Are videogames for children?

Bit out of nowhere, but; anyone happens to know what happened with Neopets, that old game? I heard the devs went woke or something a while back; haven't been able to keep up with the franchise in years, anyone got any info?

so what's the solution then, stop looking at deserts because they were better in the past? endlessly complain about it on a lolcow forum? find something else that's entertaining?

I mean you do you, I'll just enjoy some videogames in whatever form and size.
Probably the second one, bitch about it in the hopes it will get better and enjoy the scraps of good games in the meantime. Though the sacred cow of Indies always annoys me since it's just pure cope.
"indie" by it's meaning is "independently funded and/or published". A-AAA refers to the budget and who it comes from. technically you can blow 100 million to develop a videogame, then self-publish it and you're "indie" and "AAA" at the same time.

you can take "indie" as "everything that's not mass produced slop from the top 5 videogame companies" if it suits you better, but even that doesn't really man anything. unravel was published by EA, bastion was published by WB. rayman and it takes two are technically AA, yet created/published by ubisoft and EA. chink games from the outsourced sweatshops doing their own thing have borderline AAA assets while way less budget and aren't always published by a big company. heck these days all it takes to publish a videogame is pay valve 100 bucks to put it on steam...
I'm pretty sure most people hearing about Indie think about games from tiny studios of few people rather than a big work by several dozens/hundreds of people in a typical industry fashion, rather than the publishing part.

Tried out Hi-Fi Rush. Game is kino. Feels like something Platinum would have made if they had kept up their creative streak of '09-'13 instead of devolving into a mess that just reskins Bayo and MGR every year or two. Don't agree with people calling the writing cringe but that's pretty much up to personal taste. MC is like Travis Touchdown filtered through a good western cartoon and FLCL in the best way possible if you ask me.
Yeah. I've only played through the first level so far, but I really enjoyed myself. Even if I do kind of suck at timing the hits right.

I sometimes ask what really happened between Mafia II and Mafia III. It’s like I’m playing two different games, and the third one is a lot more violent and dark than compared to the second.

Little Big Planet for the PS3 is still a wonderful game after all these years, and if anything, I think it’s nice that it was ported to the PS VITA for its time.

planning to play Morrowind soon using OpenMW, any build recommendations for noob? I never actually played any boomer rpgs. oldest elder scrolls I've played was oblivion.
Yeah, skip OpenMW for a first playthrough. Just get the code patch and graphics extender. OpenMW changes a shit load of stuff. First run should be close to vanilla. OpenMW is an entirely new engine. The code patch and extender make it perfectly playable on modern systems.

I don't know how well that's going to work since I'm on linux.
Yeah, that might change your plans. Wine/PlayOnLinux? Its been a few years since I ran nix on anything but my home server. I managed to get a few games working good on an older gaming laptop with Mint, but that was a few years ago, and TES wasn't among them.

Surprised there isn't a Hifi Rush thread here. Finished it today, it's overall fun but kind of underwhelming once the cool factor wears off, the characters are way too stock and undeveloped, and the combat is too samey after you get into the groove of things. The game could have really used different weapons and a run option.

Edit: Also the forced parry sections are fucking terrible. Think of QTE sequences except they are not visualized and instead you need to memorize a multi button rhythm and output it flawlessly beat for beat for the game to advance for the next section.

Steam showed me some game which looked like an updated Dune 2, but with different names...can't remember the title...any idea Kiwis?

mods probably depends how they work. openmw runs natively, you could check how and where it differs from vanilla, then set it as close if possible.

it's not, but if you want to be nu-/v/ incarnate it's your wasted time and energy. I know because I was the same up a few years go.
yet even those fucks are able to talk about and enjoy new games, next fest starts on monday, lurk the threads to see what I mean.

how few? 5? 7? 11? what's the magical cut-off where indie stops being indie, even if it's self-funded? was minecraft an indie game?

almost like that label is completely meaningless these days....

This subforum has been steadily turning into nu-/v/ for a while now and it feels increasingly difficult to have any worthwhile discussion that isn't just "circular conversations about how terrible everything is where everyone just agrees with each other on barely lukewarm takes", just like what happened with /v/ back in the day. The only nails in the coffin we're still missing is people openly coomposting (since the mods would crack down on that pretty quick, thank fuck) or people regularly making throwaway threads (the advent of which has already started to happen to some degree).

Good thing there's always video games (or other forms of entertainment) to fall back on if people just want to circlejerk over being contrarian about everything.

nah, it's still good imo. this thread doesn't really have a topic so anything goes. the rest more or less stays on rails. throwaway threads just slide into the background, that always happens on every forum. I rather take that organic process over mods getting autistic with USE THE SEARCH FIRST MUH DUPLICATE THREAD.

what I mean with nu-/v/ is like the descartes quote about idiots. "back then" hating videogames was an ironic joke because it kept your expectations low, but you could still enjoy them. these days it's all about hating everything (granted, modern mainstream videogames are fucking shit, so it's the normal reaction), but even when it's acceptable or outright good. at some point enjoying videogames stopped being acceptable and retards took the "fun is a buzzword" literally.
besides, current /v/ usually only talks about the current FOTM/outrage anyway, anything in the middle or not mainstream doesn't get any attention. fuck I've seen that live with one of my mates who likes to constantly regurgitate /v/'s opinions without playing any of the games he's talking about. it's not even "agree to disagree", it's just fucking insufferable.

there are still some nuggets of gold in that turd, the next fest threads actually talk about videogames in an enthusiastic manner, with hardly any shitposting. might be that the games are not zoomer enough and "too indie" "not AAA enough" because MUH PIXELSHIT. same for offtopic threads, but that's true for every board. or the occasional non-containment /vg/ game that gets mentioned (usually ff14 and genshin).

I just said screw it and installed it on Windows and grabbed the two patches recommended earlier and atleast made sure it launches. I still don't know what is a good class/build for a first time player since these older rpgs can really screw you over if you don't know skills to pick.

The parts about mentioning BLM in this video, talking about Valve's business structure, feels absolutely forced in:

And given how long the BLM talk section was, it seem like the script writer also wanted to shoehorn in the Russia-Ukraine war conflict in too, given that Russians are a large part of DOTA 2's and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's player base. I could see the script absolutely chastizing Valve for still allowing Russians to play games on Steam, even saying that other game companies are based for banning Russians from playing them, i.e. Gran Turismo 7 and Pokémon GO. As of now, Russians can't purchase anything on Steam due to sanctions, unless they use workarounds to bypass them, but can still play their purchased games on Steam.
