Patrick Beverley has been arrested and charged with violently strangling his 15 year old sister.
 
It's ridiculous and borderline embarrassing how bad the east is compared to the west this year. The WCF are going to be the defacto Finals even moreso than previous years.

I don't think it was ever this lopsided lmao. The Top 10 teams in the West would make the ECF in the East. What a joke!

Wasn't it super imbalanced in the early 2000s? I remember there being a stretch where the only things in the East that were any good were the Pistons and LeBron. Maybe I'm overlooking things though.

Really this year it seems stuff is more top heavy than anything else. The East as a whole sucks but the Pistons seem legit, the Cavs should get back to form once Garland is back, I honestly like the future of the 76ers with how their guards have been playing, and some of the teams are clearly tanking and are injured. Giannis is still a serious MVP contender too. Out West the Jazz, Grizzlies, Clippers, Mavs, Kings, and especially Pelicans aren't really serious teams this year.

I mean it probably was especially in the Lakers 3 peat when it was those Pacer and Nets teams. But it just feels like all the conteders in the weaker conference collapsed leaving no real air apparent. It's not a coincidence that the team that had the worst record 2 years ago are now leading the entire conference because the Heat, Bucks, Celtics and Pacers all collapsed.

Pistons, Pacers, Cavs, and Heat were effectively the only .500 teams during the 00's in the East. It's also why I roll my eyes when people call the all time leader in turnovers the best player ever. Mothafucker spent all his time coasting in the East, and the only time he had real competition was the big 3 in Boston after he went to the "Heatles" as he so called them. The Lebron dick riding has always been disgusting. Fuckin' Jordan was considered a failure for years before he started finally winning rings, and if anyone treats Lebron with that same level of expectation it's like the sky is falling. Can't wait until Balco Bron is gone and they have to try and figure out which next milque toast bore of a baller is going to take his place as the face of the league.

Portland should have been decent this year, but our head coach got busted gambling with fuckin mobsters. Stupid fuck makin millions as a coach and he's gambling with guindaloons who haven't mattered in decades.

I'm not ordinarily a LeBron apologist, but it's not incredibly surprising that a guy who's played longer than almost anybody would be toward the top of the leaderboards in negative stats too.

Didn't win a ring until year 9 as well, and the conversation at that point had very much become that he was a guy that couldn't close it out and win the big games. But he was turning those few other good East teams to ash during those years. 2007 vs. the Pistons in the ECF stands out.

But yes the West was very much the better conference back then too, and he just ran into a wall year after year, going into the Finals with like... Boobie Gibson as his best wingman.
 
The East has literally sucked dick since Jordan retired in '98. The Knicks made the finals from 8th the following year because no teams in the East were that great. Pacers were an 'almost but not quite' team for about 8 years, never won shit. The Jason Kidd Nets were good but had no realistic chance of winning a title in '02 or '03. Mediocre teams like the Paul Pierce-Antoine Walker Celtics and the Ray Allen Bucks were making conference finals. The Heat won in '06 but I feel like Dallas lost that series more than the Heat won it. The Pistons in '04 and '05 are the only East team in that era I give credit for actually being a great team.

Even though the East has been better in recent years - I think since about 2019 - the West has been the superior conference by a decent margin literally every year since 1999. Why we insist on persevering with the conference system I have no idea. The All Star Game discarded it a decade ago, and it just makes the playoffs completely unbalanced (eg. Celtics having the easiest championship run in history in '24).

Lebron's '07 run is actually underrated. The Cavs were not even remotely good enough to win a title and he dragged them to the finals. However LeBron deserves more shit because he couldn't get back in '08, '09 or '10, even though he had better teams in all those years. Especially '09, the Magic were good but the Cavs were better. I was rooting for the Magic that year but still couldn't believe they actually won. The Lakers would have won the championship either way. Sucks we never got a Kobe-LeBron finals.

You'd see more parity if they did away with the conference system. Or maybe just kick the Hornets and Wizards out of the league, who knows.

Everyone's in the same draft. If your conference is weak your record is gonna be better than it really should be and now you get to pick lower in the draft. Every time you beat the shit out of yet another crappy Hornets team you're just hurting yourself.
 
They're never going to get rid of conferences not only because of the travel reasons but also because the teams in the East benefit from it and as such their owners would never vote to do away with it. Some of the disparity is explained through luck and desirable markets out west, sure, but there's also just shitty owners behind a bunch of the teams in the East or at least owners whose primary concern isn't winning, like the Bulls.
