The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Wait, are they really going to have both the TV show and the remake release within the same timeframe? So fucking redundant...
I honestly didn't think of that. I know the show is coming out sometime in 2023, but I've already forgotten about the remake release. I agree though, it is redundant.

Well you see the Halo TV series and Uncharted films came out resulting in a massive influx of new sales and fans for those franchises.

Nah just kidding, they didn't even register as a blip on the sales charts
well, they were shit (not sure about the uncharted movie, but I just assume it's too). now do the same for walking dead or capeshit. or LOTR and GOT.

unless of course you think normies aren't dumb consoomers automatically buying everything of BRAND that everybody is talking about (besides, they're unlikely buying shit of something they never heard about), and hey there's a sequel on playstation too...!

In the case of the Uncharted movie that happened. It was a commercial success

Uncharted grossed over $400 million worldwide this weekend, according to Forbes. They say the $120 million-budget movie is the fourth most successful video game adaptation.

Uncharted was always intended to be the first one out of the gate. But you're also forgetting that Witcher's TV show did bring the game back up the sale's charts and the recent Sonic movie did similar with Sonic's games. It's why Sega could get away with charging maximum price for the Origins collection.

No, that's by design.

Hey, you like this HBO show and want to experience the "original" game? Well, we just remastered the remaster so now it looks better than ever for your PS5! That'll be full price $70 please!

That's the real objective here, not selling it to people who already have the game twice over or people who want an actual full package experience, it's people who have no knowledge of the series discovering it and now the 'latest and greatest' version is available.

It worked for Transformers.

The key being "worked" there. Past Tense.

The new movie is looking like a complete and utter disaster, frankly, if what I'm hearing is true across the board.
The Bay films increased the series exposure tenfold. Yes they were bad movies, but they were good for increasing brand awareness and causing people to buy shit. It's why Generations is still going and they're still doing TV series.

Having TV shows based on games with the sole intention of selling the physical product works the same way it did for toys, that's why you had stuff like Super mario Super Show and Sonic in the 80's and 90's. It's a long proven concept.

To that end that is true. But a lot of it also relies on the property being good, since we all know the pictures of shelfwarming Rose Ticos and Admiral Whatshername from TLJ.

TLOU "Part One" is lucky that it's just shelling one item instead of an entire product line (not counting the periphery licensed merch, of course).

I mean it checks all the boxes and it's going to be on HBO which has been looking for it's next wide spread hit since GOT ended.

It's chances at success are not terrible.

Uncharted was a success but that doesn't mean it wasn't a soulless piece of shit with two woefully miscast actors. Avatar, Endgame, and The Force Awakens were also shitty box office successes.

Ew Troy and Ashley in the live action? Troy is a hack. Why.

I find it hilarious that people have been demanding multiplayer in TLOU2 since the game came out, and instead not only did they just remake the first game again to try and sell to people who watch the show, they’re gonna charge you a full cost of a retail game to get the multiplayer because now that’s gonna be its own thing. In over a year.

The uncharted film made money as a film, it didnt do anything for the sales of the game, which was your argument.

The Witcher TV show didnt really do anything for the sales, game journos are just drooling retards who didn't realize the sales were up because a switch version released at the same time. The actual "rise" for existing versions was 63% of weekly sales for one week, basically statistical noise, amounting to a few hundred copies

Anime AND furry icon AND huge wall of text? :stress:

Paaaaaassssss....:blart:
No way this doesn't get rewritten at least at the end to introduce Abby to retcon her existence in an attempt to legitimize her and just straight up make the ending total justification for her side of the story instead of, y'know, the fact the Fireflies were going to kill a girl without any way of knowing if they could produce a cure, let alone the fact even if they had a cure it was all fucking pointless since they couldn't mass produce it.

Dont get me started on how Im sure the Fireflies wouldnt exactly share the cure with their enemies and prefer to keep it as a way to get the population to take their side.

It is clear that the fireflies, assuming they had any good to begin with, lost it a while already.
This. The game had a budget of 200 million dollars and copies were often sold discounted and bundled, especially after launch. It's likely that TLOU2 barely broke even, even with all the copies sold.

So it Rise of Skywalker its way to the 10 million mark. Delightful.

Ironically the original feels more fitting with the setting.
Joel looks grindy and a dirty. He looks too clean in the original. Same goes to Ellie.

My problem with a lot of remakes is that they try to make things too "pretty" and "clean" than the original, not understanding its art direction and themes.
In addition to all of the TLOU1 news, a scene from the HBO TLOU show has also been revealed:

This scene looks very off-putting for some reason.

Maybe they are hiding from clickers or something, perhaps this is the subway section...I guess.
Okay, I looked at the image again and yeah, they are hiding from clickers.

It kind looks cheap tho.

Thats because, news flash, people who dont give a shit about video games wont be convinced to change their minds because of the tv show.

I wish for once these idiots would get that.
I don't even mean just the bad ones, I want to know how many people who say Watched Arcane which is supposed to have been absolutely amazing...actually spent money on LOL.

I legit see more people saying
"Wait, is there a game?...Cool, I guess..."

AS much as i'm a fan of the 1st game, it doesn't need a remake. At all. It feels like it's just there to try and shoehorn in 2's existence. Bet you near the near the end when you reach the hospital it's gonna give you the option to not kill abby's dad and let ellie die.
Here's my take on the situation.

In order for a remake to be warranted, there has to be two crucial elements to it.

1) Passage Of Time (Enough To Justify A Remake)

2) Making Actual Changes To The Game And It's Formula

The Last Of Us Part 1 does neither of these things. It's literally the exact same experience you can get from just playing the PS4 version with barely any difference in it's graphical design. Not to mention the original PS3 version is less than 10 years old. It's very clear that this is all just a cash grab that Neil Druckmann's ND has come up with to further milk a once dignified franchise.

Which makes me wonder why remake it at all instead of making a new IP or something
