It's my understanding that the Chandlers' insurance companies will cease paying for their lodging at the end of August. After that point, popular belief is that the Chandlers will not be able or allowed to stay at their rental home and will be forced out. With all information pointing to 14BLC still being uninhabitable (officially this time :alog:) and no family or friends to stay with, the Chandlers do not appear to have a place to go.

That is the general reasoning behind the "CWC Homeless Sept. '14!" chatter.
Is there any chance that this doesn't happen? All signs point to them being forced out, I really don't see a way out for them. Even if Chris woke up tomorrow and went "oh fuck, I'm in a large amount of debt!", tugboat and anything he gets from Ebay won't do it for him.

There are always chances. Unrealistic generosity on the part of the landlord, unexpected extension of the insurance payments, Charb having a stash of money no one knows about, Rocky deciding GodJesus wants her to open her doors... ALL of these are extreme long-shots, but none of them are impossible. It's worth thinking about the very unlikely, because Chris and Barb have a knack for defying the expected outcome of any given situation. By all rights, they SHOULD be out and on their asses in 60-90 days.

Chris does have a quite uncanny ability to cheat fate. By rights, he should have had his ass kicked several times over ( :alog: ) and gone to jail at least once if not more. However, thanks to society's apparently inexhaustible supply of pity and the heroic antics of Borb, he seems to have avoided the worst of it (in his terms at least - I think some direct punishment for his actions wouldn't go amiss). While his luck may run out come September, I'm not putting money on their ending up homeless.

'Fraid not. Look at how we treat Chris.
You mean like when a bunch of people here sent him money and essentials after the fire? Because that's really the only contact most people here have had with Chris. So I really don't know where this idea of anyone here treating him badly is coming from.

Unless you're meaning us talking about him in which case I'd like to remind you that we're a bunch of random spergs on the net and anything we say could very easily be ignored by Chris if he just didn't bother clicking on the link to the forums. Also the worst things said about him here are nothing compared to the shit Barb flings at him.

"Homeless" can mean a bunch of things. At the most strict level, it means sleeping on the streets or in parks. Or it could mean living in a vehicle or a homeless shelter. Or it could mean squatting somewhere (like an abandoned/condemned/burned down former residence). Or it could mean living in semi-permanent housing provided by the state or a charity. At the most broad level, I suppose it might refer to living in some sort of subsidized low-income housing project.

For any given person, each of these options is more likely than the last. Because "better" options are available, it is difficult to end up on the streets without serious mental illness and/or a willingness to do so. I think that applies to Barb and Chris as well. I would be surprised if they spent much time living as trolls under bridges, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they spent considerable time living in accommodation they did not fully pay for.

I always imagined Barb often views Chris in a similar light.
I think this is pretty accurate. Barb does not view Chris as a human being. She sees him more like a pet. She loves him, but he's also her possession like a pet. Like my cat - I love my cat, but my cat only eats the food I want her to eat, she goes outside when and for how long I say, she isn't allowed on certain furniture or areas, etc. Those are the kinds of insane boundaries Barb has for Chris.

Wait, what? I know she was forcing Chris to sleep around her and wasn't letting him use his own room, but she's been violent? Like physically abusive or just screaming and tarding out?
Pre-fire she flipped out and trashed his bedroom at one point, and decided that Chris was required from then on to sleep in the same room as her.

The only reason he's even allowed out of the house at all is because she needs him to run errands. Otherwise, he's expected to be at her side.

One thing I'd like to comment on. Chris leaves "Kacey" hanging on the line for 15 minutes. Who the fuck does that?
"Hey Kacey, my mom's here."
[15 minutes of vague noise]
"Ohh hey Kacey, I'm back now"
Chris is very ego-centric indeed.
I simply say, "I'm sorry, can you hold for a minute?" and then if it's more than a minute or two switch back to the original person and ask for them to call back later.

Barb doesn't seem like the kind of woman that would be happy with Chris interupting her (even for a second) just to talk to another woman.

There's one of the original Mumble chats from the old days where Chris is talking to several people. Chris has music playing in the background and it's very difficult to understand anyone because of it. One of the people says "hey Chris, can you please turn your music down? I can't understand what you're saying." Chris's response was basically "no, the music level is fine."

Alec, are those boundaries really that insane? I wouldn't want Chris on my good furniture, let me tell you.

The sleeping thing is a bit crazy Ill grant you. Its probably not incestuous, more just Barb feeling alone and frightened, and using Chris to allay her anxieties.

Even keeping him locked up like Sloth from "The Goonies" isn't too crazy. Chris has shown that he cannot peacefully co-exist with the nice, normal people out there, and is just an aggrssive nuisance. Barb doesn't have the energy or wherewithal to deal with his crap anymore ( not that she ever did before) and it puts her mind at ease, knowing her little pumpkin is safe and sound at home, where he belongs. Whew, never thought Id be defening anything Barb ever did!

I wonder if Barb will simply squat in the rental house after their time is up.

It can be surprisingly difficult to dislodge someone who never leaves the house. The process can drag out for weeks to months.

Is it ego-eccentricity or just cluelessness/one-track mind? Although the fact that he immediately switched back to Kacey argues in your favour. I would be more inclined to let him plead stupidity if he forgot about Kacey entirely and started doing something else when Barb left.

To me the weirder thing is letting Kacey clearly hear Barb without Barb's knowledge. He was a little rude to Kacey granted. But it could be defended a little by pointing out that he may have expected a couple minute conversation and it got out of hand, or that Kacey could have hung up at any time. It seems like a much bigger violation against Barb. If I were having a fairly personal conversation, and it turned out that the person I was talking to was letting someone eavesdrop on every word I would be really outraged. If I were left holding the line a too long I would be a little annoyed.

I can see that. Although she has the mind of a child when it comes to grudges and vindictiveness. She was harping on about that spaghetti for ten years.

Yeah, I totally agree with you there. It's just that the apartment during Chris' high school years looked relatively clean and Barb was living there all the while Chris was in high school because she retired in 1996, IIRC.

I wonder if Bob treated Barb the way she said was because of how vindictive she was. Like, if she was more willing to move on, apologize if she did something wrong, was willing to give the wrongdoer some slack, or whatever, she and Bob might have gotten along better. It's one thing to have a neighbor or coworker act like that, but a spouse? Yikes. I can't and won't say that Bob was a wonderful spouse, but I daresay that he and his wife could have gotten on better if she was a more mature person.

Also, Barb said she had been through quite a number of jobs, which made me wonder if her vindictiveness/childishness was one reason why she kept changing jobs?
