You're only allowed to be triggered by those with less oppression points than you. So Asians can be triggered by white men (smell bad when they sweat) but are not allowed to be triggered by black men (also smell bad when they sweat).

Hitler had some triggers. Think about that, Tumblr. Hitler.

Hitler was an artist and liked small furry animals. I bet he scribbled some Nietzsche fan doodles back in the day.

Ahhh, ye olde trigger warning, word so washed out because of fucking Tumblrs incapability to handle real life.

"Kill yourself"

"#tw suicide, #suicide, #trigger warning: suicide, #trigger warning suicide, #tw..."

This is one of my favorite Tumblr posts, holy shit. It perfectly encapsulates the mentality of these Tumblrinas.
This was exactly what I was going to say. The hypocrisy is amazing.

I saw one once that went into more specifics, once, too. It was something like "Pour gasoline on yourself and light a match (trigger warning: FIRE)" Unfortunately it was probably too long ago to find the post again.

I think a lot of these people were too young to have stumbled across Ogrish and Rotten.com in their heyday. Lord knows how they'd react to goatse.
I wonder about this. One of my younger fb friends was talking with some of her other high school friends about what the worst thing they've seen online was. I think most of them said it was lemon party. But that's just one group I happen to know so it's pretty anecdotal.

So how was this whole "trigger" thing started?

It seems absolutely ridiculous so many people are throwing around that term for every little thing.

Hell, it's even starting to infect Youtube by the looks of things as this one guy I liked to watch felt the need to place a trigger warning about sexualized violence before he talked about the Metal Gear Solid series's treatment of women.

He makes some good points I feel, but still, I think he could have done without the whole trigger warning thing. I think most people who have been watching his Foxhound Rank guide have played at least part of the MGS series and have a good idea of what it's female characters are like.

I once posted this image with some caption and someone reblogged it with "tw scopophobia" "tw heteronormativity" "tw hands"

Plus I remember someone getting pissy when I refused to tag scopophobia in my own posts since someone might be triggered. It wasn't even that they were triggered, I don't understand Tumblr.

As I noted before, it probably is a carry-over from blogs or forums specifically for survivors or sexual assault. As these people migrated to Tumblr, which has a much broader scope of people it attracts, these people started up blogs doing the same thing and probably asked people who they followed to tag things. From there on out, it spread like a virus.

I do tag stuff that I think might make people uncomfortable just as a heads-up, but it's a courtesy more than anything. There's people who follow me just for cute pictures of puppies and not gifs from spectacularly gory horror movies, but my tags are more like "blood," "guts," "creepy" or "gross." No one is obligated to tag triggers on their blog, though, which is something a lot of Tumblr users don't seem to get. Tumblr is not a safe space, nor is it anybody's job to make it as safe a space as possible.

Sooner or later, they're going to have to come to terms with that.

The wonderful thing about Triggers
Is Triggers are wonderful things
They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy fun fun fun fun fun!
The most wonderful thing about triggers is that there's a ton!

My one regret is that I can only rate this winner once.

Oh here I finally screencapped something worthwhile for this thread:
The fucking egregious triggered-typing in this kills me. I like to imagine on the other end was a person, barely fazed, who typed something up with perfect spelling and grammar and then proceeded to backtrack and chop it up until it became the mangled mess we see it as.

"Hmm... needs more spaces here... and there... oops, better scramble the letters in this word..."
