belated, but RIP to the brilliant Terry Davis. I wish his ridiculous life could've been extended longer, and I also wish he could've gotten the help he obviously needed. maybe his schizophrenia pushed him to accomplish more, but it was also his undoing. he was like a Greek tragedy, in a way. at least he built a legacy, TempleOS, which (religion obsession aside) is an amazing work of programming. I haven't checked on ShrineOS lately, but I still believe it has tons of untapped potential as a research OS.

It's the fact he genuinely never was outright malicious, he was mentally ill and couldn't help himself. The things he said were hilarious but he was a legit talented person before his illness wrecked his life, he was never able to recover. Of all the cows Terry is the one that I look at with the most sympathy; poor fucker's brain betrayed him completely and we just got to watch the meltdown that was his life.

The compassion comes from the fact that if it wasn't for his illness, he would've just been a normal programmer just working a 9 to 5; maybe had a family and would've just been another boring human but happy. Instead he tried to make God's Temple in a computer with specifications dictated to him by his own insanity and then went on insane rambles online in both text and video form.

For me at least, of all the cows on here Terry was the one who had the least choice and the least control over how his life went. Chris-Chan even before we found out he was porking his own mom was a lazy, entitled brat spoiled by a world that refused to punish him and therefor never bothered to try and stand on his own two feet and be an adult. ADF just keeps doubling down on his retarded larps and cannot bring himself to just shut the fuck up. DSP has trapped himself in a career he hates and has turned his life into an unending negative feedback loop of his own design. Ethan Ralph is a thin skinned man baby whose ego blinds him as he stumbles forward desperate to prove himself to a father and world at large that never cared. Yaniv is a monstrous sexpest given powers they never should have and has now ruined their body with their fetish driven choices. Spoony found success he never should have and it destroyed him completely, leaving behind a miserable withered worm of a man who is too egotistical to kill himself but too pathetic to even drag himself outside to get his mail. The list goes on, but of all the cows, Terry was the one who got shafted in such a way he could never truly help himself.

When you believe in the perfectibility of man through technology and social science, not taking one's meds and clinging to religion instead is unforgivable. Fortunately most commenters didn't appreciate taking it that far.

Honest to God, he is probably the one LolCow on this site that I legit feel sorry for.

When Twitter nuts complain about "Mental Illness" or whatever, I point to Terry Davis as an example of "No no motherfucker. THAT is Mental Illness". Its really sad.

Also, Terry also made me laugh harder than any LolCow too. All unintentionally of course and alot of the random and offensive shit he says is a result of his illness, but it was too extreme not to laugh at as well. Dude was unintentionally a meme factory.

I wonder if he had already decided to end it at that point, and if he had already made peace with it?
His final vid kinda gave me the impression that he was now aware of just how far he had fallen, and that he wasn't proud of it.

I loved his streams. I wish he had lived in my country. I would have taken him in.

I remember making a RNG program to talk to the beyond back in the day too. I'm no Terry when it comes to coding, but that program felt like more than the sum of its parts.
