Disaster Updates on the Las Vegas Shooting - this is not the shitposting thread you are looking for

Thankfully, we have a great thread for all of your retarded arguments about gun control or whatever is going on in there at the moment, but for the rest of us there is a ton of shit coming out so we'll keep track of it here. If you want to argue like a retard, once again, the containment thread is perfect for that. So fuck off with that shit in here. Same with speculations. Keep this thread mostly for hard facts and discussion of said facts.

Basic Bitches Facts

  • 59 people were killed (including the gunman), and according to police sources, at least 527 were injured.
  • The shooter is Stephen Paddock, 64, from the area.
  • The FBI said he was believed to have acted alone.
  • He opened fired on the Route 91 Harvest Country Music festival in Las Vegas
  • About 22,000 people were attending the festival at the time
  • His sniper nest was in a corner room he rented on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel & Casino
  • 23 guns were found in his hotel room, with another 24 at his various, alongside explosives and thousands of rounds.

Facts about the victims
  • Multiple portraits of the victims have been published so far, if you want to get really depressed.
  • Three of them have yet to be identified
  • It's also important to remember: a lot of the victims are in critical condition and the death toll may keep rising, unfortunately.

The Updates:

This is where it gets interesting:

What Stephen Paddock did was highly professional. According to the last press conference by Undersheriff McMahill, two cameras were set up in the hallway in order to see SWAT team approaching, as well as one through the hotel room's peephole. Additionally, Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside of the room filming himself and possibly streaming it.

The Las Vegas gunman responsible for shooting over 550 people reportedly filmed himself during the rampage, according to multiple reports.

The latest revelation into shooter Stephen Paddock on Tuesday is that he had cameras set up in the hallway to know when police were closing in on his position but also reportedly had a device recording him in his hotel room as he fired upon thousands of concertgoers.

“Las Vegas madman Stephen Paddock set up a camera inside his hotel room to capture his deadly shooting rampage — and other surveillance in the hallway to alert him as cops closed in on him,” the New York Post reported.

Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said Tuesday that the FBI is reviewing all the footage recovered from the crime scene.

In the weeks prior to the shooting, Stephen Paddock wired $100,000 to the Philippines, Australia and possibly the Middle-East. He also recently visited Dubai according to certain reports, as did Marilou Danley.

First called a person of interest, then unrelated to the shooting, now she is back on the FBI's shitlist and still in the Philippines. There are reports she might be on her way back to answer questions but there is no certainty either way right now.

Leaked pictures have shown he left a note behind, but we still do not know what was written on it

And in case you didn't think he was already enough of a monster, turns out he used to work for the IRS

The Charlotte Observer reports:

The Las Vegas gunman who killed nearly 60 people at a country music festival worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, an IRS agent and in an auditing department over a 10-year period.

A spokeswoman for the Office of Personnel Management told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Stephen Paddock's employment included about two years as a mail carrier from 1976 to 1978.

After that, he worked as an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for six years until 1984. And then he worked a defense auditing job for about 18 months.

Paddock also previously worked as a defense contractor sometime during the late 80s, and graduated college from Cal State Northridge in 1977.

Reminds me of the Texas University Clock Tower shooting, where a recent autopsy recently found brain damage that could have contributed to his crazy homicidal behavior.

The autopsy done at the time found a malignant brain tumor impinging on the amygdala. They haven't yet come to a consensus whether it caused it, but it certainly couldn't have helped.

Yes, Charles Whitman specifically asked to have his brain examined after his death in his suicide note. It turned out that he had a "pecan-sized" brain tumor that was pressing against the amygdala and may have been malignant. Whether it contributed to the mass murder he enacted is the subject of extreme controversy.

I'm actually not sure if other mass murderers have had their brains autopsied. The ones who kill themselves immediately afterwards usually blow their brains out.

So what's the new hotness with him now?

More like - "we don't know why he did it; maybe we never will."

This is an article from today's Guardian on the motive, but it doesn't really say much that hasn't been said here already - https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oct/06/las-vegas-shooting-aftermath-motive
I get the impression that, for the British media, at any rate, this is starting to become old news. The US media may have fresh information.

I heard something on the radio on the way to work about he was apparently checking out other places to kill, and he had a [travel site] account which means he probably cut down his own internets before the attack instead of being a neocyberluddite.

I've generally been relying on here for updates so I wasn't sure how legit any of that was.

The longer this goes on without any real motive I'm beginning to suspect this guy just wanted to kill a bunch of people and cause havoc. Bored with life -possibly make a name for himself as some legendary spree killer. We've been shown he had no real connection to any of his targets aside from wanting to shoot at high capacity concerts from a high vantage point. There was also the fact that during the shooting he purposefully tried to shoot at some random jet fuel at an airport which just feels like adding more chaos rather than a concrete target.

I dunno man. Maybe he just played too many violent video games.

I think whatever his reason, if there is one and if it is found, it’ll end up being unsatisfying.
There won’t be any huge revelations or grand conspiracies. It won’t even be like Timothy McVeigh or Ted Kaczynski were, as horrible as their actions they had an ideology they were trying advance or revenge on an institution.
He’ll most likely just be another mass murderer who snapped and since shootings are a dime a dozen now, he won’t even be remembered by name.

Las Vegas survivor faces backlash after standing to greet President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump

Thomas Gunderson shot in the leg during the Las Vegas massacre on Sunday found the strength to stand for President Trump when he visited recovering victims in the hospital earlier this week.

The president and first lady Melania Trump visited Gunderson, who was among the more than 500 people wounded at the Route 91 Harvest Festival last weekend, at the city’s University Medical Center on Wednesday, where they posed for photographs and chatted.

The 28-year-old from Newport Beach, California, took to Facebook shortly after to post a video of the encounter which later went viral, writing: “I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand!

“There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president, and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my president the respect he deserves!”

Since then, Gunderson has received an overwhelming amount of positive responses and well wishes. But the survivor has also received a lot of negative reactions from Facebook users who were critical of his choice to stand for the president.

"Should have saved his energy. Hopefully, he's able to heal fast and return home before that 'great president' makes it impossible for nearly everyone to have healthcare," one user wrote, while another simply posted: "Oh don't turn your back to him phew!!!"

Some even saw Gunderson's choice to stand as a political statement after NFL players across the league chose to kneel during the national anthem to protest racial injustice.

Gunderson responded to critics in a separate post later this week, in which he said he prepared his family beforehand for the "backlash and hateful comments" he expected after the viral video and called out commenters he claimed wanted to "cause divide."
