I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

In Spanish speaking culture, they really do take both parents' last names. English speakers get confused as hell when they see what looks like a middle name, but really it's the father's last name, called the apellido paterno. The mother's last name usually comes last and is called the apellido materno. I see woke latinos constantly tout this as being really progressive, but it's still a patriarchal naming structure, the maternal and paternal grandmother's last name is almost always lost when two people have children. In English speaking nations, they do sometimes hyphenate to keep both last names out of respect. I'm assuming that when they have children they hyphenate the father's paternal name and mother's paternal name as usual. The reason it's not particularly common is probably because some latinos don't like hyphenating and go with Anglo naming customs or otherwise marry an English speaking white person and dilute the names back down to one. Not only that, it's a pain in the ass and frowned upon to give your child a different last name than yours in America.
But.... how do they not end up with names with hundreds of hyphens? Surely once the Ocasio-Cortez and Gomez-Alberto families get married they're not Ocasio-Cortez-Gomez-Alberto, right? Because most hispanic people I know don't even have one hyphen.

If that's the case, then in your example the child of 'Ocasio-Cortez' and 'Gomez-Alberto' would just have the last name 'Ocasio-Gomez'

I'm certain that Latino families that don't narrow it down to one name probably just pass down the father's hyphenated names, like I sort of hinted at in the last sentence. Having a child with a different last name than the father and mother is a no-no in America. It's funny that Ocasio-Cortez loves talking about her latino heritage when her family did just that and now has an Anglo naming custom.

Conservative Youtuber Mr Reagan has a video about AOC's top manager DNC "hacker" Zack Exley, self-admitted madman who wanted to get "500 Elizabeth Warrens and run them together as a slate" because he is too "crazy in the wrong way" to run himself:

He also has a clip of #BLMer Shaun King acting and sounding black when he's white. Recall the video I linked to of AOC speaking with a black accent pointing out that she did not sound like a Latina.

AOC is the type of jackass who understands other cultures so poorly that she can't tell the difference between different darkie talking patterns so she probably thought that African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) is the same as cholo spanglish.

When something is posted on Hillary Clinton's Twitter without " - Hillary Clinton" appended to the end of the message, that means an intern on Hillary's social media/PR management team posted the message.

Sure Whatsapp usage is bad, but at least it has encryption. Something Hillary's illegal bathroom closet server didn't have, seeing as we have all the fucking emails.

Yes, but at least when Obama said something stupid, he knew enough to try to make it sound somewhat reasonable. This woman's got no such filter.
he also sounded like "dad" or a civics teacher--& dads/teachers say dumb things all the time, so that didn't surprise anybody.

AOC is way too young to sound like dad, mom or a teacher ... unfortunately, to me she sounds like a teenager who somehow one day magically found herself in the congress.

Bill Clinton said he didn't inhale. Barrack Obama said that he inhaled because that was the point. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez drinks the bong water.

Agreed. The way you wrote it makes it sound like some sort of early 2000s film with Anne Hathaway, but it's almost as if that's the narrative they're aiming for. I honestly don't know what the media's obsession with "vibrant YOUNG politicians" is. I'm not saying let the Boomers reign forever, but youth isn't exactly a plus when you're voting on things like fiscal policy for the entire country.

It's almost like the DNC and by extension their MSM cohorts are desperately trying to distract from the fact that what little platform they have left is anathema to any regular american.

"Vote for us! We have 'young' people! We're the cool party!"
