I honestly only know about American politics from what I read on the Internet but since we all love shitting on leftists I figured we'd get a kick out of this. Also it's trending on Twitter so you know it's important.

NEW YORK — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old political novice running on a low budget and an unabashedly liberal platform, upset longtime U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley on Tuesday in the Democratic congressional primary in New York.

The surprise victory by the community organizer in a district that includes parts of the Bronx and Queens came after an energetic, grassroots campaign that mustered more than enough support in a low-turnout race that many had expected to be an easy win for Crowley, a member of the Democratic House leadership.

“The community is ready for a movement of economic and social justice. That is what we tried to deliver,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who has never held elected office and whose candidacy attracted only modest media attention.

She told The Associated Press after her victory that she didn’t have enough money to do polling in the race, but felt in her gut that her message had a chance to connect.

“I live in this community. I organized in this community. I felt the absence of the incumbent. I knew he didn’t have a strong presence,” she said.

Crowley has been in Congress since 1999 and hadn’t faced an opponent in a primary election since 2004, when Ocasio-Cortez was just a teenager. He was considered a candidate to become the next House speaker if Democrats win the majority.

“It’s not about me,” Crowley, 56, told his supporters at a campaign party following his loss. “It’s about America. I want nothing but the best for Ms. Ocasio-Cortez. I want her to be victorious.”

He later played guitar with a band at the election night gathering, and dedicated the first song, Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run,” to Ocasio-Cortez.

Crowley represents New York’s 14th Congressional District, where he is also the leader of the Queens Democratic party.

Ocasio-Cortez was outspent by an 18-1 margin during her race but won the endorsement of some influential groups on the party’s far left, including MoveOn, as well as the actress Cynthia Nixon, who is running for governor. She defeated Crowley by 15 percentage points.

Born in the Bronx to a mother from Puerto Rico and a father who died in 2008, Ocasio-Cortez said she decided to challenge Crowley to push a more progressive stance on economic and other issues.

She attended Boston University, where she earned degrees in economics and international relations, and also spent time working in the office of the late U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy.

After graduating, she returned to the Bronx where she became a community organizer. In the 2016 presidential campaign she worked for U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Among her issues is expanding the Medicare program to people of all ages and abolishing Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. She recently went to Tornillo, Texas, to protest against policies that have separated parents from their children at the southern U.S. border.

Ocasio-Cortez gained some internet attention for a campaign video called “The Courage to Change,” a two-minute spot for which she wrote the script and featured footage from her own home.

Crowley is chair of the House Democratic Caucus, the fourth-highest ranking position in Democratic leadership in that chamber of Congress.

His loss drew the attention of President Donald Trump.

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” he tweeted.

The Republican candidate for the office, Anthony Pappas, is running unopposed and had no primary. Pappas teaches economics at St. John’s University.

She was a Bernie campaigner, is supported by BLM, and wants to abolish Immigrations and Customs Enforcement. Also this was in a solid-blue Congressional District so you know she's a shoo-in for next Congress.

But hey, we did get to see Trump laugh at Crowley on Twitter.

It seems the new angle is "Hahah why are conservitards so mad about this particular new senator? We can't imagine why, except she's a latinx womyn."

They're conveniently forgetting promoting her front and center constantly.
Yeah. I don't know of a single person who's mad at her, and I don't think I've read anyone online mad at her. It's just projection about how they feel about whoever they oppose.

AOC is hilariously stupid, and I'm enjoying every exceptional moment as she bumbles her way to eventual obscurity.

She has nice tits and pisses off Slurpy Greer so I like her. I hope to get her to suck me my penis one day.
She's got teeth that could bite clean through a corn cob and the eyes of someone crazy enough to do it. So if you want to stick your penis in there, be my guest.

So how does she feel about her last name being that of a conquistador who raped and pillaged and colonized the shit out of some natives.

Her type typically doesn't like to get into the conquistadors too much other than on a surface level "Europeans are evil slaughtering monsters" because then they have to get into the fact that the Spanish are, rather like Jews, Schrodinger's POC.

Spanish, as in from Spain, are most definitely white. I haven't seen any progressives try to claim they're PoC, there's only the /pol/ memes about having Berber blood. Latin and South American countries are most definitely not a big fan of their papa either.

She also hates you.
Her feigned interest in latin culture makes me think shes one of those people who is really into raceplay in the bedroom, a woke feminist or whatever who pretty much only gets into white guys and will only give bjs if you neg her enough to slurp some white dick. So @drtoboggan is fine as long as he's white and really mean.

It truly is mind boggling that a woman who carries the name of basically THEE most notorious European conquerer of all time made the claim that she's "native American", because "latinos are native American".

I mean... wow. That's just... wow.

Apparently she had quite the twitter tantrum over some talking heads on Fox News making fun of her for her affected accent when she pronounces her own name. Apparently she's "doing the work" of being "Latinx", all of which apparently hyphenate their last names, it's not fronting at all.

The absolute state of the DNC.
Yeah, and I'm having a tough time even making sense of what she said.

So she was mad about a few things. Firstly, about how she puts on a hyper latino accent when saying her own name (We're all quite aware of this phenomenon)

Secondly, because people keep referring to her as Cortez, instead of Ocasio-Cortez. Jesus lady, just be happy they're using your actual name.

Then, weirdly, she goes on this side trip about how spanish people always just take both parents last names and hyphenate them, which certainly cannot be true, otherwise by now the names should have like 100 hyphens in them. Also, most spanish/latin people I know of have but one last name.

Apparently she's "doing the work" of being "Latinx", all of which apparently hyphenate their last names, it's not fronting at all.

Latinos don't hyphenate their last names. Most of them have two last names: Name (Middle Name) + Father Name + Mother Name. There are some countries where only the Father name is enough.

The majority of Latinos aren't native American: they have native american blood plus white blood (likely Spaniard). I think there is only three countries where purely indigenous are more than mixed: Honduras, Bolivia, and Peru. It's so common that they don't even consider themselves either but "mixed". Also, a bunch of them are 100% white because they live in areas where there was little indigenous population and they ended up outbreeding them (Argentina, Uruguay).

It just show how ignorant this chic is and how desperate she is to try to pretend she's something she is not. If a German couple moves to Colombia and have a kid there, and the kid grows talking Spanish, learning about the local culture, being participate on the traditions, engaging in local politics, and overall, feeling himself Colombian... is he German just because of the DNA? This moron is doing exactly the same.

Alexandria Donkey-Chompers: When I First Started Going to School, My Teachers Thought I Was a Rētard

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recalled how her public-school teachers thought she needed "remedial education" because she had grown up speaking Spanish at home.
And also, I'm guessing, because she's stone-cold stupid and ignorant as a lichen.

The freshman lawmaker, speaking Saturday at a packed town hall organized by the Jackson Heights People for Public Schools, said, "As a child I spoke Spanish first. … and I went to a school where no one looked like me. I went to a school where teachers thought I needed remedial education because I spoke two languages instead of one."
Oh? Which two languages?

And yeah, I totally believe that being bilingual in New York City was a totally exotic thing that teachers were baffled by in Nineteen F***ing NINETY-SIX, about when this retard would have begun school.

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit... I bet one third of her teachers spoke Spanish as a first language themselves.

It wasn't until she took a "high-stakes" test in which she scored in the 99th percentile across the board, she said, that educators realized she did not need extra help.

Was that 99th from the bottom, or 99th percent from the top?

Now I took a test like that. I think they gave scores on a percentile basis.

But New York educators are saying no such tests like that were given in New York at this time.

According to Ravitch, however, Ocasio-Cortez's claim sparked "controversy" during the event.
In a blog post generally praising the congresswoman, Ravitch notes Ocasio-Cortez could not be telling the truth about her test experience. The "high-stakes" test, she explains, is not scored by percentile.
Ravitch writes:
There was much talk about the importance of parents taking action by opting out of state tests. NYC has one of the lowest opt-out rates in the state, in some part because parents are warned that they won’t be admitted to the middle school or high school of their choice without test scores. It was a bit jarring to hear AOC say that she was treated in the Yorktown schools as in need of remedial education because she was Hispanic, not mainstream, but, she said, "a-high-stakes standardized Test" revealed she was in the 99th percentile. No one stopped to point out that she could not be referring to any high-stakes test used for accountability purposes because they don't rank by percentile. They classify students as 1, 2, 3, or 4. Her teacher must have given her a no-stakes individual test that produces a percentile ranking for diagnostic purposes. Well, she can't know everything about everything. None of us do.

She's pretending Spanish -- Spanish! -- was an exotic language few Pale Faces in New York City had ever heard spoken before in 1996.

As if we're talking about some small suburb of Boise in 1955.

Dr. Evil would like to comment.

Weirdly, Asians, who often speak languages that are legitimately exotic in the US to this day, seem to have no problem passing for non-retards in school and in fact are so good at passing for non-retards that Alexandria Donkey-Chompers supports a system to affirmatively discriminate against them for being so high on the non-retard scale.

Meanwhile, this insane narcissist spazzed the f*** out because people called her "Cortez" instead of "Ocasio-Cortez."

She says "AOC" is okay, though. Whew.

And as for her name? Spanish surnames are compound names made up from one name from the father, one from the mother. I think the first name of each parent's last name is used to make the kid's compound.

So I guess Alexandria Donkey-Chompers' dad's first last name was "Donkey" and her mother's was "Chompers."

But the thing is, many times people from a Spanish culture just use the first last name (their father's) as a surname. Vicente Fox, for example. His full name was Vicente Fox Quesada, but he routinely went by "Fox."

So it's no insult to just shorten her name to the one. (Though I think when you do this, you take the first of the two surnames, not the second. So she'd be Sandy Ocasia, not Sandy Cortez.)

But she takes it as an insult and a racist one to boot. Millennials and their microaggressions and pronoun-play.

F*** off, race-baiting dummy. Honey, when the Democrat party redistricts your ass back to bartending and juicing your tips by unbuttoning a couple of buttons, no one's going to have to know your name.

Yorktown Heights: A commenter points out she grew up in Yorktown Heights, a suburb of New York city (next county to the north).

Okay, fair enough: But in Yorktown Heights, then, 25 minutes from New York City, people are baffled by Spanish speakers in 1996?

Dude, I am much older than she is from a podunk town far, far from New York City or any city at all and I had Filipinos (who spoke Spanish) and kids from Mexico and Central America and an actual just-got-here arrival from Ar-hen-tina in my grade school.

No one was wigged out. No teachers said, "I do not understand these alien sounds you are making with your foreign mouth."

I would also think that Puerto Ricans have very little native blood, because it was one of the first islands settled by the Spanish, and the indigenous Tiano were decimated by disease, worked to death as slaves, and assimilated pretty quickly by the Spanish. By the mid 1500's there was really nothing left of the "natives". There language and religion was wiped out, everybody was a Christian, and there was nody you could find that would've been a "pure-bred native". The next 500 years after that was nothing but a further dilution and watering-down of what little was left.

Unlike the native Americans of 1700s, of whom there were certainly many, many "pure-bred natives", the Puerto Ricans of the 1700s hadn't seen a for-real native in hundreds of years.

If AOC is any sort of "native", she's a native whose native blood has been watered-down over half a millenium.

She really is like the Dead Old Party's version of Trump, with her general craziness and twitter tantrums.

In Spanish speaking culture, they really do take both parents' last names. English speakers get confused as hell when they see what looks like a middle name, but really it's the father's last name, called the apellido paterno. The mother's last name usually comes last and is called the apellido materno. I see woke latinos constantly tout this as being really progressive, but it's still a patriarchal naming structure, the maternal and paternal grandmother's last name is almost always lost when two people have children. In English speaking nations, they do sometimes hyphenate to keep both last names out of respect. I'm assuming that when they have children they hyphenate the father's paternal name and mother's paternal name as usual. The reason it's not particularly common is probably because some latinos don't like hyphenating and go with Anglo naming customs or otherwise marry an English speaking white person and dilute the names back down to one. Not only that, it's a pain in the ass and frowned upon to give your child a different last name than yours in America.
