The Final Fantasy Thread

Finally beat the game today. 2 points I want to make:

1. This game has, without hyperbole, the best soundtrack I've ever heard in a video game. Every track is an absolute banger and there are a ton of them. The Temple has at least 3 battle tracks alone and they're all great.

2. The ending absolutely destroyed all my love for the game. Everything leading up to the ending was damn good, and the Kingdom Hearts shit dam completely busted. I was suspicious with how solid the story stayed until then, where it threw it all in a blender.

I just want Aerith to be happy. I hope at least one of her is alive. I get the plot relevant death stuff. It just feels bittersweet. All her life she was ostracized and she finally meets Cloud and gang and lives her best life and then bam she's gone.

Currently in chapter 9. They mentioned the tonberry. From what I recall people say its the hardest boss in game? You have to steal from it during battle.

My fav team is Cloud/Tifa/Yuffie. I'm kinda pissed because Aerith was my date in gold saucer but I'm finding out Tifa can also join if it had high enough affection.

I still am shit at Queens Blade so I really haven't been playing it. Shit is overwhelming to me. But I know one of the side quests involving it helps Tifa. Shit.

Of course, I've heard that early Dungeons and Dragons ripped off Lovecraft wholesale at one point and got sent a C&D to change a bunch of books and stuff so I guess what goes around comes around.
Actually, it was the Tolkien Estate, which is why Halflings aren't called Hobbits. But they did massively rip off Lovecraft, outright including Outer Gods in name only like Cthulhu knockoff Illithids in Monster Manuals, which they could get away with because his works are in the public domain, and Michael Moorcock (the whole Law vs. Chaos dichotomy came from him, and D&D's famous recurring artifact, Blackrazor, is a direct ripoff of Stormbringer). Japanese fantasy fiction was commonly inspired by and ripped off the same sources, when it wasn't ripping off D&D itself (imagine that: the ripoff artists getting ripped off).

Are you confused about the ending? I got an explanation on my last post and would like to talk about it

Decided to give FF a shot and played IV as my first and did not enjoy it. Just felt like I was being railroaded through the average story with no party customization at all. Any chance I'll enjoy V or VI?

6 was one of the first to ever do something like say mass effect and have party members that have there own dialogue and quests. It's widely regarded as one of the best.

Old 7 looks like Legos but Im quite fond of it and the backgrounds. I enjoy the remakes greatly

8 looks cool but I hate the magic system

12 is a lot more low stakes and political then most but it has cool background lore to 14 and the other Ivalice games

13 has a fun trilogy

14 is the best MMO out there.

15 is meh

16 is eh

Any opinion on 5?

The Tonberry King took me a couple tries, it’s an annoying fight because most of its attacks will immediately put you in red if they don’t outright KO you. The trick is to keep your distance and constantly swap between your party members while attacking so that its attention is never on one of them for too long. Tanking is not what you want here. I also learned the hard way that you’re supposed to prioritize stealing the crown (which you can only do once it’s pressured) instead of killing it, otherwise the crown is all beaten up afterwards.

I felt this way at first too but now I actually kind of enjoy Queen’s Blood. It’s nothing compared to the math bullshit that was Sphere Break in X-2. Have you bought stronger cards? Sometimes it’s just a matter of swapping out your deck.

15 was a massive disappointment. 16 just kind of exists.
I feel like 15 may be the most mediocre game ever made, mostly just kind of there with some good stuff (main 4 characters are likeable and have good chemistry) and some bafflingly bad decisions (besides warp-to-win gameplay, who decided making it so easy to have 99 potions at all times was okay?). The behind-the-scenes for the game is 50x more interesting with all the delays and gutting.

On the flip side, FF Tactics War of the Lions has to be one of the best they made. I recently dusted off my PSP and played a little. It's very fun gameplay.

FF3 and FF5 were huge in Japan but Square considered them too complex and difficult for dumb amerikajin. Meanwhile they're over there playing Wizardry somehow unaware that we do have RPG autists in the states.
It was probably all that dumb faggot Howard Phillips' fault. You know, the guy who play-tested SMB2, sucked at it, and told Nintendo that if it was too hard for him, it was too hard for all of America, so we got a repackaged Doki Doki Panic instead.

Wouldn't be surprised if he sucked just as hard at Final Fantasy.

Its basically a well executed Have your cake and eat it moment.
Absolutely not.

This has the consequence of making Cloud seem even more insane then usual to everyone that witnessed her death. They just saw her die and he's all peppy and nonchalant because he's seeing and talking to a live version of her in another verse. He's synced with multiple realties and seeing shit in the environment no one else can see.
You're overthinking this. He sees the things she sees because of the white/black materia, like the cracked sky (see Aerith's changed ending diologue in Remake, which went from an adapted translation, to a literal translation, to a quite literal "no really, the sky is all kinds of fucked up. I don't like it."
He's still going through massive cope just like in the OG, with the only differences being marginal, like Tifa being even more emo and downright autistic at times with how she refuses to tell Cloud he's either not Cloud or lying about everything he recalls.

Not really interested. The ending was convoluted just for the sake of making it convoluted. The end scene in the Bronco makes it pretty clear that they're going to do the same thing as this game. Keep the main story pretty on point then completely shit all over it in the final act.

Nothing about the whisper bullshit from Remake made Rebirth better. Everything that made Rebirth great already had it's foundation set in the original.

I plan on playing Re-Dilate or whatever the last one will be called but there is no way they'll make any of their bullshit worth it. I thought I was going to be wrong about Rebirth but they just had to prove me right in the end.

No it made sense to me. it's all about keeping hope alive that
Aerith will make it. the way things are she's basically a temporal version of Schrödinger's Cat until either Sephiorth succeeds in restoring an altered version of the timeline he broke into pieces or he's defeated.
.

Clouds mental state at the end is also completely different
without perceiving aerith as dead he's sort of irrationally hypersane and happy. I imagine most of the first half's drama is going to come from everyone seeing him as batshit crazy for burying and talking to her with a smile on his face

Im pretty sure the third one is going to go off the rails for real. They will keep the most iconic moments in the series sure. but there's going to be a lot more toy's in the toybox as far as deepground and Genesis go. Wutai in particular has no chance of being like the original considering they are back at war footing and looking to invade shinra.
In addition Cloud cant just turn his multiverse vision off so im wondering if that and the black Materia will affect gameplay. Imagine the party's reactions to cloud talking to people and seeing things that dont exist for them.

The wispher shit makes a LOT more sense if they are actually
The souls of the Cetra. The Gi seem to be implying it and they are wearing hoods and robes in the Temple holograms. I cant think of anything else they would be narrative wise. They were obsessed with preserving history for unknown reasons until the verse was broken into chunks and now half of them follow sephiroth and half of them follow aerith.

Honestly the only thing im worried about is Cid. They did a good job setting him up in this, but im worried they'll cop out of showing his relationship troubles properly.

If it helps Aerith’s date is the blatantly canon one.
You know I remember bitching here about Tifa being the better narrative choice, but I thought they did a really classy job with Aerith and won me over.

@Michael Wade can't reply for some reason.

I'm not trying to be mean when I say this, but if that is the actual intent of the changes, then that is absolutely retarded.

That would completely ruin the sacrifice. Fuck that happy ending shit.
This also makes Aerith seem like an asshole if she's still alive but is just going to hang around and let the rest of the party mourn.
Does nothing to alter the story. By this point everyone knows he's batshit insane, so adding some new psychosis does nothing for the narrative. Honestly, I'm going to find it annoying if they just turn Aerith into some Arkham Knight Joker situation where she's just hanging around and giving emotionless commentary.
The idea that the planet is some temporal focal point is the single worst story change I've seen. I don't understand what a gay ass multiverse does for the story. If anything, it makes the Gi and Jenova almost sympathetic since it makes it seem like the planet is just fucking them over since it controls the literal universe. I get that this is a part 2 of 3 but we need some fucking payoff to keep people interested. I'm only still around because of the stuff that's actually in the game.

And I'm going to just say it here that Zack's inclusion has been completely worthless. His inclusion to the story has been just fan service and nothing else. If they're going to go full autist and use all the other entries in the series then at least make it for a good reason.

Again, I still maintain my stance that everything relating to the whispers and time and space is gay and retarded. The few story changes relating to the real story (The Keystone section as an example) were fantastic. If you ask anyone what their favorite part of this game was, I promise you it will not be related to anything regarding the whispers or multiverse nonsense. It honestly feels like there's one retard in the writing room that has to have his OC idea in the game and has friends higher up that protects him from being fired.
