(they probably think they know Hermione's character better than the author does.)
They get pissed because Hermione's middle name changed because Rowling did not want to give her the same last name as Umbridge and she had forgotten she had, and instead of changing Umbridge's she changed Hermione's.

Really.

I agree, but there are some sources that have said that Tara was serious. There are also some other fanfics that have ridiculous names and bad spelling, but who knows? Also remember that Tara had some help from Raven in the beginning chapters.
Yeah but things like the random reference to Tom Bombadil make me kinda suspicious. Either way, I totally ship Tara and Tyce.

They also sight the fact that she is described as having thick, bushy hair, which white people totally can't have and isn't racial stereotyping!

(They also forget the fact that J.K. Rowling did have a hand in the choosing the cast of the movies. Then again, knowing the people who say these sort of things, they probably think they know Hermione's character better than the author does.)

Again back in my day (2002), there were people speculating "what if Hermione is biracial?" based on the bushy brown hair, brown eyes, and lack of much other solid description. At the time, we thought this was pretty cool. Then at some point--probably when the film was cast--Rowling confirmed that Hermione was white and we all said "aw, shucks" and moved on.

I still think this would have been pretty cool and I'm sorry it didn't pan out. But Rowling's book, Rowling's rules.

I am so glad we have a thread on these guys, since I know a few Potter spergs in real life.

To tell the truth I never noticed them until Twilight became mainstream- to which then watching both Twitards and Potterheads fighting was probably the most spectacular thing I've ever witnessed online

I worked at a movie theater and was on shift for at least one Harry Potter midnight premiere and the premiere of the first Twilight movie.

The Twilight crowd was odd to me because none of those people were like nerds or anything: it was a lot of 14 year old girls and 40 year old moms in homemade t-shirts. There were very few people that were in between.

But I guess you can't really dress like any of the characters in the books, so... IDK

I remember there being a huge fandom for the DracoXHermoine pairing. Considering they both hated each others' guts in the books, and Draco hoping Hermoine would get killed in the second movie, it made no sense and was really annoying (and HP is mostly fantasy/adventure, not romance).

I think the reason why the HP fandom peaked after the books had to do with the musical. I haven't seen it, but I heard that the musical plays with the fandom ideas (DracoxHermoine etc.). I remember my friends making a big deal out of the musical.

Isn't that the story that takes like 90 chapters to not even finish the first year and some of its arguments are like 'wrong for wrong's sake'?

I won't say TVT reviews are all accurate, but I wonder how many of the flaws some of them see are valid. Like this bit:

"As a story, it flips between pretty good and implausible. Good when the wizarding world is examined with a logical eye of common sense. Implausible when eleven-year-olds casually talk about wanting to rape someone they don't like and Hamiltonians."

If the latter point really is in there, in any manner, you can't say it's not bad. Not HORRIBLE, perhaps, but not bad.

I don't really find it to be that way.

One of the major points of the fic is to realistically put into perspective what it would be like to an astute scientific observer. It's as long as it is, because the author thought that condensing an entire year's worth of material into the 40 chapters of the original was ludicrous (which I somewhat agree with).

As for rape discussion, you have to remember that kids are not innocent in this universe, because of Voldemort. So, yeah, crimes like rape and murder would be a lot more accessible to younger wizards, because they have to know of the evil that came before them.

Because the author IS a scientist, you can get really lost in the references and logic, which is kind of the point.

So, yeah. I enjoy it, because that's my kind of thing. It gets pretty convoluted, and it isn't as great as the source material. But, as a fan work, I enjoy it more than any other.

Does anyone else remember the fic in which Lucius tortured Draco to death and then skullfucked him?

That's a terrible way to express a 'kids aren't innocent' argument, honestly.

Considering what lies within that link, I would like some brain bleach please. Considering that this fandom was bronies before bronies existed, one can only ask outside of My Immortal in terms of fan-fics, what was the biggest gem of crap within these fics, considering how the fanbase was.

Also just to share in regards to Harry Potter and its fandom, I remember seeing a countdown of people freaking out. One of them involved a guy who IRL trolled fans by saying that in one of the books, Hermoine dies. It elicited all sorts of reactions from people waiting to get their copy (said guy later did it to a room-mate who was reading the book. Needless to say, one can assume what happens from there).

Harry Potter meets the Lord?

I never read a Harry Potter book until the final movie came out, but even before that I heard about all the craziness and bad fanfic of the Potter fandom that is how infamous that was. And keep in mind I was active in the Avatar : The Last Airbender fandom which was insane between 2005-2008 due to shipping.

But I feel bad for sane Harry Potter fans because it seems that the SJWs have taken over that fandom. I have seen several tumblrs with pics of alternate racial Harry Potter and cultures. Seriously, they are white. If you don't like it write your own shit.

I was part of this fandom at its peak. What can I say, babby's first fantasy setting.
I did get on a lot of people's bad side for thinking all the crazy fanfic and "wut if hairy peter wuz annimay" fanart was crap and saying it in their faces.
I still like the early HP games, though. They're pretty cool for licensed tie-in cashgrabs.
I remember having this idea for a HP RPG with choices and shit set in the US or in Egypt (I get that Rowling's british but holy shit, I hate that in her books the UK is the center of the world and nothing important ever happens anywhere else) and people shitting all over it because of the above-mentioned reasons.

The few I met IRL were fucking spergs. I was classmates with this one guy during that time and we got paired up for a paper, so I went to his house and then he has a fucking collage of anime HP shipping pics as his computer wallpaper. He didn't even try to hide it, like he was proud of it.
