Mate Drachenlord got 2 years in Prison in Germany, for spraying water at trolls that turned up at his house, and insulting the police for not doing anything to protect him from actual harrasment.

His German Lawyer, like the majority of criminal lawyers in Europe, would have been less interested in putting forward a strong defence than in avoiding inconveniencing, the Court, Police and other government agencies.

At least in the US Null was able to hire decent lawyers that vigourously represented his interests.

Not only is justice not free, justice is also (especially in Current Year) slanted heavily towards sympathetic defendants. If Null was a two-spirit woman of color running a G-rated My Little Pony forum for kids, he'd be able to utilize the sympathy of the masses to gain public favor and maybe even get some senators and congressmen on his side, at least on social media. He'd have ammo for his defense and possible political support for legislative change.

Sadly, a defendant running a site full of people who gleefully say all the "bad words" doesn't get any sympathy and most definitely wouldn't get any support from politicians and big name civil rights activists. Hell, not even the ACLU is interested in protecting freedom of expression anymore. Nobody wants to be seen as supporting "hate speech." and it's being seen that is the real problem. Why still hire a lawyer? After the first time, you could just use the same legal arguments and logic you've used every time.

Like, if I sue someone in a certain way and it fails based on reason A, B and C - then why hire a lawyer the next time? Just repressent yourself and give the same reasons again.
