I thought the Khan only sided with The Emperor because he saw what became of Magnus and later Mortarion when Mortarion tried to convince him to join?
At the start he and his forces were getting conflicting reports. Horus bad, emperor bad, etc combined with Alpha legion fuckery apparently killing loyal Horus white scars

Half the legion thought the khan would join Horus because Horus had been nice to them always but the Khan needed to see Prospero and after talking with Mortarion he realized the true nature of the conflict. In the end he chose the emperor.

It was kinda a lesser of two evils situation imo.

He didnt like Big E, but not enough to start a rebellion. Just chill doing his own thing, paying lip service. They saw things very differently.

Then Horus came along and he's starting to consider it. But realises that hes going to throw his lot in with a bunch of losers AND chaos. Horus got first pick of Primarchs AND could turn them before the reveal and STILL got the shit ones. Khan quickly realises how stupid of an idea that is and rejects it.

Abaddon hates him for bending the knee and becoming their puppet, where Siege Horus was only roused when the gods needed their weapon.

Though he wasn’t so much cripple as late life bath salts John Mcafee wandering his boat with a gun and scaring his guards.
I'd like to see him handle getting shanked by the Spear of Russ. Emperor knows a single uppity Blood Claw managed to fuck up Magnus with it.
Perturabo and the Iron Warriors carrying the Horus Heresy on their back while dragging the other demented psychos they're forced to fight with kicking and screaming is peak comedy to me.

I feel like Perty was slightly regretting his choice to join Horus by the time the siege of terra happened
Na, he was actually having fun for once when the siege started, having been let off the hook to do his thing.

And then he realizes Horus was just using him to deal with the Emperor's wards to let the Warp do the rest of the work.
‘Mass errors with the strategic data flow,’ said Perturabo. ‘So many errors and points of corruption that I can barely see the war.’ He looked around at Argonis. His eyes were dark mirrors. ‘I am becoming blind.’

‘Lord,’ said Argonis. ‘The Warmaster commands you–’

‘It does not matter,’ said Perturabo. The Lord of Iron stood from the cradle. Cables snapped. Sparks fizzled across his armour. Screens flickered and filled with static. ‘I know what you are here to say, emissary. Before my sight dimmed, I saw. It was there in the troop movements. In the sensor flow. Too great a change to not be ordained.’ Perturabo’s gaze held on Argonis. The primarch’s armour purred. ‘But speak your words, equerry. Let it be done.’

‘You are ordered to move your location. You shall disperse your Legion warriors amongst the assault forces. You shall take command of the assault on the Sanctus wall section.’

Forrix felt the breath become cold in his lungs.

‘The surge of forces is near completion,’ said Forrix. ‘Without strategic oversight, how will we guide the–’

‘I will not,’ said the Lord of Iron. Forrix just watched his primarch. Perturabo turned and looked at the terminals and jungle of cables filling the chamber. They all already had a wet, muscle-like sheen. ‘Mortarion and the Death Guard are moving, they are coming here,’ said Perturabo. ‘Is that not so, emissary?’

Argonis nodded.

‘That is the Warmaster’s will.’

‘We are to be displaced?’ Forrix could hear the disbelief crack the hard control of his voice. ‘We can see victory and you would take its architects away before it is complete. Who will order the battle?’

‘Order…’ The word seemed to echo though Perturabo had not raised his voice. ‘There is no order here now. This is not a war any more. This is a storm. And you see it, don’t you, emissary, equerry to the Warmaster who was once my brother? You see it. I am blind but now I can see as you see. The Legion war is dead. The cause we raised arms for is a corpse. There is nothing that happens from here that can be called victory.’

‘What are you saying, lord?’ said Forrix, his mind and voice moving out of sync with what his primarch had just said – with the impossible thing his primarch had just voiced.

Perturabo walked to one of the chamber windows and keyed a control. Blast shutters pulled up, grinding and squealing. Layers of fog and cloud hid the ground below. In the distance, the tops of towers rose from the folds of vapour. The orange light of a fading day folded over both. As Forrix looked, an explosion lit in the distance, large enough to shine through the murk. He had a feeling that he should walk away, that this was a moment that did not include him and should not be observed. He did not move.

‘How long to stand here,’ said Perturabo, his voice low. ‘A lifetime, many lifetimes as most mortals live them.’ He raised a hand, servos whining, exo-bracing and armour plates shifting. His hand opened, metal-clad digits reaching delicately for the distant towers of the unconquered Palace. ‘I never wanted to be put to any of the uses you put me to, father. All you have ever valued is destruction. All you have ever praised is weakness and pride. All that I wanted has been taken.’ Perturabo’s gaze was distant, as though he were focusing beyond what he could see to some infinite distance. ‘He is just like you, father. Horus, your bright son. You both made us want to serve you, and you then made us kill our dreams with our own hands.’

Perturabo looked out for a moment more and then his fist closed, and he turned away from the view.

‘Know this, equerry,’ said Perturabo. ‘I pity you. You see, and you know, and you fear for your Legion and wonder what the oaths you swore mean now. Yet you do not have the strength and the power to do the only thing that is left to do.’ Argonis looked as though he might reply, but the Lord of Iron had turned to Forrix. ‘Send a signal to all of our forces, full withdrawal. Bring our fleet into dock and begin to embark. We will move to the system edge and translate. This is immediate.’

Forrix did not move. The words he had just heard rang like bullets hitting iron.

‘Lord…’

‘It is over,’ said Perturabo. ‘Horus has given this battle to sorcerers and beasts. The war of Legions is over. Mortarion comes here to take this place. He and what he has become is what this war is now. He comes at the will of Horus to be the agent of what will happen.’

‘But he did not order our withdrawal.’

‘I order it,’ growled Perturabo. ‘It is my will. There is no victory here, just creatures and parasites pulling down a dying beast. It is gone. The Legion war is dead. The chance is gone. The cause is gone…’ Perturabo paused, and then shook his head. ‘We will not bleed for this. We will not break the circle of our iron for this.’

Forrix nodded then.

‘As you will it, my lord.’ He began to turn away, and then stopped.

‘All the blood of your Legion, all of the red iron spilled, was it worth it to come this far and go no further?’ asked Argonis.

Perturabo was silent for a long moment. Pistons and weapons clicked. Shells exchanged between guns and ammunition feeds.

‘It was worth it to learn the truth – this universe does not care. We could bleed our last and it would not matter. Pour the blood of my warriors into the earth and all that grows is the hunger for more.’ He began to move towards the doors.

As to the Khan, pic related.

Funny thing with Valrak for the majority of the life of his channel he actually worked a regular job full time. It only because of a major back / neck injury he made YouTube his main source of income.
Valrak gets a bad rap in a lot of places but over the years ive grown to like him more even if he is on the positive end of warhammer coverage. You can see his real opinions about things on his streams.

I like that the Conqueror is kind of like Davey Jone's ship from Pirates of the Carribean. Gives it character that I think most loyalist ships lack. Fabius Bile's gunship is also like that, where its half monster half machine.
Well that’s most of Chaos but I personally see the Death Guard as the Davy Jones equivalent, their ships are organic, they’re mutilated corpses and they’re lead by a heartless wretch who is simultaneously miserable and spiteful to a hateful degree.

If they were smart, they’d lean into it and make 40k Mortarion more like Jones, cruel less in a “damn you Guilliman!” way and more in the “Do you fear death?” approach.

Vorx did that well, talking victims to death.

I love the Khan for being that cool friend who lives for simple pleasures and is completely self-aware.

Letting Mortarion talk to him was a very bad idea for Horus but good for the plot because their Obi-Wan vs Grievous rivalry was a highlight of nu-Heresy lore and they make such good rivals.

The Khan, Dorn and Sanguinius are such unlikely bros and that was a highlight of the Siege. So much better than Roboute, Sanguinius and the Lion.

Yeah I need to get a small enough brush. I bought a 1 but my hands aren't steady enough to keep from blotching areas

Nice work.

As for the eyes, fortunately space marine eye lenses are quite large and recessed. If you mess up... fix it with some blue around it, no big deal. But there is something unintuitive that's kind of a trap about paintbrushes. If you go too small, it can become a hindrance, not a help. What you need for eye lenses and eyes is a really good point on a brush, not a tiny brush. If you go too small what can start to happen is that the brush can't hold enough paint and moisture in general so by the time you get paint on the brush, wick off the excess, and then go to apply it to the model, it's already started to dry.

Everyone has hand shakes to one extent or another when trying to do precision shit, but you can brace your elbows on the table, mini in one hand, brush in the other, and put your wrists together to get yourself more stability. Beyond that it's just practicing brush control.

Yeah i'll do more tomorrow, I have the other two minis to paint and now I'm kinda getting into the groove of thinning paints out and such

I liked the total dysfunction and clash of personalities they had, though. "Well, Roboute, this is exactly how I pictured your Imperium Secundus would look..."

At least we got an unlikely yet bro-tier friendship between an Iron Warrior and an Imperial Fist. That was nice.

I need to get new glasses, I think, while I was painting i noticed that things were getting blury after a bit. I've had the same prescription for a while so it makes sense.
That can certainly be an issue, but also if you're not used to it focusing on tiny shit in front of your face it can also just cause eye fatigue. Good daylight bulbs can help this too without costing an arm and a leg.

Also if it's not obvious, don't chug half a pot of coffee and then try to paint details lol.

One of my favorite dynamics of the brothers being absolute, unrelenting cunts to each other will always be Lorgar and Magnus in…… Crimson King?

Where they’re musing on the fact that their siblings are going insane and they mention a remembrancer…….. in Fulgrim’s fleet.

Lorgar mentions the “Third isn’t nice to mortals” and Magnus throws it back that, “neither is yours.”

That’s the book where their friendship dissolves and Magnus accepts his role but absolutely refuses to let Lorgar try and get into his head. It’s when I warmed to Magnus finally getting with the program.

Well, Lorgar is just a fucking cunt, period. He legitimately can't help it though. When Ferrus Manus handed him Illuminarium he asked if there was anything he could make that wasn't functional to the point of being borderline ugly. He fully intended it to be a gentle critique with the goal of having Ferrus think about how he uses his talents and right after he said it he realized it came out as him being a condescending ass.

And then of course later on he decides that since Horus isn't 100% on board with the will of the Dark Gods to coup him and appoint himself Warmaster... and he gets a Grade A assbeating from Worldbreaker for his temerity, Horus finding out about his scheme somehow and not even bothering to give Lorgar a chance to explain himself or beg for mercy before smacking him around like the bitch he is.

Small brush helps, but let me help you to be lazy.

White ink or paint. Let it dry. Then throw on a contrast colour of your choice. Blob it. Its a runny paint and just sits there like a puddle. It wont run because they are eye sockets and hold it until it dries. Can also use Blood for the Blood God or Tesseract Glow if you cant choose a contrast.

A 1 brush could probs do it, if not get a 00 at some point for this job.

Edit: i keep Flesh Tearer Red (Best), Blood Angels Red, Talassar Blue (Best), Karandras Green, Hexwraith Flame, Tesseract Glow (Best), Blood for the Blood God (Best) and the 3 spiritstone technicals for this reason. You can go purple eye lenses if you really want (dont, go Red for Ultras).

They look great! You already got the hang of one of the hardest parts which is thinning your paints so it doesnt come out textured on your mini. One thing i'd recommend is to not re-paint these first new minis so you can keep them as a physical record of your first steps in the hobby.

You got any pics for these contrast eyes? I've never seen it done like that. Might try it on some of the goblins i've been painting from AOS.

Unmentioned protip: Get a white-light desk lamp. It helps a lot. Much better than relying on your room lighting to see what you're painting, and typical yellow house lights can skew what color your paints look like to you.

You probably already know this as well, but you should be sure to prime your models too. GW just omits this from their absolute beginner paint kits and tutorials because it's a barrier to entry.

I also liked the dysfunction of the Imperium Secundus bunch, especially because of the antagonistic role the Lion had in it. Wanting to get in everyone else's business, yet also being immensely guarded when it comes to his own affairs. The loyalists at the Siege just don't have the time for that sort of entertaining squabbling.

I'm burning through Perturabo's book, or it's short compared to the others I've read. Either way this is really good imo. This fucking behemoth justl constantly tard raging in some poor schmucks face is comedy gold as well.
It is fucking hilarious. The most competent of the traitor primarchs, and one of the most competent period, is this autistic, juvenile asshole that lashes out instead of being more productive.

Has anyone read the Dawn of Fire, Indomitus series? I read about half of the first book and it was fucking boring trash, easily Guy Haley's weakest work.
