The standard is the exact opposite. Even media outlets that are regarded as right wing and 'transphobic', like the Daily Mail, use 'gender-based' pronouns rather than sex-based pronouns.

Not that there will be records remaining, but if there were, in fifty thousand years historians will wonder how and why there was a sudden uptick of women raping and murdering other women in the early years of the 21st century.

The problem is so bad that now I just assume 'she' means trans woman instead of actual woman, if the crime involves sex and murder.

Did you actually read @Coo Coo Bird 's post? It was about Pooners, not Troons, and it is very common for the mainstream media to deliberately ignore the fact that a criminal/mentally ill woman is a Pooner.

Okay, I did miss your contrast of the situation between troons vs pooners pronoun "respecting", but Audrey Hale is the only example that comes to mind, and if I recall, the police did not, at first, release a name or gender which might have led to the reporting pattern. But I do note:

Wikipedia (of course) is all he/him and refers to Hale as a man

This ABC report chooses she/her.

This report uses one 'their' and one 'she', otherwise it (awkwardly) avoids pronouns except in quotes.

NPR avoids all pronouns (for Hale, not for everyone). NPR has also tellingly called Hale her parents' 'child' rather than her parents' daughter - even though Hale's mother specifically says 'I think I lost a daughter today'.

Scrolling through CNN and other reports, I get the feeling of every effort at not using pronouns, rather than using she/her.

I do wish there was a more systematic way to monitor things like this. I do note that a google of 'Elliot Page' is all male pronouns, all the time. The establishment media has no problem calling her 'him'.
