Unironically, the Eldar Corsairs may be one of the best "your dudes" around in the setting, shame FFG never made the RPG they planned for them.

You got people who are as free (in fact, more) than a Rogue Trader, who also live longer, have better tech, and are stronger. Most adventures you can have with an RT can be done with a Corsair.

The thing is simple: GW is not subtle. Before 40K being released, they made Queen Magritta, who reached power in 1979 and fucks up the Empire. Every lore of hers since expands that she was awful, and her most hated policies were labor laws.
Meanwhile, what exactly Ghaz get that is even remotely similar? "Hur he attack an industrial world"? That's the only thing even close, and it's still a huge reach.

Boycotting doesn't work. Not only is Warhammer growing at a rate much higher that it'd lose customers, GW isn't concerned about a boycott because they're a public traded company beholden to their investors, so even if their product is a flop, the payday they'll get from Blackrock by changing the setting in ways that they deem would be more progressive would be way more than enough to make up for any good will they lose with their fanbase.

IMO, most of the faction reworks were an improvement in a lore sense. Nobody says that 40k was better when the primarchs were just random commanders, or when it was much sillier in its early versions.

People are rightly pissed about retcons if they fuck with actually decent lore and replace it with bullshit. The retarded new Terminus decree is an example, as is the random grimdarkening of the Black Templars and fucking with Grimaldus.

Both of those are retarded and bad, but they atleast are not obvious culture war bs from GW, complete with retardetly stating that femstodes "always existed".

It is also not only bad retcons that are called out, bad story is too. Remember when Abnett stupidly made up a mother to the Primarchs and how everything was her fault because she thought it a good idea to scatter them? That's deliberate, and how it should be. Yes, I'm putting on my old man 3rd edition hat again, but back then the setting was meant to be this large, open, yet stagnant stalemate with implied doom around the corner. It was supposed to be a fun sci-fi setting where any war, from a small kill team sized skirmish to epic armageddon level battles could take place.

TTRPG setting have this same problem. I get shit when I say this in that thread, but the big name settings have their lore so strict, specific, and nailed down you can't run an adventure in them without tripping over some bit of continuity you missed. I get shit for being reluctant to tap dance through a minefield and choosing the setting without any.

GW is going down the Battletech and MCU road, albeit at a slower pace, but it's still a road that leads to a dead end as you eventually build up so much homework that it makes the setting impenetrable. If GW starts bleeding players 10-15 years from now, and new people are being told they need to read 100 out of print novels just to get started, now you know why.

Thank fuck i do not. Abnett is so incredibely overrated as a 40k writer. Unpopular opinion but i don't get the love for the Eisenhorn trilogy, like at all. Dry-ass prose and painfully by-the-numbers plot. Eisenhorn is such a terribly one-dimensional character, too.
