A while ago I spoke about other IPs getting into it like Starcraft. Can you imagine the money Blizzard would make if they put their IPs on the tabletop? Or Bethesda with Elder Scrolls? The DnD crowd would go nuts thats for sure, let alone tabletop players.
Elder Scrolls Call to Arms(not the skyrim board game) already failed in 2019. To be fair it did get fucked by covid, however it never recovered and as of February they're switching it to stl releases and print on demand
Starcraft by Archon Studios got announced back in March

At the end of the day, it'll have the same problem that the Elder Scrolls game did, or the Star Trek games(there has been at least 2, the older release from the 2010s that had a giant borg cube as part of the lineup, and the more recent 2024 version), or that the Halo game is going to run into, and on and on. They're licensed products which limits the number of releases they can create without having to release a bunch of alternate poses and outfits like AMG has to do with Star Wars and even MCP(at least with MCP it's much more acceptable and there's a million alt versions of characters to use, but they have other licensing problems preventing reprints for additional runs of product that has left people walking out of stores empty handed). There's been plenty of others over the past couple of decades, but most of the time a licensed game has a limited shelf life.

The difference in the remaster are subtle, but I think it's fine. Necron warriors have the most obvious improvement. I think we all know that people are going to be playing Unification or Apocalypse mod anyways which all use custom assets. Getting the game to run properly on modern machines and fixing desynch issues is really all I could ask for. I'd rather them not mess with an already good game. Better they make DoW4 if they want to try messing with the formula again.
I was looking at that mod. Hopefully they can port it over to the remaster/definitive edition.

I'm guessing theyre for resin printers? Ive seen their models and I absolutely agree. Top stuff. Any other recommendations? Ive got a few more stl stores bookmarked for when my non-resin printer finally arrives and the quality really is out there, they just need a widely accepted or played set of rules to truly challenge GW.
Yeah, they're for resin printing. There aren't too many creators out there for tabletop that are explicitly FDM. Even the ones that are creating scenery are trying to accommodate larger resin printers now. The following are all dedicated resin printing, but definitely worth bookmarking for the future...

Anvil Industries (Anvil Digital Forge on MMF) - Great modular kits. Not much in the way of historical stuff, but they do some great modern day/post-apocalyptic kits. If you're into the likes of Zona Alfa these are a go to.

Knucklebones Miniatures - Oldhammer inspired and general weird shit. Great for Mordheim.

Imitation Of Life - Post-apocalyptic stuff again. Very characterful sculpts. I wouldn't say Oldhammer specifically, but they're very much in a similar vein to 90s GW. Great for Necromunda.

Saint Decent - One of the good sculptors for Trench Crusade. Her MMF is a bit dead at the moment, but her skeleton army and Dark Souls looking stuff is kino. Some good conversion bits in there too.

Hardcore Miniatures - Used to be exclusively physical, cast resin stuff, but recently moved over to digital. Some great Oldhammer style Squats and Orks, amongst other things.

Stansilav Kuznetsov/Onmioji Miniatures - A bit of everything here. Again, more Oldhammer inspired than ultra-realistic.

Oshounaminis - Alternative 'Nids and Necrons. Doesn't sound particular awe inspiring on the face of it, but some really unique designs. Very talented sculptor. Some of those alternative 'Nid models are fucking huge.

Tesseract Tomb - The one exception to the rule and one of the few creators that leans more towards FDM printing. Lots of nice industrial terrain here. He's done a few resin pieces in the past (mainly vehicles and scatter terrain).

Vae Victis Miniatures - More contemporary in looks than most of the stuff I've listed, but an extensive collection of fantasy minis/scatter terrain. A good resource for fantasy/medieval NPCs. Great for Mordheim, though you might have to scale things down a little.

Thats just a few off the top of my head!

Lets be fair though, FDM printing for minis is pretty shit. Even with a .2mm nozzle(which makes the print times slower) the quality is still pretty crap with layer lines alone, and that's before getting into anything involving overhangs and needing supports if you aren't printing scifi tanks(bricks) or something equally large.

As far as the FDM terrain guys supporting larger printers, it makes sense. There's been FDM terrain options for years at this point and you can get just about whatever you could possibly want(scifi bunkers, medieval castles, roman forts, etc.) for a smaller print area. Everything from static pieces to modular hallways.

True. I've seen some wizardry done with FDM by the likes of Tomb of 3D Printed Horrors, but to be honest; life is to short to be messing around with that shit. I think by the time you've made compromises on the material you're using and the print time, you may as well just go out and buy a resin printer. Even a first gen resin printer is going to shit on whatever you can get out of an FDM machine as far as minis are concerned, no matter how much tweaking you do.

Wargames Atlantic are top tier. Definitely in my top 10 mini manufacturers.

The STLs they put out are very good too. I think they've only released their minis in digital format for about 3 years and they already have 400+ kits to choose from.
I hear their Quar series is a fun wargame that takes it back to WW... 2? type battles but replaces humans with some sort of vaugely blob shaped cartoon people.

Beats Tryhard Crusade, anyway.

Quar is kino. very fun to play and very goofy art style. They are meant to be Ant Eaters. I would recommend people picking up the starter set. And yes it beats trans trooningtons BASED AND RED PILLED trench crusade, playing trench crusade is full blown mental illness enjoying Quar is based.

I found my favorite quote from the Horus heresy.
"lord Angron," said Eidolon reasonably, 'you speak out of turn-'
'Hold your tongue in the presence of your betters,' snarled Angron. 'I know what you Emperor's Children think of us, but you mistake our directness for stupidity. Speak to me again without my consent and I will kill you.'

just a great line from the primarch of the best legion

another one from Horus Rising
“Who’s the commander here?’ a voice demanded.

‘I am,’ said Torgaddon, swinging round. Flanked by a dozen of the Emperor’s Children, the tall, proud figure of Lord Eidolon crunched towards them across the fuming white slag.

‘I am Eidolon,’ he said, facing Torgaddon.

‘Torgaddon.’

‘Under the circumstances,’ Eidolon said, ‘I’ll understand if you don’t bow.’

‘I can’t for the life of me imagine any circumstances in which I would,’ Torgaddon replied.
Eidolon’s bodyguards wrenched out their combat blades.

‘What did you say?’ demanded one.

‘I said you boys should put those pig sticks away before I hurt somebody with them.’

Eidolon raised his hand and the men sheathed their swords. ‘I appreciate your intervention, Torgaddon, for the situation was grave. Also, I understand that the Luna Wolves are not bred like proper men, with proper manners. So I’ll overlook your comment.”

“That’s Captain Torgaddon,’ Torgaddon replied. ‘If I insulted you, in any way, let me assure you, I meant to.’

‘Face to face with me,’ Eidolon growled, and tore off his helm, forcing his genehanced biology to cope with the atmosphere and the radioactive wind. Torgaddon did the same. They stared into each other’s eyes.

Tarvitz watched the confrontation in mounting disbelief. He’d never seen anyone stand up to Lord Eidolon.

The pair were chestplate to chestplate, Eidolon slightly taller. Torgaddon seemed to be smirking.

‘How would you like this to go, Eidolon?’ Torgaddon inquired. ‘Would you, perhaps, like to go home with your head stuck up your arse?’

‘You are a base-born cur,’ Eidolon hissed.

‘Just so you know,’ replied Torgaddon, ‘you’ll have to do an awful lot better than that. I’m a base-born cur and proud of it. You know what that is?’

He pointed up at one of the stars above them.

‘A star?’ asked Eidolon, momentarily wrong-footed.

‘Yes, probably. I haven’t the faintest idea. The point is, I’m the designated commander of the Luna Wolves speartip, come to rescue your sorry backsides. I do this by warrant of the Warmaster himself.

He’s up there, in one of those stars, and right now he thinks you’re a cretin. And he’ll tell Fulgrim so, next time he meets him.’

‘Do not speak my primarch’s name so irreverently, you bastard. Horus will–'

There you go again,’ Torgaddon sighed, pushing Eidolon away from him with a two-handed shove to the lord’s breastplate. ‘He’s the Warmaster.’ Another shove. ‘The Warmaster. Your Warmaster. Show some cursed respect.’

Eidolon hesitated. ‘I, of course, recognise the majesty of the Warmaster.’

‘Do you? Do you, Eidolon? Well, that’s good, because I’m it. I’m his chosen instrument here. You’ll address me as if I were the Warmaster. You’ll show me some respect too! Warmaster Horus believes you’ve made some shit-awful mistakes in your prosecution of this theatre. How many brothers did you drop here? A company? How many left? Serghar? Head count?’

‘Thirty-nine live ones, Tarik,’ the vox answered. ‘There may be more. Lots of body piles to dig through.’

‘Thirty-nine. You were so hungry for glory you wasted more than half a company. If I was… Primarch Fulgrim, I’d have your head on a pole. The Warmaster may yet decide to do just that. So, Lord Eidolon, are we clear?’

‘We…’ Eidolon replied slowly, ‘… are clear, captain.’

‘Perhaps you’d like to go and undertake a review of your forces?’ Torgaddon suggested. ‘The enemy will be back soon, I’m sure, and in greater numbers.'

Eidolon gazed venomously at Torgaddon for a few seconds and then replaced his helm. ‘I will not forget this insult, captain,’ he said.

‘Then it was worth the trip,’ Torgaddon replied, clamping on his own helmet.”

There is going to be a remaster of the original Dawn of War games. The original plus the expansion campaigns.

It looks pretty good. Some people are saying they can't see a different but with the video in full screen I can see a difference. It's not huge but it's there. I wonder if they might do console ports of this. I would play it on the Switch. But I would want a physical copy.
DOW's Necrons make me wistful, back when they were creepy and unknowable and not merely humans with advanced technology. Hell, Squats are more alien.

I don't totally dislike their modern lore. They can be interesting. But I hate how they have to be scaled back as an endgame threat because otherwise nothing would ever happen, or the galaxy would be dead. That and no one can decide how reanimation fucking works. Sometimes they are immortals being that, even if you destroyed their bodies, will reanimate in the nearest tomb. Sometimes they just fucking die and they lose entire legions of warriors and immortals.

“I really doubt that. Which one of you is Alpharius?”
“I am,” said Alpharius.
“Very well, let me rephrase the question,” said Grammaticus. “Which one of you is the Primarch?”
Alpharius smiled. “I think it’s high time we started asking the questions, John.”

:story:

You wanna know what’s funny about Torgaddon’s takedown? That shit spread through the SoH and is still spoken of with respect and pride by z-list SoH, near the end of the Heresy.

‘I’d expect nothing less from a brash Cthonian bastard,’ Eidolon said, and yawned. ‘You have the honour of addressing Eidolon, Lord Commander Primus of the Third Legion.’
‘A pretty title. Did you invent it yourself?’
Eidolon let himself chuckle at that. The sound reverberated around the bridge and made his subordinates wince. Transhumans had joined the debased mortals now. His chosen captains presented themselves as they became aware of the brewing confrontation, recognising that a show of force was required. An insult to one was an insult to all.
‘You were the one Torgaddon humbled, were you not?’ Gherog continued.
‘Murder was a long time ago,’ Eidolon slurred. Despite himself he was having fun with this one. ‘And I have been proven the superior warrior. After all, when Torgaddon’s head came off, he did not get back up again. I did.’
‘Another gift of your gods?’
‘Amongst other things,’ Eidolon said. ‘The galaxy changes by the day. Life and death are no longer as they once were. The Phoenician has shown us as much. Just as I’m sure the Warmaster has shown you.’

Isn't it dependent on their location and status of the closest ally tomb? Basically if they are too far or the tomb is too damaged then the process fails and they die a permanent death.
Did he exist before the heresy books? Fun asshole character anyways. EC have absolute gems during the heresy:
‘He wants to be left alone,’ said Fulgrim. ‘To shoot off into the stars and hunt down xenos on those delightful jetbikes. They’re devilishly fast.I heard from a contact on Mars, Jaghatai, that you do strange things to your ships.’ The Khan shot him a heavy-lidded stare. ‘I heard you do strange things to your warriors.’

Eidolon’s only pre-HH novel “appearance” was one of the “Visions of Heresy” art pieces where he looked like he was ready to kill Apollo Creed

I really like how him and Mortarion both went full Captain Ahab in hunting the mischievous chinaman. Eidolon fully believed he could take him and there’s a funny “fake” Fulgrim vs “fake” Khan fight in Path of Heaven, where Eidolon drops a one-liner and teleports in, sees the biggest motherfucker and immediately goes ham.

Whats the consensus on Grey Knight refresh or not?

Throwing my hat into the ring to say it probably wont happen at all.
- Most of the range is plastic
- There are lore reasons not to Primaris them
- Not popular enough
- Space Marine but not generic like intercessors to sell to 10 armies.

Im starting to think that both GK and IF (who are getting something around that time) are getting characters in plastic and thats it at this stage. GK players will continued to be edged on the prospect.

They kind of remind me of Terminator T-800's. The wiki says they are alien humanoid skeletal robots. If they are aliens and robots, it makes me wonder who built them and why did they use a humanoid configuration?

I don't know much about the lore other than basic stuff. I just play the games.

I'd say they will, maybe not any time soon but they will.
Their range is pathetically small, a termie kit, a marine kit, a baby carrier, and 4 characters. Its unfortunate that they fall under the space marine umbrella, its probably the main reason the only love they've seen in years has been Castellan Crowe and the new weapon for the dreadknight.

according to stat-check.com they have a larger player count than Space wolves, Deathwatch, Black templars, Imperial Agents, Sisters of battle, Mechanicus, Thousands sons, Genestealers, and Deldar.
