The NBA Thread

We were 2-8 (current record 18-21) with him in the lineup this year, so I think it was time to move on.
Feels like they could have gotten more for him than an old and busted CJ McCollum and a bag of takis. But then again the league probably doesn't need 5ft11 guards that don't play defense.

Exactly. Trae is not even a good player anymore, at this moment in time. Nobody is looking for a ball-dominating guard who barely shoots above 40% and, like you said, plays ZERO defense, to be their centerpiece. He's not going to be the kind of guy who has a long and productive second act either. He's basically already finished, and I think most everyone around the league knows it.

Really, in that way, Washington is the perfect place for him to have landed. It's the NBA's dead zone.

Damn are the Hawks retarded or is Gae Dung just that ass.
Mostly a salary dump. Trae Young just isn't a valuable player. Too small to play defense effectively, making more money than people want to pay him, and he has a player option so he might be able to force you to pay him going forward too. The Spurs already basically selected De'Aaron Fox over him which is certainly paying off, and there's reports that the Wizards actually wanted assets attached to Trae because they view him as a negative asset. Really, the idea of a small guard not named Steph Curry being your best player is not a very popular one. Brunson's really the only other guy I'd view as potentially viable there. Bit of a resetting of value in the era of the 2nd apron.

What I haven't seen talked about much is how this inadvertently fucks over the Grizzlies, of all teams. If Trae has that little value what the hell are they ever going to get back for Ja?

Now that you mention it, Ja is basically the Trae archetype but with even higher superstar diva behaviors. I always kind of viewed him as Zion Williamson type player who had talent but lack the mentality to be actually useful when really he is the worst of Trae Young's size and Zion's personality.

Ja is way worse than Zion as a human being. Zion is just a dumb fat fuck who's primarily addicted to po' boys and OF whores and happens to be incredible at basketball when he decides to give a shit. Ja is that piece of shit suburban black kid who feels insecure about his "privilege" and overcorrects by trying to become some thug caricature.

I'd be surprised if Zion's teammates, if frustrated sometimes, don't at least like the guy. I'd be surprised if anyone, other than his piece of shit leechmen, wants to be around Ja at all, at this point.

He might stop being a moron if he gets traded to a contender.

But even if that happens, I doubt there's much interest in him. He can't shoot threes so he needs to be the primary ball handler and he's not really good enough to be #1. He's also injury prone and not at that Kawhi/Embiid level where you can get elite play out of them until their bones inevitably explode.

All-Star reserves are out. East seems a bit wonky ngl. I don't think KAT deserved it this year and Siakam feels like a reputation pick. Out West LeBron is definitely getting helped out by the name, but that's nothing unprecedented (see Kobe's last couple of all-stars and all-defense teams). Congrats to Jamal Murray finally making it, Sengun feels like a bit of a snub, as does Kawhi.

Every time I see jersey swapping merchants Harden, Westbrook, or Durant hop to a brand new team I just think back to what could have been had that Thunder team not had to have broken up. Those 3 together were going to win multiple chips, no doubt about it. What a shame.

I feel like Westbrook is usually happy to play with the team he is on, it's the team that gets sick of him and trades him away. Whereas the other two are just never happy for some reason and have to force a trade every couple years.

I truly hope that James Harden retires without a championship and is mostly forgotten by future generations of NBA fans. I compare him to Adrian Dantley from the '80s, an amazing scorer with a bad attitude who never won shit.

If there were some way to make them team-first and not about the money. I mean, there's no avoiding the fact that each of those guys could, in their prime, command a supermax contract. If they each agreed to play for about a third of what they were worth, maybe.

The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards as part of an eight-player trade, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The Mavs will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round draft picks and three second-rounders, sources said.

The Wizards also are acquiring Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum in the trade, according to sources.

Also, everyone's favorite fruity player Jared McCain is headed to OKC for Houston's 2026 first round pick and three 2nd round picks

Nico Harrison should never be allowed s y position of power in the NBA ever again. There should be some sort of lifetime ban for how badly he fucked the Mavericks for no reason. It was such a stupid trade that I can only believe it was tbe league conspiring to build up LA for ratings.
