Speaking of remasters, was about to say that Spyro is cozy; 10-12 mins to 100% each level. Then I got into a trolley segment and it's like 6 minutes on rails with insta-death and no checkpoints. Fucked off after that.
Please don't tell me that you actually unironically got troubled by the trolley.

Doing a seasonal retro run right now. It's October, so I decided to revisit all the 2D Castlevania games from Symphony of the Night all the way to the DS lines. There are some blemishes with the touch control and other trends of their specific eras, but the games hold up amazingly well. Been a blast to play so far. Would highly recommend this if you want something for the spooky season that's a bit more digestible than some of the usual horror classics. They're just a barrel of fun, simple as.
I think Portrait of Ruin is the height of the handheld 'vanias and tons of fun. Is Order of Ecclesia just very hard or do i just suck at video games?
There's four games - Travis Strikes Again came between 2 and 3 - and opinions vary wildly on which of the sequels are good or best, but the consensus is that none of them come close to the first.
IMO, TSA and 3 are decent, with 2 being the standout worst, but they're all worth playing at least once.
Been meaning to try out the series since forever because i am a huge Suda 51 fan. Initially skipped them because of bullshit wagglan', skipped out on so many Wii games in general because of the motion controls, i hate that shit with a passion.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream got a "Definitive Update" so now all my saves are gone and the game runs like shit since one of the CPU threads is always at 100%.

Truly "definitive" experience.

Isn't the original able to run in ScummVM? That would've been my first choice.

This is the reason the only newer games I've played lately were PC autism simulators. Sailwind, Railroader, Captain of Industry, Stormworks, and Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts. I feel like @Null might enjoy Captain of Industry. Cool Factorio-ish game with a lite exploration factor, and I quite like the terrain system. I've been burying pipes like mad since I learned I could.

Captain of Industry sounded kind of cool in the fact that it had more "real" stuff to build than Factorio (which usually just ends in science packs, no matter the raw ingredients) and farms that produce real stuff rather than just alien fruits that somehow can be made into metals or plastic with enough processing.

But the maps are also limited, the survival aspect doesn't appeal to me, and adding DLC while the game is still in early access all rubs me the wrong way. It's also as expensive as Factorio is now.

Yes, the game can still be run with ScummVM.

To be honest, before the update, I could simply press "Play" in the launcher and it would automatically run the game in ScummVM. A day after the update, I realized it was still possible to run it that way since the launcher was still included on the game's folder.

No you're correct it's definitely the hardest of the DS era Castlevania titles.

Your offensive tools are a lot weaker than what Soma or the Twins from POR had and bosses do a fuck ton of damage.

Some of them like the big Frankenstein guy from the second? Stage I think even have delay attacks to trip you up.

I'm quick to pull the plug, but still. Seeing how easy most of the content is to just then.. rustle jimmies on this one niche fucking thing. It's day and night. But yet, I'd rather bust my balls on this for 2 hours than give up on Spyro.

Maybe another few shots will give me the motivation..

Definitly gave me flashbacks to the NES Castlevanias of my childhood, tried to finish it multiple times but always got too frustrated very early on in the game. It's a shame, mechanic-wise and graphically it's top notch.

I grabbed it on a lark while browsing cs forums. It was kind of iffy at first, but grab the COI-Extended mod and give it another go. I still don't know if I'd buy it, but it has been diverting. I seem to do less "spaghetti building" than I do in most factory games. I don't get lost in my own builds quite so much. And I quite like the limited space of the islands, because thats kind of the point. Its called land reclamation, fella! If the Chinese can do it IRL, I can do it in a game. I learned you shouldn't rush in this game. If you run out of space, you are probably expanding too fast. Careful planning and land reclamation.

I have restarted quite a few times to learn the lesson, so I do get what your saying, though. Also, try the map editor, its pretty good. I made a huge flat testbed/sandbox island to experiment with builds, and COI-Extended has a "creative mode" that was really helpful. They also have a "hub" where you can grab shared blueprints, which is also pretty helpful for learning to manage limited space. I've only just gotten started with trains, despite having the research done for a while, so I'll probably start fresh again next time I play. But, I've been hooked on Stormworks recently, so it may be a while.

I only really have time to really play games during the colder months when work slows down. I tend to pirate most of the year away, and buy the shit I actually liked during the seasonal steam sales. So, I only started dicking around with Stormworks a couple weeks ago, for about 8 hours total. I'm pretty hooked, though. One of the best building systems in a game I've ever seen. The microcontroller system is crazy powerful/versatile. Its intimidating at first, but hella fun. I've been using steamcmd to grab workshop stuff. Its fun customizing/tweaking vehicles from the workshop, learning the ropes, so to speak. There's gold in that thar' workshop. And I've still barely scratched the surface, gameplay wise. I've only really done a few coastguard/firefighting/service/"sawyer" missions so far, and they've all been pretty fun.

I had to rescue 5 campers from a burning campervan in the mountains of an island last night with a warning of a bear spotted nearby. I basically crashed my SAR VTOL (undercarriage needs fixed, but it'll still fly, damnit!) into the camper, almost died fighting the fire because I forgot to equip my firefighter armor, and then a fucking bear killed the last camper and I of course forgot to recharge the defibrillator on my VTOL! I loved it. Great autistic fun. 8/10 REEEs. Would rage again!

It kind of, almost, felt like the early days of KSP. Like the feeling you got the first time you sent that grinning idiot Jeb merrily to his glorious violent death atop a tower of bargain rocket parts, duct tape, and hope. That's a gamer feel I be will chasing again. I will catch that fucking dragon, and I will make it my bitch.

That's getting bought this winter sale, for sure.

I've always wondered how much of that is a meme or not. Given enough time obviously, but I think it's rare for professionally mastered discs that weren't abused with heat and light.
It's a known problem with specific batches of discs that were manufactured with bad materials:
“They curdle like milk”: WB DVDs from 2006–2008 are rotting away in their cases (archive)

But you would expect there to be more dead DVDs after 40-50 years. "Physical media" is just a fancy looking digital backup subject to eventual decay. I think Blu-ray technology is considered more reliable than DVDs, at least.

Killzone 2
I've never understood the hype surrounding Killzone 2 or why some people talk about it as if it were such a revolutionary game. Sure, to be fair, I played it years after its release and I don't know how it fares against other shooters of the time, but judging it on its own, without comparisons, it feels like just another generic shooter among a sea of generic shooters. The only notable thing about it is the Hellghasts aesthetic and how comically evil the "good guys" are.

I'll probably play it again some day, I just need to fix my sixasis.

I was interested in Ball X Pit before it blew up, they had a banger of a teaser trailer six months ago. It didn't quite turn out how I thought it would(I thought there was a moving castle segment) but it had the Devolver name so I knew it would be gucci. Hanging onto some global high scores, spergs are getting competitive. It's funny they wasted time adding a twitch chat vote for upgrades feature and the big streamers like Moist and asmon aren't using it.

Been watching OneyPlays and they're doing Fear and Hunger 2, and now I am interested. The only thing that is making me hesitate is:
1) Weird ass sex stuff and sexual violence
Find it strange that dicks are out all the time and rape is not exactly uncommon. I get it's suppose to make you feel uneasy and what you're going against are basically monsters and demons but still, that doesn't mean I am ok with it. You have to use these things carefully since it just comes off as a fetish otherwise.
2) Caved to trannies
I understand there is a character who originally was forced to be a girl but this was retconned during the beta because trannies bitched. Basically a Bridget situation. Supposedly he is also the best character in the game from what I heard.

Despite this, is it even worth getting? I am craving a horror game and the F&H seems pretty spooky otherwise. If not do you have any recommendations?
I just finished FAITH and it was ok. Wasn't really scary nor did it make me feel uneasy, so the itch is still there. The rotoscope Atari animations were cool at least.

If the horrific Lovecraftian monsters having their cocks out bothers you that much Fear and Hunger 2 has a SFW patch that is easily found with a two second Google search.
