SUV hits crowd at Lapu Lapu Day Block Party in Vancouver, BC​

An SUV has been driven into a crowd of people at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party in Vancouver, B.C., according to witnesses, causing an unknown number of casualties.

The incident happened at around 8 p.m. on Saturday when the vehicle plowed into people attending the event, which is an annual celebration honoring the Philippines’ first national hero.

Footage from the scene showed multiple victims on the ground, some of whom appeared dead or seriously injured. The exact number of casualties was not immediately clear.

A large number of emergency services are at the scene. It’s unclear whether the crash was an accident or intentional. Police did not immediately respond to a request for information.

The Lapu Lapu festival was taking place in the area of E 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street.


About 30 police cars, fire trucks, ambulances have gone by on West 41st heading east in the last 10 minutes. Anyone know what’s going on? Seems big. They’re continuing to pass every 2 minutes or so.

My brother witnessed the scene unfold. He hasn't returned home yet, but called saying he phoned the police after witnessing people get run over, he said he saw people flying over top the car. I hope he is okay

Toronto and Vancouver are on opposite sides of an enormous continent. The Toronto incident was some random gangbanger / drug pusher chimping out and getting iced by the po po, which happens pretty frequently in an urban area with twice the population of Wales. Main reason it made the news was that it happened at an airport and resulted in flights being shut down. No relation at all.

I've seen a youtube video where a mentally ill man decapitated his wife with a kitchen knife, covered himself in her blood, and told police "I'm already dead" and that the demons told him to do it. This was after he had stabbed himself in the leg multiple times.

Mental illnesses are fucked.

They got all over the news articles saying "don't worry folks, definitely totally wasn't a terrorist attack"

Wouldn't that be BETTER? Instead of being something that's likely done now, that's super rare, and you can have precautions about....it's just a random guy with a "lengthy history of police interactions" and "severe mental illness". That's almost the ENTIRE street population of vancouver (like the guy that randomly cut off some dudes hand). That should be way scarier for canadians, the fact that there's literally tens of thousands of these dudes walking around right now that the police just shrug their shoulders at because they're not allowed to do anything about. A terrorist attack would have been the best case lol

They're desperate to underplay it because there's no political grist for the globohomo mill. If this was a legitimate terrorist attack it could be pinned on the Cons and "anti-immigrant" thought (as the Libs can leverage it as a wedge issue), but since it's looking like a tard-infused lunatic have to bury it since it raises questions about the current municipal and provincial leadership. The politics and logic going into how Europe treats these attacks are the same for this one.

It's absolutely a Vince Li who may or may not be on drugs. If he is on drugs, they'd probably wait about 12 hours before questioning him to ensure he's at least of sober mind.

If it was a truly hate motivated attack, they'd be talking about it way, way, way more. The fact no one is talking about it beyond initial reports pretty much tells you it's probably a fucking crackhead. At this point I'm not sure Canada differentiates between mental health issues and drug addiction so the guy could be high as fuck disturbing everyone and it's a mental health call.

No one in politics wants to talk about a crackhead who drove into a crowd and slaughtered innocent people. Maybe I'm wrong and some super retard stole a car or something but if he was a super retard even that would make for a better news spin. Vince Li was riding the bus, like a true mental case.

"The BC Prosecution Service has now charged Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30, with eight counts of second degree murder. Lo, a Vancouver resident, has appeared in court and remains in custody. The charge assessment is ongoing and further charges are anticipated."
"Eleven people, aged 5 to 65, were killed"

His Brother was also the first murder victim of 2024, and his mother later attempted suicide, mental health has been degrading since.
"Sources told Postmedia that a family member had contacted a hospital psych ward hours before Sunday’s attack because of Lo’s deteriorating mental health.
It’s not known what action, if any, was taken. He was believed to be suffering from delusions and paranoia."
