The HBO Max/Discovery Griefing Thread - look how they massacred my boys

I like that a week is a franchise lol.
you think thats funny, try naming another franchse from the 80s as well beloved as shark week. did you know Phillip De Franco hosted shark week?

thats the worst part, when you really look at the image, the discovery guy clearly knows what the fuck he's doing, all the discovery crap hasn't turned to dogshit in the last decade, meanwhile everything WB has is nauseating. you aren't going to see someone try to subvert expectations on DDD

Consolidation of corporations with entertainment media is the main reason why consumerism is at an all time, while the same consumers get shafted when their favorite TV shows and movies get removed from streaming services.

So I'm wondering what will happen with AT&T customers who have their Elite plan. It includes free HBO Max, so I'll be interested to see what they say about it.

Also as much as a lot of people aren't into TLOU show, I hope it makes it through. I know they've already wrapped season 1, so hopefully it'll still air at some point.

This - I get HBO Max thru my cable provider.

Frankly I couldn't give less of a shit of HBO Max's exclusive shows, I'm more concerned about being able to watch movies and shows from their back catalog.

In fact, that's the dirty little secret about streaming that no one seems to want to acknowledge - people don't sign up for streaming services to see new, exclusive shows and movies. They do it to see old shows and films that they can watch any time at their convenience without channel surfing or putting in a DVD.

Agreed. There's very few original shows I care about, but I've enjoyed rewatching movies and shows from my childhood.

Come on, cancelation of PPG live action. Let’s go, cancellation of PPG live action.

They delayed it, but have constantly claimed it’s not canceled. I don’t know who keeps pushing it to be made.
They should just come out and cancel it already. Especially since Criag McCraken wants to do a revival of the old show with most of the orginal cast.

I mean I doubt any old fans were going to watch the dumpster fire anyways. But why would anyone want to watch a shitty live action Powerpuff girls show that does noting but piss on the old show. When fans can watch the orginal series revival with the orginal creator involved? They really are retarded and up their own asses if they still go through with it.

That earning call was a mess. No wonder they lost 17% of their share worth when they didn't give any hard details.

1. Will this new service have a new name, if it does that may have wasted all the marketing money to increase the awareness of the HBO Max name over the past few years.

2. Dropped hints that the price could go up, Netflix lost lot of subs when it did that and pretty clear most people who want HBO Max don't want to pay more reality TV shows.

3. Didn't outline why killing off Batgirl and Scoob 2 was a good move financially. While the move to make future HBO Max movies cheaper is a smart move but killing off stuff they already made makes little sense. They get a tax write-off of lets say $20 million for Batgirl, then they still lost $70 million anyway, so really not sure how Batgirl isn't worth $20 million to put on HBO Max at that point, surely got to be worth more than if it came to HBO Max.

4. Talks about how they want the best talent but no details of the top talent they already have working for them or how they plan to attract new talent. Nor awareness even if Batgirl is a awful turd that killing that could turn off people from working with WB from now on if they have the chance to work with a rival studio.

5. Making content for rivals, while makes sense to do so on the TV front as long as they get the streaming right but in making fresh content for rivals does show a lack of faith in their own streaming service or least the content they are making.

6. Says they will invest more money into HBO Max but no details in how much or for what. Same deal with normal HBO.

7. Outside the ad tier plans, no plans to expand markets

8. Killing of animation both streaming and on linear TV, no reason given why this makes sense business wise and could mean them losing market share to Disney and Nickelodeon.

9. Weak forecasts such as 130 million subs by end of 2025. Also cut predicted profits.

10. Had days of bad press in the run up and really did little to confirm or kill those fears this continuing the bad publicity.

11. The combined service is talking longer than many people expected with the full roll out going into 2024.

Said they are continuing the deal with AT&T

I'm wondering if there is some of that (in)famous Hollywood accounting going on with Batgirl and any other movies they just outright cancel. Some factor they aren't talking about because it'd draw too much attention to something they'd rather not disclose. IDK, it's really, really weird to completely cancel a movie this expensive without even trying to recoup the investment.

All the usual suspects on Youtube (Midnight's Edge, Nerdrotic, Overlord DVD, etc.) are beating the "SJWs are done" drum yet again and trying to frame Zaslzv as some kind of anti-SJW hero. It seems like the guy is actually just trying to keep the ship afloat in the midst of a massive shitstorm. None of the explanations I've heard in any of the fandumb videos have made any sense and all come across as delusional speculation.

Mainly because Discovery already went to shit in the late 2000's and early 2010's when it shifted to all reality shows like History Channel and TLC did.

But while their channels went to shit, they sadly remained profitable thanks to the reality TV switchover.
