Are videogames for children?

Just got to Act 3 of Ghost of Tsushima and I think I'm hitting the point where I'm mostly tired of the collectibles and will just be focusing on the remaining missions/strongholds. Still have the expansion to play after I finish the story, and then I'm planning to hop into Call of Juarez: Gunslinger for a shorter game and a change of genre.

Anyone playing Sparking Zero? I kinda want to get it to go online but idk if it's worth the day 1 price, and anime games tend to have a reputation of being janky trash.

It's very much middle of the road. Not awful, but not great and it gets repetitive pretty quick. Enjoyment seems to hinge on whether or not you like the art style and story or not.
I see, that's basically the impression I got. I don't really don't need another just okay game in the backlog, thanks.

Valkyria Chronicles as a franchise is weird and I don't like how it prioritizes rushing missions as quickly as possible when my first inclination is to be careful and strategic. I say this having played 1, 2 3 and 4 because I enjoy the setting and general aesthetic. I wish they'd fuck off with the ranking system being the deciding factor for money/upgrades so I could take my time.
That sounds miserable, too bad because the rest seems great.

Electronic Arts' Alexa Ray Corriea, wants a shirt from Alyssa Mercante's tweet to show how much she hates gamers and how much gamers are bigots. Why do EA hire shitheads like her?

EDIT: She's under protection and blocking mode. Might be using chain blocks after finding out. But she does have a Linktree.

With these types of "creatives," whether they be narrative designers or journalists or otherwise, they feel like the medium / subject of video games as a whole is beneath them and view it as a stepping stone to something more illustrious or "respectable." Specifically this tends to be the case with the current (and recently current) generations. People like Tim Caine or Josh Sawyer or Chris Avellone know exactly what the medium is and their aptitude for it, which is why they're legends within the industry. People like Sawyer may be relentless shitlibs in their personal lives, but you don't see them taking a dump on the medium or the people who play their games. The "I'm better than this, and therefore better than you" mentality that is so prevalent in games development is entirely nurtured by those who run the business side of things. Introducing a new perspective isn't a bad thing, but when that perspective is explicitly hostile to the product and those who consume it then there's a problem, as we're bearing witness to now.

Anyhow, went and picked up my CRT yesterday. Was pleased to discover the built in VCR is going strong, but since it's an older model the inputs can't be switched via the front panel buttons. After a quick trip to the hardware store to buy a universal remote I hooked in the xbox and fired up Halo 2. I was amazed at the rose colored glasses I had on, or maybe my eyesight has gotten really bad in the past twenty years, but it was really difficult to read the HUD and make out a lot of finer details.

Other than that, it's all groovy. The console powers on just fine, and although the previous owner tried to clear out as much data as possible, their savegames and XBL profile information is still on the drive. Feels cozy and kind of sad, like a snapshot into a past life during simpler times. Still haven't removed the clock capacitor, I'll probably do that sometime this next week.

Cool!

You can try some contact cleaner on the front panel, and see if that fixes the buttons, if that doesn't work, well, having some cleaner around never hurts.

Hello, I havent posted in this thread in a while so heres a few things that happened while I was gone. Hopefully I dont post something that someone has already talked about.
Call Of Duty has had a shitton of stuff released for it regarding unreleased prototypes.
this one is the popular one that everyones talking about which is the COD game developed by neversoft.
a proto for Ryse: Son of Rome for the pc was found, no EXE but assets are still there.
speaking of tomb raider, rise of the tomb raider proto
just in time for spooky season, the evil within.

and the moment you have all been waiting for
a half life prototype that was released on the 20th of september, some changes are documented here but there has been some helpful yt videos that have been released on the subject within this week and the last iirc.
also this half life mod fucking rocks too keep on a look out for this one

I would post more updates regarding interesting games but I DFE'd a handful of things to clear up some space and cleared out some emails recently as well, this is why there hasnt been many updates.
Fallout 2 EcCo mod still is being updated, the developer is currently grabbing feedback so he can possibly do another update as when I was reading through the patch notes he included a list of what he might want to add in the future, along with grabbing general feedback as to what people think of his mod.
re.PNG
Fallout 4's attachment pack got another content update.

Fallout new vegas had some new mods come out this year that were interesting, heres a compilation of that
another new vegas mod that came out that isnt completely terrible is this quest mod, introduces certain mechanics and scenarios I havent really seen been done in a vanilla setting.
before I dfe'd there was quite a large handful of updates still being made to Brutal Doom's newest version its not coming out soon, but it should still come out sometime next year most likely.
This mod is a Doom 2 mod that essentially makes Doom 2 like Doom 2 64 lol
speaking of confusing titles heres another doom mod that touts itself like its a sequel to doom 2 as it is doom 3 but in original doom I think? I dont know I havent looked into this one too much admittedly.
vampire the masquerade mod for skyrim got an update this year ( yes I remain optimistic about mod releases ): )

og silent hill 2 had a FPS mod release

These round-up posts are much appreciated, actually one of the main ways that I get info about videogame prototypes and such.

I understand the appeal and I respect the vision of this mod, but man, the game looks muddy, shitty, and somehow even more incoherent than the original Doom 2. The textures just do not fit with Doom 2's mapping style at all.

So whatever happened with New World? I notice the re-release is hitting consoles tomorrow, but I can't find anyone that's terribly excited about it.

I was amazed at the rose colored glasses I had on, or maybe my eyesight has gotten really bad in the past twenty years, but it was really difficult to read the HUD and make out a lot of finer details.
It could also be the age of the display?

I fail to see why people are excited for this. They censored the previous remaster, and this one has 2 games nobody liked. I also heard the Netflix series is a complete mess as well.

I've been wanting to grab one of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games as of late, but I'm unsure of which one; asked back in July of this year, but I was wanting a second opinion.

I know a lot of people are stating that I should be grabbing SOC, as it apparently has the better atmosphere, but I'm unsure as I've yet to play both myself, obviously. From what I have heard, COP is apparently smoother and has more features - I know Emissions are a thing, was a BIG fan of DayZ's Namalsk map back in the day - but has a weaker story, if that's right? Meanwhile, SOC has a stronger survival atmosphere.

To be clear, I'm honestly just looking for a game to just "unwind" on after beating it; pick it up and just travel the post-apocalypse-style Zone, collecting Artifacts, hunting mutants, doing quests, that sort of thing. I admit, I'm a casual with a fondness for "vibes" more than anything.

Any suggestions, for any of the games? It's going to be downloaded on PS5 console, so... I don't think I'm going to be able to grab any mods.

there's hope they add the cut content to AoD and untangle the mess. it's faint, but still...

I'd start with the first one just to see the way the series developed, but I'm a purist, so...
not sure how jank the ps5 version is in recreating the cheeky breeky original.

I've taken a look at some reviews elsewhere, and I've read that SOC is pretty glitchy; apparently, the game's got a tendency to freeze, stutter, crash, and generally be unplayable if you have too many save files, for instance. Granted, you can't trust everything on the internet, and I have no idea how the game is myself, especially compared to the other games, so...

There are games with cut content, and then there is AoD. It's also the only game that I remember in a shelf at a walmart, with a big ass sticker telling everyone to put their PS2's bios in english or the game won't work, and in fact, the game enters a boot loop in the very first loading screen if french or spanish is selected

Working my way through the Ghost of Tsushima DLC after 100%ing the main story. Thinking my next "main" game after I finish this may be Terminator: Resistance. Anyone have thoughts on it?

Fantastic little game. Rough around the edges, and a bit repetitive towards the end, but the team behind it clearly have more passion and love for the franchise than any post T3 shit. I'd hesitate at full price, but definitely go for it otherwise.

I recommend getting CoP; SoC feels really outdated and is a buggy mess.
