I don't hang out at the local game stores. They're staffed by neckbeards that are constantly pressuring you to spend money. A lot of the players there are social justice warriors that I don't want to be around. They have 6 tables with full sets of terrain, but 9 times out of 10, someone has pushed the terrain to the side and is using the table to play MTG. The in-store prices for models is higher than just ordering it online, and in this area, you can get same/next day shipping on most GW products due to the proximity to multiple Amazon warehouses. The only thing I ever use them for are when I need an single pot of paint, and half the time they don't have what I'm looking for outside of their Citadel paints, and I wouldn't use Citadel paint if it was free. If you try to bring in a 3d printed model to play with, or if they catch you talking about 3d printing with other customers, they will ban you. I know everyone's local gaming shops are probably unique, but all the ones around me suck, and I'd rather not play the game if it means having to play with them.
I don't understand why anyone would play outside of their friend group if their stores are like this. Regardless of how fun the game is, it doesn't justify spending 3-6 hours hanging out with a bunch of faggots that would hate you if you gave them the chance. Even then, my friends have lost a lot of their drive to play and keep up with rules updates since the female custodes retcon. They aren't based, but we left other tabletop games for 40k specifically because they were going woke. They can see the writing on the wall and don't want to keep dedicating time and money to something that's starting to get gay. We're having conversations about reverting to an old edition, or just never moving forward when 11th edition eventually comes out.
