The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Apparently Troy Baker wants people to be "open-minded" about the story of TLOU2. He may have unofficially confirmed that the leaks are true:

What the fuck does that even mean tho? how would Troy know anything about the game outside of its story? Granted its a movie game, so thats important, but he literally has no clue on the technical quality.

But that makes sense. The story is what got people riled up, not the gameplay (though I expect the gameplay to be a carbon copy of the first game), and the more technical aspects, like the graphics, are going to be tight, just because Sony is making it.

I mean, if anything, I'd say the game getting pushed back multiple times is probably what would worry most people at this point. As for the story, it ended perfect on the first so I can't even begin to actually care about this one.

I remember when people laughed at some sped on here who shared a 4chan thread a supposed "Blizzard ex-employee" made, detailing an "Overwatch 2" completely revamping and getting rid of the original all in service of adding a co-op mode, how The Burning Crusade from WoW would be rereleased in Classic depending on how well BFA did, how fucked Warcraft III: Reforged was going to be, how all of Blizzard's games were connected via The Void because plot contrivance, and how Diablo IV was ready to subvert expectations by making its endgame about how you were the evil one all along, and that Diablo was really the perfect good guy who did nothing wrong, and much, much more.

And everyone laughed in his fucking face and said that it was so completely stupid and awful, even by their standards, that there was no way Blizzard was going to head down that path and do so many things that were that bass-ackwards and r.etarded.

...Yeah, it's not really all that funny anymore.

I take 4chan video game leaks with a grain of salt for the most part, but when it comes to video games I am also aware that there’s a huge team of people working on the product that are bound by an NDA...and some of them are just underpaid, overworked, and got into the business filled with ambition for something they loved (videogames), only to have that starry-eyed passion crushed when they hear what is going on behind the scenes.

Game-testers—at least in my experience—are the most likely to expose some dirt. When I tested EA Sports titles, several of us may have casually advised a few people of some...”issues” within certain games. And I can assure you if we were watching a series we once loved crash and burn because of a dumb lezzie plot, we would have a hard time not telling people.

For some people it was to gossip, but there’s something soul-crushing about watching people turn a thing you loved into something else that they think is more acceptable, and isn’t even a shadow of its former self. And all the while, they’re oblivious to how they are the problem.

They mentioned possibly offering Sarkeesian a chance to come talk to us one day in the and wanted our opinion on the matter. I evoked my pussy-privilege andreplied, “I would rather not have my time wasted. In fact, I’d prefer having railway spikes drilled into my teeth...” and a few higher-ups were shocked at my rejection.

Exactly. Doom Eternal got 1 delay. Modern Nintendo’s made a point to not give out info until they’ve got it nearly set in stone. CD Projekt got away with it for 2077 because god knows how big a shadow The Witcher 3 casts. What has Naughty Dog even done since TLoU 1 came out to warrant multiple giant delays? Uncharted 4, which I hear no one singing the praises of? They’re not Valve. I remember far more of Half Life 2 even though I played less of it than The Last of Us. How can it stack up against other things that have been revealed and came out since its announcement? RE2 remake eats its lunch as a zombie game. Shit done in the first game’s style is so ubiquitous, particularly with Sony’s first party games, that it became a meme. Never mind the fact that any gay pandering has the potential to backfire in multiple ways that it couldn’t have in 2013.

Worst case scenario is that if they have to delay it to mid summer, they are probably just gonna have to say fuck it and delay it to make a ps5 port. Thats were shit would really hit the fan. They wouldnt have time to do anything impressive like with the first one's remaster. If they dont, who is gonna buy a ps4 game right when the ps5 is gonna launch?

If they make it crossplatform, I doubt anyone would complain much, Sony ponies being what they are. People would only complain if it skips the PS4 entirely.

Is anyone even really hyped for the game? I dont see hype anywhere. Like its really strange, it seems like its already been memory holed. Barely anyone talked about it outside of e3 conference threads, I dont even see normies talking about it.

I see a lot of Youtubers seeming to be hyped for the game, but as for the general online community...its hard to say.

Silly demon, youtubers arent human!

Of course! My Mistake. In any case, whether anyone is hyped for it or not, Sony Ponies will praise this game to high heaven anyway just to so they can have something to show off to Xbox and Nintendo fans...until the inevitable betrayal that is this game going to PC.

I've got a sibling who's a huge fan of the original, it's one of his favorite games ever. He was pissed when I told him the game was delayed indefinitely; it was one of the only games he was seriously looking forward to. I didn't have the heart to tell him about the leaks either.

Anecdotal evidence I know, but still there is at least one person I know who was looking forward to it.

I've been trying to remember why I loved the first one. The gameplay was fun IMO, but nothing groundbreaking like in the original Doom or Portal. The plot was a pretty simple reheat of disaster porn tropes and Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

It was the style and execution that made it work so well. The graphics and tone were on point, the voice acting was wonderful, the characters were written and performed with believable human depth. And there was a mature, tasteful restraint to the way the story unfolded. Especially in that last scene, which was perfectly understated and completely in sync with the way those characters in that world would interact.

By comparison, most previous vidyagame efforts at being "cinematic" are cringe even when the game is good. The original Max Payne was 2Edgy4Me like a turn of the century nu-metal band. Deus Ex was hilariously convoluted gibberish. Kojima is obviously some kind of high functioning autist with a giant robot fetish.

TLOU was simple, but not stupid. It has a rock solid emotional core that compares with Bioshock Infinite - another story that works emotionally (and despite the fantastical elements, mushrooms zombies and alternate universe evil versions of the good guy are goony af) because it has a really straightforward, but artfully delivered right hook straight in the feels.

I don't give a shit about TLOU2 because there's no way to improve on perfection, and there's something about CGI teenagers lezzing out for our... what? that makes my skin crawl. I dunno if it's meant to be tittilating, or we're merely meant to whack off to how stunning-and-brave we are for buying Lesbo Mushroom Zombie Simulator, but I get a mental image of sickly, doughy looking middle aged dorks animating this stuff with awkward boners poking through their cargo shorts, and I don't want none of that. They'll probably troon out later.

Joel was the hero and best character of TLOU, and killing him off to make you play as Ellie or some other character you probably care even less about seems like the kind of mistake Kojima made in MGS2. Normal people want to play the badass hero, not the ambiguously gay stand in or the definitely gay nosebeast who isn't even as pretty as Raiden.

It's not even the faggy stuff that's the problem here. You can tell a good story with gay characters. Bill in the original game was queerer than a circus of Joe Exotics, and a great character. Bill being gay was also completely irrelevant to the plot - you didn't feel like his inclusion in the game was due to the writers trying to demonstrate performative wokeness (then tucking and dancing in front of a mirror to Goodbye Horses). It's the difference between how a mature adult tells a story, and how a socially autistic nerd spins a tale. "Look at this" versus "look at me :smug: "

I think you've explained why the first game affected me the way it did. There were moments of such beautiful quiet maturity that it really impacted how much I loved these characters and the story even though it had been done before.

I don't think there will be any quiet maturity in this game, especially since all of this screams LOOK AT ME LOOK AT HOW WOKE I AM GIVE ME TWITTER GOOD-BOY POINTS REEEE. It feels wooden and heartless. A cheap cashgrab to continue a story that didn't need a sequel in the first place.

I see a lot of Youtubers seeming to be hyped for the game, but as for the general online community...its hard to say.

The ending of TLoU was just open-ended enough that anyone could believe a sequel could be made. The story of that game was done, but the possibility of watching them in another story did exist.

And by “another story” I don’t mean “fighting fundies by moonlight, lezzing out by daylight, always fighting for her gay rights—-Ellie is now a lesbian”... I meant a story wherein Joel and Ellie grow up and experience the growing pains of their father-daughter dichotomy more. Where we explore if he ever told her the truth about the Fireflies, and the consequences of that decision. Time skip ahead a few years to where Ellie’s an adult and Joel is getting a bit too old for this mushroom-zombie shit.

If you want to pass the torch, then do it in a way that respects the characters, their relationship, and the player’s intelligence. Give a reason for why Ellie has to carry the load now, but do it in a way that acknowledges the lessons learned by the teacher.

How does Ellie kissing girls have any impact on Joel? How did we go from watching a man have his whole world ripped away in minutes, to Westboro Baptist Church is protesting muh gay prom? It’s like... like going from The Dark Knight’s Joker to a Captain Planet villain. It’s so ridiculous and in relatable in this setting that it’s just cartoonish.
