted during the 80s, 90s, and 00s is either disappearing or being revisioned. Historical and social change in my lifetime is catching up to me more than I thought it would.

All the same, I love getting older! I know that might sound weird too, but I do. Even if the world around me doesn't make sense anymore, then at least I can make sure my own life does. Even if it hurts, I still want to see my life to the very end and witness how history plays out. For better or for worse.

There is only one remaining actor of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 film Seven Samurai that is still alive as of me writing this.

I was born in 1999 and had little memory of the September 11 attacks, but I'll list the things I do remember.
  • I do remember that one time I rented the Spongebob Squarepants movie at blockbuster and I also remember my nearest gas station also served as a movie rental service.
  • I do remember when memory cards were required to save a game. My 6 year old self struggled to save A Cars game without one. It's coming to a point now that children who were at school right now will have no memory of watching the first Cars at a theatre.
  • I also remember a time when the Enhanced Fujita Scale wasn't established yet so tornado intensity was measured by wind speeds rather than damage.
  • I first discovered YouTube in 2007 and it much different and much better. The first video I watched was a video of a Manitoba Tornado which at the time was recent.
  • I also remember how much easier it was to search for 2000s era Anime artwork when searching up anime images.
  • I do have knowledge on how to work a VHS and the time I had to rewind the tape of a Teletubbies movie I watched.
  • I also remember the former Bizarro coaster at SFGA was also called what it is now. Medusa.
  • I remember most of the 2000s era YouTube videos and even watched them as a child. I also remember all the times people overused 009 sound system.
  • I do remember a time before phones had touch screens and nobody was staring at their phones.
  • I remember when South Sudan didn't exist yet.
  • I also remember when Michael Jackson and Billy Mays was still alive.
  • I do remember one of my cars had a roll up windshield which used a lever instead of a button.
  • I also remember a time before VY Canis Majoris was considered the largest known star and people thought Antares was larger than Betelgeuse.
  • The computer Speakers I had since around 2007 (which was also the same speakers that Liquid Chris had in his videos), I still use them to this day.
  • The City I lived in since 2001 looked way different than what it is now. The East side of the city was almost completely nonexistent. There were only 10,000 people, now there are 100,000 people.
  • I still remember when most of the things existed in the 1990s were still relevant.
  • I still remember when 2 girls 1 cup reaction videos were fresh and when my mother got angry at me for watching 2 girls 1 cup at the age of 11.
  • I also remember when American cartoons weren't overflown by these CalArts bullshit.
  • I also remember a time where you can call out gays and say nigger and not get in trouble for it.
  • I also remember a time when Liberals were actually for freedom of speech.
  • RollerCoaster Tycoon was part of my Childhood and I got that game from a Cereal Box and I still have the disk to that day.
  • The earliest I could remember was 2003. Before Hurricane Katrina, Before the 2004 SuperBowl Incident, Before Yugoslavia no longer exists.
Mentally I feel so detached from my home knowing how many times things changed for the worst and sometimes cry a bit knowing it isn't 1999 anymore.

It even came to a point now where mentally I become overly nostalgic when I see this picture. It reminds me of the aesthetic I grew up with.
The Tornado Video I was mentioning.

I just want to go back but I wonder what I would do If I do go back and warn them about the future.
