The HBO Max/Discovery Griefing Thread - look how they massacred my boys

I'm wondering if there is some of that (in)famous Hollywood accounting going on with Batgirl and any other movies they just outright cancel. Some factor they aren't talking about because it'd draw too much attention to something they'd rather not disclose. IDK, it's really, really weird to completely cancel a movie this expensive without even trying to recoup the investment.

All the usual suspects on Youtube (Midnight's Edge, Nerdrotic, Overlord DVD, etc.) are beating the "SJWs are done" drum yet again and trying to frame Zaslzv as some kind of anti-SJW hero. It seems like the guy is actually just trying to keep the ship afloat in the midst of a massive shitstorm. None of the explanations I've heard in any of the fandumb videos have made any sense and all come across as delusional speculation.
Zaslzv only cares about what he thinks is profitable, Mean under him shows like My 600-lb Life, Dragnificent!, I Am Jazz and many more shows those Youtuber would call woke were made.

So if they're killing animation, where does that leave CN?
They aren't fully killing it just planing to spend less on animation

So how will that affect the direct to dvd DC animated movies?
No one knows yet, same with adult swim stuff. They had really poor messaging with everything with a real lack of details in every area.

Only thing we know Warner Animation Group seems to be safe, so that won't be closing. But wouldn't be shocked to see staff and leadership changes after Super Pets flopped and the only real hits they had being the Lego Movie and Lego Batman movie.

Insider here, I’m sick of it all. In roughly 6 months, me and most of the rest of the staff is going to be unemployed so I have no desire to keep secrets.
I’m sure you all know Joe, Debras and a bunch of other shit has been cancelled. Well guess what? It’s ALL cancelled. Tuca and Bertie, Birdgirl, Eric Andre, Robot Chicken, it’s all done. Discovery canned everything. The only courtesy given was any series in progress could finish its current season. That’s why you saw stuff like 3BD pushed hard then canned. The one outlier is Rick and Morty because they have so many episodes on their contract. But it’s not an issue since they have deals with other services that may end up with the show in the event Discovery cans it when the contract finishes.

The plans for AS are pretty bleak. It’s going to pretty much just be fox reruns 7 days a week on autopilot. As it is now, the network is already mostly on autopilot mode.

Toonami is going to stick around until Ninja Kamui airs next summer. It’s not going to get any new content though besides Attack on Titan next year since we already have that contract. We bought 150 episodes of One Piece in January, so that’s staying till we get through those. Naruto on the other hand, we had been buying in batches of 60 every year. We won’t be able to again, which means Naruto will abruptly end next year. We had this years 60 + about 40 backlog episodes from prior years purchases. I don’t know exactly what episode it’s going to end on but it won’t be the last one.
Yashahime was a deal we started back in February, we actually intended for it to air way back in March but Viz was being obtuse about it which is why we are just starting it now. In a way it’s a blessing, it makes it look like the block got something, but don’t be fooled, Discovery put an end to us buying shows almost immediately and the odds of them letting it happen again are basically zero.

Now I’m going back to my job hunt.

If true...

You know, there's cost cutting, and then there's unnecessary amputation. Toonami and Adult Swim are two of the oldest and most well-established programming blocs Warner Media has, both with a large established audiences.

Cutting Toonami in particular is a pretty dumb move if you're going for cost cutting, since all they have to do is buy the license to air programming rather than produce it themselves.

It does, but honestly, whether due to their block being cut down or what because streaming took the lead, Toonami's line-up has been so shit the last few years or so. They mainly get FUNimation and Viz anime with very few exceptions (Sentai Filmworks gets fucked over too much, Parasyte was like the only license of theirs they got to air on Toonami when there's like so many more stuff Sentai has they could use), and they don't bother going after older anime that's not Cowboy Bebop anymore.

It just sucks in general, but they've been on life-support this entire time and it hurts to see. It was gonna happen one way or another.

Mainly because Discovery already went to shit in the late 2000's and early 2010's when it shifted to all reality shows like History Channel and TLC did.

But while their channels went to shit, they sadly remained profitable thanks to the reality TV switchover.

TLC was good. It used to be full of DIY shows for crafts and home improvements. They literally showed you how to weave a straw mat in one of the shows I saw.

Reality wins the race. I like watching deathfats fail diets as much as the next person. But when so many channels go reality it all looks the same. 90 Day Fiance is boring this season. My 600lb Life better be a glorious trainwreck to make up for it.

Far as I can tell, everything that has a contract with Toonami will go through. Think they all have until this time next year or so.

you know, i'd worry as uzumaki keeps getting delays. the other two originials (three?) coild be cancelled and no one would be sad.

I expect cut backs put really doubt that. Rick and Morty won't get killed not because of the contract but because it is a huge hit and merch sales alone likely more than cover the cost of the show's cost.

Adult animation is a growing area, would be idiotic to outright kill it off. But Adult Swim does need a new change of management because picking up Tuca & Bertie after Netflix killed it was a dumb move. Outside Primal and Smiling Friends they really haven't been able to make any shows of note in a long while.

I don't disagree to a certain extent, but, Toonami was already cancelled once before in 2009 because of low ratings. That is way before streaming was really a threat to normal television. But by 2009 most teens that grew up watching Toonami (speaking from experience) had moved onto fansubs since they were so easy to obtain by then thanks to the internet. You had a wider selection of shows and could watch stuff months before it ever came to television.

Toonami only came back out of nostalgic desperation. The fact it's made it this far in its reboot form would be impressive if not for the fact that it probably hasn't been cancelled simply because all these corporations have no vision and have essentially spent the last decade idle just tossing their money into a trash fire. But I think it's clear the clock is ticking on all that, the money taps are running dry.

Toonami was responsible for the Moribito schedule controversy right?

Now that a Season 4 of Close Enough isn't happening, what's next for JG Quintel?
