I'm usually not big on schadenfreude but if this turns out to be Ubisoft's end, I'll sleep comfy. I really fucking hate this company and what it did to so many great franchises.
They should've died a decade ago.
Hopefully some other studio picks up the Watch Dogs IP. The bones of something really really cool is there but Ubisoft is too retarded to do anything with it.

Reminder that Ubisoft had the billion dollar idea of Assassins Creed in Japan with ninjas and proceeded to fuck it up so badly that not even that game could save them from their current downhill trajectory. What they did was the equivalent to someone literally handing them a bag of money to do a simple task, and in response to the offer, smugly tell the one offering essentially free money to go fuck themselves as a way of owning the chuds.

Remember when Ubisoft was based?

Speaking of Rayman, Raymanpc the most popular Rayman fanzine, has deleted their thread on the new game after the stock trading pause.
Ubisoft have confirmed that they "have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand".

According to various sources, the project is one of a 3D game for the Nintendo Switch and other consoles. Codenamed 'Steambot', and sometimes referred to as a remake, it is still in its early stages, and the teams at Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan are involved, with Michel Ancel acting as a consultant.

Ubisoft bought the perpetual license to his name for games, and related shit like merch/tie-in books etc, back in the mid to late 2000s
Gotta wonder how many millions they paid for it. While it's not entirely worthless, I don't think it's very valuable either. Tom Clancy is a literally who to most zoomers now (same with say, Sid Meier, or even John Carmack.)

The first payment alone was supposedly ~$30mil, and there were two more after that.
The price of the all cash acquisition has not been disclosed explicitly, but Ubisoft implied in its announcement that the initial payment in this fiscal year was of 20 million euros ($30 million). Additional payments are to also be made in the fiscal years of 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Whether or not it was split into even 1/3s, or if it was some heavier on the frontend we don't know, my personal guess would be it was split fairly evenly.

While it's not entirely worthless, I don't think it's very valuable either.
Maybe not now after he died and they ran it into the ground, but at the time it was:
Ubisof has further stated that “on the basis of past performance of Tom Clancy branded video games” (excluding any potential contribution coming from sales of ancillary products) the royalty savings generated by the acquisition are estimated to have an average positive impact on Ubisoft's operating income of a minimum of 5 million Euros ($7.72 million) per year

Insolvency would be weird since, according to their financial statements from earlier this year, they still had around a billion in cash/cash equivalents.
Well, turns out that doesn't do much good when you've got 1.4 billion in debt and have to lie about your revenue lol. They can't even do the early payoff of 286 million until the deal with tencent clears.

I think we should take from Ubisoft being in it's position that finance and media should be decoupled because the trap of predictable profits leads too much to slop and reliance on finance. Finance is the reason all media is homogeneously AIDs ridden because of thinking it will bring the widest audience. It's also why EA is owned by Saudis which I'm certain finance is fine with selling everything off to foreigners if the line goes up

I'm not a finance wizard or anything but this sure feels like a way to circumvent shareholder value and have Ubisoft get sold unfavorably to Tencent (which I'm sure aren't driving kickbacks to key execs in exchange).

Do they even need to go that far for Ubisoft? Chinese devs are starting to significantly break into AAA not just gachaslop.
They can just make their own better versions of AC and the other IPs they have their eyes on. Not like there's much unique aspects left in those games they can't emulate.

Remember when Ubisoft was based?
I was thinking about this the other day how quickly Ubisoft went from getting absolutely shit on for not having a female assassin in Unity, to having every single fucking thing being "lead" by females canonically. (IIRC, the women have been considered the canonical choices in Odyssey, Valhalla and Far Cry 6)
