Lovequest The Relationship Vows

When I read these vows, this was the first thing that popped into my mind:

Oh god, I just realised that the contract in that picture has Chris' signature on it. How does that work?

I don't know if it's the bad syntax or the taco bell from lunch, but this is making me feel really gross. It's not like he met her at Blizzcon or some shit and talks to her a regular basis. This was a fake girlfriend that probably avioded him as much as was possible.

Look what Sonic is wearing around his neck. In Sonichu lore Chris turns into Sonic (and actually has a bunch of marriages)

So I called it right. Chris has the same mindset of an abusive husband, only he fails utterly at attracting women and can't rely on arranged marriages.

Man that is controlling as much as it is pathetic. Thanks for sharing Thetan.

I couldn't help but notice Chris doesn't use as much improper capitalization in his writing. Interesting.

I like how OPL expects her to be totally okay with him cheating on her.

It was an "open relationship", so it's not cheating, or at least it is permissable cheating.

The idea of telling her all other details is weird, isn't it? Is it standard in an open relationship to talk to each other about your sex lives outside of each other? Does that suggestion come originally from Catie or Chris?

So much talk about loyalty and faithfulness and placing her at the forefront of his priorities makes me think he's not entirely aware of what an open relationship means. Not to say people in open relationships are unfaithful, but if I were in an open relationship, someone talking about faithfulness so much would make me feel an unwanted pressure. Then again, I can't say I'm entirely surprised he doesn't grasp the concept of an open relationship.

I would say it's the responsibility of Catie to specifically shut Chris down if she's uncomfortable with him thinking they're dating. (I don't remember the details behind their situation and how much she's at fault.)

However, it's blatantly obvious that Chris is trying to "seal the deal" with these vows. I wish Catie called him out on that, just so we could see his panicky backtracking. "Nonono, dese aren't wedding vows!! (they just resemble wedding vows in every other way but the name!!)"
Wait a second. Apologies if I missed it but how recent were these vows? I was under the assumption they were done while they were dating. Were these done after they broke up?

Oh no, they were done while they were dating. But regardless, they had like a date or two. Chris is trying to get her to sign the equivalent of wedding vows.

So it was early on long before "Super long term commitment" is much of a thought. Thanks for the clarification.

Chris has always had a weird understanding of commitment in relationships. As soon as he is in or even near a relationship, his presumption is that it will last forever.

To be fair to him, it isn't just a one way street. He vows his own undying loyalty just as much or more as he expects it from the other person.

In a way, there is something a little sweet about these vows and this attitude. If my nine-year-old cousin wrote that type of vow to a girl in his class, I would think it was adorable and showed he was a good kid. I don't quite know how to feel about that attitude coming from Chris. It is naive and innocent in kind of a charming way, but there is a level of creepiness about it too.

What I can't figure out is whether that creepiness is inherant to this part of his attitude in particular or if the creepiness is just poor execution or bleeding in from other parts of Chris.

It's his desperation leaking out.

What I want to know is: did Chris broach the topic of an open relationship before he wrote these vows? Or was this the absolute first Catherine had ever heard of it?

Because if I met a guy who was so serious about a committed relationship that he wrote vows, and then threw in "p.s. I get hanky panky on the side whenever I want", it'd set off warning bells.

Open relationships take a lot of maturity to handle, and most people would discuss them thoroughly beforehand.... Then again, Chris is not most people.

I'm also loving all the scribbles-out. He literally made them up as he went along.

Oh it definitely is. I guess part of my point was it shows his main desperation is his desperation to meet his "one true love".

I know that there is a lot of negative stuff involved in that, because a lot of the reason for that has to do with just wanting someone to pamper him and take care of him.

I guess when I see someone who is eager to find their "soulmate", I think that is more charming than someone desperate for sex, money, or fame. There are a lot of aspects of Chris that remove some of the charm. But, for me at least, not all of it.
