Transformers general thread - Toy Robot men based on giant robots based on previously mentioned toys about said robots

I bought my oldest son a pretty cool Transformer today. It's a Ghostbusters crossover and it's alt-mode is the ECTO 1 1959 Caddy ambulance, and it even comes with Slimer and another ghost.
They've been making some pretty cool crossover transformers these past few years. That one's a new variant based on the new upcoming ghostbusters sequel. The strangest thing about it though is the fact it's a heavy redesign of an already existing transformer that came out like a year or 2 before it. If you look up "combiner wars onslaught" the similarities are just immediately obvious.

Scalpers seem to fucking love these crossover things. so far I've only gotten the restock preorder of this one that was initially a "numbered release walmart exclusive" that sold out in 2 seconds due to bots literally buying the entire stock. They literally made more batches several times as non-walmart exclusives after the fact, probably because of how fucking angry people were. Scalpers still seem to have gotten all the stock online each time though, save for the most recent prerorder which was date based and is apperently going to ship out in august.

There's 2 other figures in this line aside from the ecto 1 and the delorean, not sure if those other 2 are remolds or completely original designs though. The most recent one is kinda an outlier because the first 3 were all based on well known movie vehicles. It's the X jet but not the version from the X men films. Can't seem to find a decently non-mistransformed stock image of it.

I really thought we were gonna get a Terminator entry in the collaborative series, the timing was perfect. New crossover comic, shitty movie was coming up and the designs were already in the comic, they had Seeker Hunter-Killers, Skynet Cybertronians and at the end Megatron-Terminator hybrids.

I'm kind of hoping all these new beast molds will give us pretender repaints. That and we still need the Deluxe insecticons because we only got the regular insecticons and chopshop.

People are wanting Armada shit to happen next, but again it's just the main TV show characters they want. They never want to stick around long enough so you start getting the deep cuts to a series.

Target as a beast machines T-Wrecks as their next Generations Exclusive, but the Beast Machines dinobots suck as stand alone releases, you need to have the whole team not just one or two. That's kinda what bothers me about hasbro is that they never give you the full team and everything gets peacemealed out or you get 1 and 2 of a set and then the line ends and they remake 1 and 2 and then make 3.

Take the Micromasters for example, there's a shitload of unfinished teams, they just released the remaining two of the Decepticon Hot Rod team. But they put in the two firetruck members of the Micromaster metrosquad team which consists of 6 bots. The Skylynx Base set is coming with the two missile truck members of the Astrosquad and a weirdly repainted shuttle. Meanwhile the Moon Rover members of the astrosquad are MIA. It just doesn't make sense, just give us all the members to a thing.

Anyone got any Kingdom figures yet? I’m not a Beast Wars guy but it’s gotta sting that the only G1 guy is the best of the deluxe assortment.

Warpath is a fun little figure and I hope to see more deluxe minibots, specifically Guzzle.

I don't have any pics or a camera ready right now, but I've only been able to get 2 kingdom figures so far, though thankfully they were the main ones I was interested in getting to begin with. Optimus Primal and beast wars Megatron are both really nice figures, but I got some gripes with both.

Optimus Primal's torso transformation joint is scary fucking tight and I'm surprised it hasn't shown any stress marks or exploded yet, and I found out the hard way that if you move his legs outwards or forwards there's minimal clearance and the paint begins chipping off the inner parts of the legs. This is if course because they used white paint instead of white plastic for his legs. The monkey mode is great and the way the guns can be deployed or hidden in either mode is great as well. I mainly just keep the guns retracted when in bot mode because the sword handles are already the same as the shoulder cannons but slightly thicker, and both store on his back very nicely. The bipedal gorilla mode is a relatively weird leg transformation in terms of how it's done but it's illusion works once you get everything lined up right. I've just had him in that mode specifically for like the last month or so on my shelf because gorillas are fucking cool.

Beast wars Megatron is extremely on-model animation accurate in terms of robot mode but with more added greebling details, but lacks a lot of paint detail and they kinda went overkill on the fleshy orange spray in some areas. If they just axed the sloppy orange shit and used the paint budget for more metallic purple and maybe green on the legs He's be perfect aesthetically. There's apperently an unnanounced variant where he has an angry expression instead of a neutral one that people think is either a prototype mold accidentally getting mixed in with the normal batches or some variant that might be coming out soon as an exclusive. It's definitely not an intended thing because the teeth on the alternate headsculpt people have been finding on occasion aren't painted in properly. I kinda want to find one of those but I've rarely seen any transformers in physical stores since like the middle of last year, possibly due to scalpers in my area taking up all the stock. The way the claw arm is set up kinda bothers me because you can't cover up the hand or take the claw off so it's this strange in-between state not really accurate at all to how the intended aesthetic of beast wars megatron is. The soft plastic for the dino flesh is a cool touch that's probably the reasoning for the price hike to leader class, but it bends a little too easily and doesn't fully line up in some spots when you turn it into the T rex mode. His beast mode is a lot more posable than the masterpiece from what I've heard, and is also clearly a lot more realistically proportioned as he's not slavishly based on the show model. I might get another if they go on discount to try and fix the hollow legs and give him a custom paintjob.

Overall I have a lot more to say about Megatron than Primal on all fronts because it's such a unique figure in the sense it gets so much right and wrong simultaneously while still being a great and solid figure. He holds dynamic poses fairly well regardless of whatever flaws he has, and it's great to finally have a fairly accurate Beast Wars Megatron that isn't tiny like telemocha Megatron.
(I still really want telemocha Megatron despite this because he's literally just a tiny beast wars Megatron)

Sad to hear, I’m gunning for the G1 guys exclusively and am hoping for a Cyclonus tonight. His biggest problem is the head, I saw a wonderful custom on Radicons that gave him the more angular head design from the 86 movie.

Decided to watch Beast Wars and Beast Machines for the first time to see what all the fuss was about, especially with people freaking out over War for Cybertron potentially going there for the Kingdom part of the trilogy. Hot damn was it amazing to see such smart writing from what ostensibly is a show made to sell action figures. Silverbolt ["You shot me!"], Dinobot, Tigatron, Cheetor and Inferno stole the show for me. It's also a goldmine for still images.

Decided to add to my War For Cybertron collection and ordered Jetfire, which arrived today. I'm really impressed with him. He's HUGE! In robot mode he's taller than the G1 Trypticon reissue I got for my oldest son a couple years ago. The detailing in both modes is great. Jetfire/Starfire was always one of the Transformers I wanted as a kid, and I really like how much his robot mode for the WFC line looks like he did in the G1 cartoon. But I've realized that I've got quite a few Autobots now and only two Decepticons, so if I do end up buying any more figures then they will likely be Decepticons. Really like the WFC Shockwave and Skorpinok, and I heard that they'll be releasing Galvatron this year, and I've been considering trying to find Overlord either from one of the previous lines or from a third-party maker.

Titans return overlord runs about 30 dollars used and new in some cases. It's weird because there was so much hype around that figures release and they barely stocked it around by me. He's not the largest figure but he's a solid albeit smaller remake of the original figure he's based on. I've been on and off about buying him for a while now but from what I've seen and heard he's solid and scales generally well with the WFC guys. Now, the takara version is a different story. Scalped since day 1 of release and though the colorations a bit more accurate to the original g1 appearance of the character there's some weird shit that kinda brings it back a little like the chest being hollow on the outside rather than the inside and the prime master/power master display functionality getting removed because they were too cheap to include 2 more small figures. People have modded the figure by unscrewing the torso and breaking out the inserts that were glued in, but I'm not willing to do that to a figure that's 200 fucking dollars right now. Can't even afford shit like it to begin with.

It's always been fucking wild to me how in overlord's original appearance he wasn't actually a sentient being. he was a mech piloted by a human couple given to them by a satanic space fetus. Said mech later actually was given sentience by said space fetus and pretty much became a normal transformer after that. The Japanese exclusive seasons of g1 are fucking out there at times, though g1 in general kinda has that kinda weird chaotic energy about it.

On the subject of that tangent, The english dub of Headmasters is it's own brand of chaos magic.

I've got the three Japanese series that was released on DVD in the States here a few years back, and yeah, there's some really muffed up shit in those shows. But then again, they ARE Japanese, and 80% of all the weird shit in the world can be traced to Japan. I guess that's what happens when your culture gets nuked three times.

What do the Kiwis who collect Transformers think of the Kevin Gibes thread? I can't say I know much if anything at all about Transformers, but Kevin is a collector's worst nightmare. He buys seemingly every single Transformer when they come out, opens them up and their value rapidly deteriorates due to being within close proximity of him.

Do not bring that evil here.

iirc Victory has a Malaysian English dub like DBZ

The walmart netflix Primal is ass, why are the decos hardly different for him, but they give Deep Cover the G2 Sideswipe Gobot color and the Siege seeker a very different color scheme.

Like they couldn't have given him the Universe 1.0 color scheme or the Primal Prime color scheme?

It's such a weird choice to have one of the netflix exclusive slots taken up by a 2 pack of figures that are "slightly fixed" versions of the standard release closer to their beast wars cgi model colors. Primal seems completely unchanged, unless the white on his legs this time is plastic instead of paint. You'd think they'd like change his leg balls to red or something but no it's just pretty much a repack job from what it looks like in the stock photos.

The Spoiler Pack megatron looks like it's the same Siege mold and color as the previous netflix Megatron as well. It's just that it comes with the purple Paleorex and a decepticon matrix bandolier.

Like I was hoping they could reference the Action master tank megatron or Purple G2 megatron. I really want some of the weird shit to make a resurgence like it did in Titans Return.
