The Final Fantasy Thread

They're most definitely aiming towards multiple timelines that the player can choose. That's not a negative.
Except they are going to have the "cannon" one be "Happily ever after see Aeris and Zack both survive now, good job team good guys! We even beat the guys from Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus including Omega Weapon."

I bet they will even explain Jenova's origins in way that completely takes away any intimidation that she had in the first place.

The one thing I think they're going to do is turn Sephiroth into a total bro just like Gladio from 15.

There will be multiple sephiroths and one of them is going to join your party and go road tripping with everything. Because remember Sepiroth could join your party in 7.

Square doesn't keep canon. Look how they tossed out the first two final fantasy 13 games so they could give Lightning Returns a chance to breathe. Look what they also did with 15's DLC and multiple endings.

I dunno. I guess they weren't going to go ahead with Neo Midgar until recently? Remake basically just has Reno and Rude keeping her at home, and it almost feels like a game she plays where they can't MAKE her stay at home because she finds ways to get away (this time that way being Cloud).
This is the kind of strange thing a remake would be good at addressing instead of time travel bullshit.

My impression in the original was that Aerith wasn't a high priority at the time, and since Tseng obviously has a thing for her, he gave her some leeway and nobody up the ladder complained. When they crashed Sector 7, the president renewed the plans to obtain the Promised Land, so Aerith became a priority again and they kidnapped her. In FF7R, the implication seems to be more that they played nice because from their perspective, the best way to get the information is to win her over ("she has to come willingly"), but when they destroyed Sector 7 obtaining the knowledge became more urgent so they switched to more drastic measures. Basically the same idea, just differently flavoured.

I beat FF7R tonight. I never played the original, just never got around to it growing up and I didn't see the point when FF7R was announced. I mean it's a remake, so clearly I don't have to play the original, right? Even with it being a hidden sequel, I still enjoyed it. I thought the Whispers were a neat idea. But there's one problem

Why is Destiny being challenged? Why isn't this game just playing out like the first one? There has to be an outside force acting to disrupt the natural flow of destiny. So who is it? Is it Sephiroth?

Also speaking of Sephiroth, maybe it's because I didn't play the original. But I find it super funny that Sephiroth is this super scary Cloud PTSD demon, that no ones heard from in five years. Then when he shows up, literally everyone immediately is just "IT'S SEPHIROTH. FUCKING KICK HIS ASS"

like right after Sephiroth shows up in Hojo's lab and fucks the bridge. No one even once just goes "hey so it's kinda fucked up sephiroth just showed up right?" like no one mentions it.

Also I understand Cloud wanting to attack him. But does Tifa know him from her cowgirl days? Barret hasn't met him as far as I know and he was super willing to attack Sephiroth too, along with Red 13.

overall I did like it. I should probably play the original, but I'm fat and lazy. Final boss fight was sick tho.

Tifa has a reason because during the Nibelheim incident, Sephiroth killed her father, almost killed her and burned down their entire village. That would have warranted a stronger reaction, I agree. Barret most likely knows that Sephiroth is a semi-legendary ShinRa war hero, so that's enough reason for him to want to kill him. And Red XIII has already been turned into a sock puppet for the writers by Aerith at this point, so who knows what he's thinking. But yeah, they should have talked about it more.

Yeah I know Tifa has -some- reason. Because Sephiroth's sword is there during Tifa's cowgirl flash backs. But still odd she never brings it up at all. Like I enjoy the fact this game is a sequel as opposed to a straight Remake, I feel like a sequel to something beloved is pretty much always a better/more interesting idea than a straight remake.

but it really felt like I'm supposed to know Sephiroth is the big villain because he's the big villain and neither the story nor the characters care to elaborate more on that.

My impression is mostly based on how Reno will humor her with stepping on the flowers, and that Rude tells her to stay at home more. Makes it hard to imagine this is a real kidnapping and that they never thought to take a child hostage if they really wanted her.

Makes sense to me.

You 100% are just supposed to know these characters. No explanation for why Sephiroth is the big villain combined with all his screen time. A flashback about Tifa long before you meet her. All the flash-forwards to Aeris dying (and I guess the scene in the Sleeping Forest).

True, there certainly are more important things to address all around...but the cat-and-mouse game Aeris has with the Turks was kind of amusing given her story. That and in my opinion, it pretty much allowed them an excuse to add two extra boss fights.

Why is Destiny being challenged? Why isn't this game just playing out like the first one? There has to be an outside force acting to disrupt the natural flow of destiny. So who is it? Is it Sephiroth?

That's the real rub isn't it? We have to presume Sephiroth (or possibly even Aeris for all I know) is in control of things since apparently "Fate/Destiny" was such pushover which was just plain stupid. I don't even understand why they didn't just end the game then and there. You already had your ridiculous over-the-top end-game boss fight. Why throw in Sephiroth as well?

It also doesn't help that there was no real reason why the characters should have wanted to suddenly challenge destiny/fate, and yes I would even say that about this Aeris who seems to either know she'll die or that other versions of her will die. Then again, I'm not even convinced they "beat destiny/fate" anyway just like we know they didn't beat Sephiroth, so what's the point?

Does anyone have like a comprehensive guide for builds?

I need to beat the hard mode VR training matches and then eventually take on hard mode in it's entirety.

You molest one girl and you're a bad octopus forever?

Anyway, the more I think about it, there's a real chance Aeris lives. Foreshadowing her death constantly feels like a commentary on how players can't pretend not to know she dies. And it seems likely to be paid off by her living or being revived. But there's a bigger chance she still dies, either the same exact way or a different way to troll the audience.
When it comes time to kill Aeris, the game switches to 144p and plays the PS1 death movie.

I just can't wait for afterwards when 1080p Sephiroth just sort of stands there in the background with his hands in the air after gloating.

And then in the spirit of the remake, he immediately gets arrested by the police and the game ends.

I would absolutely love to see the Turks get air-dropped in, handcuff Sephiroth, try to take him to prison for murdering the woman they're looking after and then he turns into Jenova LIFE.

community breathlessly over-interprets it as brilliant.

I saw some videos about how to do the 3 on 1 fights with each character. The 3-C soldiers. Try those
