As someone who never played ASSFAGGOTS before, whats the appeal? If I wanted to try one should I go for DOTA or League?

Since League will be getting the invasive spyware that as branded as an "anti-cheat" called Vanguard (which is not related to the DEI/BRIDGE/whatever it's called now investment firm), DOTA would probably be the way to go. But prepare your ass, as you will get it shoved, A LOT.

i recently dug sword art online: fatal bullet out of my steam backlog and had a decent amount of fun with it. i particularly enjoyed the combat & collecting/enhancing weapons. do any of the other SAO games follow this formula? as far as i can tell, they do not. anyone have suggestions for similar games? i've already played the crap out of all the borderlands games, but i might revisit those anyways since it's been a while

If you're into emulation, Dino Crisis 2 and maybe Parasite Eve 2 might appeal to you. They don't have the upgrading (not directly anyway) but the process of killing enemies to get money to buy weapons is an addictive one.

Bit of an odd recommendation, but The Surge and The Surge 2 are Dark Souls clones. The big selling point is that you target specific limbs, and if you manage to cut off said limb, you get the loot from that limb, which is usually weapons, armour plans, or upgrade materials.

A couple more odd recommendations. Dead Effect and Resident Evil Revelations 2. Dead Effect 1 and 2 are phone ports, seemingly made of stock assets, but the entire game is a gear grind. At least Dead Effect 2 is, I've not played Dead Effect 1 in a long time. Resident Evil Revelations 2 has a side game called Raid Mode that is basically the same thing. It's a character and gear grind combined with a score attack. It's great fun, but requires playing the campaign to unlock all the levels, and the campaign isn't good. I recommend playing it on easy since you get the unlocks anyway.

I can recommend the Surge. I bounced off of Surge 2 hard though, the atmosphere just felt like a large step down.

Correct on Dino Crisis 2 and Parasite Eve 2.

Finished Infernax, fun game with some surprising non adherence to modern sensibilities (no bullshit misunderstood undead/demon). The biggest issue is how slow it is, which makes the difficulty more aggrevating due to needing to backtrack than challenging. I wish the game hasn't cheapened out on checkpoints so it could have done better harder difficulty bosses and platforming. Actually fuck modern 2D platforming, just as bad as Uncharted in being a disguised QTE.

Watched a couple of YouTube videos by some faggots throwing out ideas for a Superman game and I have to ask why do these fucks ALWAYS insist on depowering Superman as the first order of business?

>he shouldn't be too strong or too fast
>he shouldn't be shrugging off human weaponry, too overpowered
>otherwise every regular thug should be packing kryptonite weaponry so they can be a threat

MOTHERFUCKER DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHO SUPERMAN IS? The entire appeal of playing as Superman is being a walking demigod that regular humans can't even dream of hurting. If you can't imagine making trolling regular criminals as an invincible, super-strong, super-fast cape hero fun then you have zero creativity. It shouldn't even matter if enemies are packing kryptonite weapons since Superman should be fast enough to disable them before they can react anyway.

Part of what made Superman interesting was his try-to-save-everybody approach. The idea shouldn't really be combat-focused, it should be more strategy-focused.

There should be a way for you to gain a significant way into the game just by sprinting for the exit in every scenario and not bothering to save anybody before getting the worst ending as the game lectures you on what a heartless bastard you are.

I tried Primehack, a customized version of Dolphin emulator that does some specialized remapping to make Metroid Prime play like a modern FPS game, either with controller or mouse and keyboard, along with some other game-specific tweaks.

It really works well and I'm impressed, except for the default button mapping. Switching weapons or visors defaults to combinations of the 'E' key and various other keys while playing mouse and keyboard.

It's easy enough to fix, but I just marvel at what catastrophic levels of autism must've led to such an idiotic decision. You have like 80-some keys at minimum for a game that was originally mapped for a Gamecube controller. There's no need to start doubling up on functionality.

Any recommendations on horror/survival horror games? Looking at new releases and seeing a constant stream of haunted house walking sims is disheartening. I'll probably try those Daymare: 1998 games, heard they were alright, but I'm interested if anybody's played anything good recently.

Nightmare of Decay is good, basically just an homage to RE1 but first person.

Tormented Souls

Signalis

Amnesia Bunker was pretty good

The Chant, not really horror but has elements of cosmic horror on level with a cheesy B-movie while also feeling like a weird 3rd entry to the team's work (bully>sleeping dogs>the chant)

The Forest/Sons of the Forest, survival craft em ups on deserted islands with cannibals, some bugs but very feature packed and very high quality for what is overall a very janky genre.

Green Hell is similar to above but I prefer Forest

Nightmare of decay is a first person survival horror that has no atmosphere and tons of silly references but solid mechanics, after you beat the short campaign you have tons of bonus modes to enjoy

I think I've shilled it already here, but Darkwood really is that good if you haven't played it yet. Survival horror, great story, brilliant visual design and soundscape, I still stand by it being one of the best horror games made the past couple years if not ever, don't think there's anything quite like it. (also has a public torrent up uploaded by the developers, isn't the latest patch, but functionally almost the same)

Something that might not be as good but still is what I'd consider to be a flawed gem is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (2005), there's a newer one with a similar name but I haven't played it and I think it plays very differently. This recommendation to take it with a grain of salt, it's been a while since I played it and it might just be my nostalgia goggles talking.

About a week ago, Soter Dave, an English content creator and prominent member of the Chivalry 2 community, took his own life. There's some minor drama regarding him; mainly that he posted a YouTube video showcasing a cheater in action, which resulted in the developer (Torn Banner) permanently banning him instead of the cheater. He had built up a nice small channel of around 10,000 subs and really loved Chivalry. Of course, there's some anger on Reddit from people accusing the devs of killing him, but it's more a sad story of a guy struggling financially, cut off from his favorite game, left with nothing else. Feels bad man. A fundraiser was established which has reached around $6,000, so at least his funeral costs are covered.

It's a problem you see a lot really, everyone trying to fit everything into the same mold on some level.
>Uhh how do I make an Arkham Asylum about him?
>I know I make him on par with Batman!

When in reality anything of the sort is just barking up the wrong tree. Try different genres, scale the threat and opposition differently, or do what the above poster said and build objectives around his personality where you must think and make the right choices to get the best outcome. I could see something like an adventure game working well for a lot of this since that moves the challenge away from having to somehow shoehorn fighting mooks into it.

Yeah I always thought that if you wanted to take inspiration for a Superman game from anything, you should be taking inspiration from games like Prototype/Infamous and not the freaking Arkham series. And mind you, I enjoy the Arkham series but that style of gameplay is completely wrong for a flying tank.

An adventure game would just piss off most fans since what people want is specifically a game about fighting crime as Superman.

You're probably on the money that an adventure game or something like that would be the hardest to pull off if the context is that he'd have all his power at their fullest, I think it's just the easiest to pull off. Infamous and Prototype are examples of how you could do it, but the stumbling block I get to personally there is that I don't know what'd be a good setup that wouldn't force you to break character while also providing you with a satisfying gameplay challenge. Not saying it can't be done, I'm sure someone smarter and more well-versed in the fiction than me could pull it off. All they gotta do is stop trying to put the square peg into that round hole.
