You're conflating two different concepts. A computer game is always going to revolve around player agency, obviously. I was talking about the significance of the player character's involvement on the grand scale of an entire setting. There are plenty of games where the player character plays a much smaller role or has little to no impact on the setting at large.
that only seems to happen in paper&pen type of games where the base setting is not affected by the actions of the players, in eletronic games the worlds are pretty much stactic unless the writing team wasn't retarded but everything only plays if you play, hence me saying about semantics where is the base of this gay spergout because toddthesda games are more on the nose with it, there are other games where you play as a character and it causes less gayness in this matter like gothic series, yes i want people to watch or play gothic 3.

I don't see how games being static has anything to do with what I'm talking about. I'll give you Bully as an example of what I meant. Low stakes story, which impacts only the small cast of characters that are a part of it. Being a Gothic enjoyer is a sign of patrician taste but 3 is kinda eh compared to 1 and 2.
Looks like a good start. I'm interested in how OpenMW works, from my perspective it's all magic, but it makes sense if it's a fanmade separate engine. Very interesting technical progress too, more interesting than what is being done with Fallout 4, for instance. Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do.
Yeah I don't think TES is flawed for embracing romantic irony. It's just that having a broad and sparkly open world isn't a unique selling point for a giddy game nowadays like back when morrowind was big, when a lot of RPGs were often more "hallway simulator" types like mass effect, final fantasy, pokemon etc and very few franchises carried on the more open over world from older generations

I'm not arguing if any of them are RPGs or not, I'm saying that at least since Morrowind character building has not been the focus as a design feature. If a game doesn't reward players at all for specialisation because the progression system is retarded (Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim all are, but Morrowind's is the most ass-backwards) and I can easily clear all combat encounters with my ape brain once I'm level 20, then the character building isn't well-designed no matter how deep. Just like how if something as fundamental as the player's race has no impact on the story, you can't really argue the story is designed around character building either.
Becuase they colonized the video game industry and progress only goes one way. Forcing shit to be undone is against their fundamental worldview.
