Thanks for the rundown! I'll be picking it up, the PS1 original has a special place in my heart, probably the best RPG I played on that system.
It's definitely up there, though Suikoden 2 will always be my favorite game from back then. I've heard some people are getting sick of it but I love the new 2D-HD art style Square Enix has been pushing for its JRPGs and would be super stoked to see more games from the SNES and PS1 era remade like this.

finished Graivty Rush 2 today.
Such an amazing game and I hate Sony for not taking care of it and give us our damn third part!
Fuck, I've been meaning to play that one for years but its been stuck in my backlog. I was one of the few who bought a Vita and played the first game on that and thought it was fantastic.

I started to play it in 2020 after I got done with the first one (ps4 remaster) but I did not finished it until today.
Kat is so loveable.

I played the beginning of 2 but dropped it fairly quick for some reason. Which is odd because I picked the first one up on a whim and basically 100% it without playing anything else, now that was a great game. 2 is probably good as well but I haven't gone through it and when I wanted to the online for it was getting shut down.

937,000 kills left and the pooner shooter wants to help.

Hold on, I forgot the eyebrow.

That's better.

I played Half-Life 2 for the first time on the original XBOX, and the play time was almost over three hours for me.

Truthfully have not had that much fun playing a game like this in a while. In fact, I don’t even think I was like this when I played Deus Ex for the first time.

How integral is online for it?

I've always wanted to get more into Strategy and Grand Strategy style games but I get very lost and confused when trying them either due to menu complexity or sheer volume of aspects on screen.

I got Suzerain on steam, it's on sale atm, and I've actually been enjoying it pretty well. I'd say it's probably a pretty good entry level management style Strategy game. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I should look into next?

Also has piracy gotten more difficult? I've attempted to find a place I can pirate Disco Elysium but had 0 luck.

The thread on cs.rin.ru seems to have some downloads for it, though I can't test if they're working at the moment. I know there's been some disruption on there when it came to changes to google drive, and some earlier file sharing sites shutdown earlier this year, so it might be a little harder now than it was a bit ago.

Your problem is playing it on the OG xbox, just play it on Max or PC on steam like was originally intended and the game is so much better. Runs faster and still looks amazing even to this day.

I found my old copy of Football Manager 2011 and long story short, I've been playing Football Manager 2011 non-stop for the last 17 hours.

That moment when you come to your senses and realize 'Oh, shit, I haven't eaten or felt a ray of sunshine since yesterday'? That's how you know that a game is great.

So, I'm asking you, dear Kiwis - which games have the ability to turn you into Tyrone Biggums? Which are the games that can make you neglect food, drink, sleep, hygiene and loved ones?

Depends on your definition. There's no multiplayer, however:
  • No challenges to/from other people which rewarded "Dusty Tokens."
  • No online ranking, which I suppose doesn't matter for most.
  • No treasure hunts, which also rewarded Dusty Tokens. While treasure chests are still available finding them for their unique items is more difficult/time consuming. They also don't drop Dusty Tokens now.
  • No sharing photos through the game.
Dusty Tokens were exchanged for a bunch of stuff but none of it critical. So does it ruin the game, its story or gameplay? Probably not, but if you wanted any of those costumes, items, or features then you're SOL. One item that was unlocked from the tokens was infinite gravity gauge at the cost of doing less damage. It's just a bummer they shut the servers down without giving players a way to get these things in game anymore.

I also read on a reddit thread that those bonus items being gone made certain achievements/trophies harder to get. Again I haven't played it past the intro but the fact that I can't get everything an early player did kinda sucks. I also read someone being mad that they were an early player but lost their save so they're back to not having any of the bonus content.

How? The game is usually 6 hours a playthrough if you know what you're doing and aren't using speedrun strats.

I haven't checked in on Half-Life 2 for a while. Last time I played it, engine updates had turned the game into a bit of a stuttering mess where the hud would get cut off unless you played in 720p. Though first time players might not notice. I'm not sure how the Xbox port compares. I know it doesn't have the red shotgunners.

Unrelated. I'm looking for some cozy, sit back and drive/deliver type games. Like Eurotruck Simulator, Jalopy. or Derail Valley. Preferably with an objective or progression. The Long Drive is still too janky and unfinished. I've heard Snowrunners and Death Stranding fit the bill, but I don't know much about those games.

I only played a couple hours but Death Stranding does fit the bill, in my experience. Though, there are scary demon things and stealth elements, so it's not just a cozy/sit back kinda thing, but that's a big part of it and us fun.

I mainly dropped it because I was listening to a Kojima podcast and he was talking to someone in the industry about his game, and the guy basically said later you have to build roads and bridges and shit, which apparently is a chore offline. I didn't want to run into that problem too, but I'll still probably go back to it at some point.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, Civ series, M&B Warband had me like a drug for a while, when I was younger and had time to game more than a few hours a week.

The last one that really did it for me was Aerobiz. I played it on an emulator at the time. It was very disturbing how I forgot about time. Dangerous even.
So one day I came home from work, decided to play a SNES game and picked Aerobiz. No idea what it was. Tea is nice so I filled a saucepan with water and put it on the stove. Then I went and started playing. I stopped playing because I was parched, then I discovered that I had to be back at work soon, then I remembered the saucepan! The parts that hadn't blackened was glowing red.
That day at work was rough.

Aerobiz is a good game.

You can get the homefront series on steam for ~5$ Ive never played them myself but that seems like a good price to give them a try. Anybody got any other shooters to recommend? I just played through TF2's SP campaign again and it gave me an itch for sp shooters.

Since you said Homefront, I'm guessing your tastes are as much in the gutter as mine. I could post a novel's worth.

First place to start would be pretty much anything by Raven Software before they turned into a Call of Duty factory. Singularity, Quake 4, and the 2009 Wolfenstien are all very playable.

FEAR is also good, and I'm including FEAR 2 and 3 in that. The sequels get shit on, but they're fun. Fear 3 also has some fun co-op if you can find someone to play it with. It's a crime Fucking Run never became a staple co-op mode.

I'll also recommend NightDive's work. They've been remastering classic shooters like Turok 2 and Quake 2.

I could go on listing a bunch. Hard Reset, Judge Dredd vs Death, Legendary (aka Legendary: The Box), Timeshift, and Deadfall Adventures all fit the bill of mediocre or seriously flawed but fun shooters. Or you could play Doom 2016 and Robocop like normal people. It's up to you. (I've not played Robocop yet, but people seem to love it.)

I don't know how many older games would work on modern machines. I know Legendary needs a framerate limiter to stop you falling through the lift in the final stage, and I think Judge Dredd vs Death is limited in the resolutions you can use, and overlays like Steam and Discord crash the game.

And then there's the indies/boomer shooters like Dusk, Boltgun, Ion Fury, etc. I've not played most of them so can't comment, but again, most people seem to love them.
