Super Mario RPG Remake - coming soon

Did they replace it with like...any sort of reference?

I would have accepted "Who do you think you are? Captain Falcon/Little Mac? You can't just go in there with your fists flying!"

Man, I'm really torn right now. I usually get physical copies of the games I really like, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to buy it then. On the other hand, I can get a digital copy twenty minutes from now.

I mean, I could also just pirate it, but I want to be able to play it while I'm on break, and when I'm "working" alone on Saturday. I'll save that for a few years from now, when my Switch doesn't work anymore.

Edit: Fuck it. The box art looks like dogshit. It's just a white background with the characters and title on it.

Game looks good. I see people are not used to the new script, but frankly, its to be expected as they went for a more direct translation rather than making shit up on the fly (like the weird ass character names and off-key references). Because if they stuck with the corny 90s English script, then Culex's 2D/3D forms would've made little sense as he was designed to be a meta joke from the beginning. (him being a hand-drawn pixel sprite and the rest of the game being pre-rendered 3D sprites.)

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm hoping to get it for Christmas as I want to play this and get to experience a game that my mother actually played....even if I heard its a bit easier.

I think that everyone will be pleased to know that you can still find Peach's ???.

Edit: Man, it's kind of a pain re-training your muscle-memory for attacks and blocks. I hear the thunder of Mallow's first special and immediately press the button like I'm used to, but I'm a second or two too early with this new animation.

Like classic Chrono's script compared to the DS remake's, lacking something unique (like Frog's manner of speech). At least we aren't dealing with a treehouse fire emblem translation. but I had a feeling any of Intelligent Systems' adult cheekiness was gonna be removed/censored. Take the Paper Mario TTYD remaster, I wouldn't be shocked if they removed things like the Rogueport gallows and Princess Peach's shower scene.

Having reached Rose Town before deciding that it's time to go to bed, I'm pretty satisfied with the game so far. There are some changes here and there, but nothing egregious.
They changed Mac's name to Claymorton, but that makes sense, since nobody will get the Mac the Knife reference. Shysters were changed to Shymores, for some reason. Mario takes off his hat instead of giving a peace sign. Frogfucius was changed to Frog Sage. All pretty minor things, if slightly jarring.
As for "improvements" (personally, I enjoy them, buy you might feel otherwise), there are a few I've seen so far.
To help you learn how to attack with new weapons and block new enemies, you'll get a visual cue in addition to the sound when you're supposed to hit the button. Not sure about easy mode, but they stop appearing after a few times in normal mode. Getting a perfect attack on an enemy does minor damage to the other enemies. Successfully attacking or blocking fills a gauge that lets you summon Toad to give you an item. I'm sure you'll get other special moves in the future, but summoning Toad is the only one I currently have. You can use items and healing skills (maybe others that I don't have right now?) on the field, rather than having to go to the menu. You can fast travel from the map, rather than having to leave your current area and move around on the world map. Sometimes you'll run into a more powerful enemy with a yellow/orange name, and you'll get a frog coin from defeating them. While save blocks still exist, the game auto-saves when you move between areas.
There's probably other stuff that I'm forgetting, but I'm about to go to sleep. Oh, and if you miss the hidden chest in the first hallway of the castle, don't worry. There's a Toad that walks around the area that you need to jump up from. Don't remember if he's there before you defeat "Mac," though.

Ironically I think it’s easier to know Mac The Knife because it’s referenced in The Sopranos and because of Moon Man I mean McDonalds iconic character Mac Tonight.

Looked up Shyster and maybe it’s over active censorship because Shyster apparently comes from the German word meaning “Shitter.” Frogfrucious is the lamest change, certainly due to Nintendo Treehouse not wanting to piss off Chinese Americans.

Anyway I loved playing SMRPG on my first laptop, good fucking times. I have such a strong memory of that game I don’t have the urge to play this remake yet. Kinda waiting what’s going to happen with the Switch 2. My biggest fear now with Switch games is that Nintendo might make enhanced versions and I’d wait for a better version of the game. Bayonetta 3 could certainly be improved by being on better hardware. Guessing the latest Zelda would improve as well.

I would say that's almost certainly not going to happen with SMRPG. It's a miracle it even got a remake at all, sometimes the original doesn't even hit eShop (wasn't available on 3DS, iirc).

You’re right. I just want confirmation that the Super Switch is going to have backwards compatibility with the Switch.

There is a fun tinfoil theory showing that a bunch of recent Japanese Switch games, both 1st and 3rd-parties, are all sharing the same color button prompts alike to the SNES/Super Famicom (Red for A, Blue for X, etc.). Probably as a sign of how it's going to be for the "Super Switch".

And feel free to shoot rainbow beams at my face, but backwards compatibility on the successor system should be a given since it's very likely to use the same form factor.

Nintendo and backwards compatibility is inconsistent. The consoles weren't until the Wii, then the Wii U (and some later Wii models) dropped GameCube compatibility, Switch was entirely new. The handhelds played ball until 2004 with no GB/C compatibility (and I think Game Boy Color games were until recently still on the shelves at that point) with Nintendo DS, and the 3DS had DS compatibility...but then that got tossed with the Switch again.

I like the remixed themes. Some of them aren't any better than the original, but then it's hard to one-up on a masterpiece.
I don't know about the easier part, the original was dead-easy as far as difficulty goes.

In my case, this was the first game in a while where I was conflicted on whether to get the NS version, or just shrug and waste money on the original SNES cartridge on eBay.

Or, if not that, just do what I already did on the PS Vita and find an emulator for my PC and just play it on there for old times sake.
