Ironic seeing as how Lorgar and the Word Bearers are the only ones who can do that.
Speaking of Lorgar, I am interested what GW will do with him in the current storyline.

They often play around with the idea that the traitor primarchs could be redeemed or forgiven by the Emperor, even with colossal shitheads like Konrad and Mortarion.

The one I would find most interesting to redeem is Lorgar. Not sure how I would do it, but him becoming a double traitor, trying to redeem himself and then getting killed by Corax would be a cool arc.

Not mine. Saw it on Twitter/ X.

Right now I'm leaning towards either Kill Team or Combat Patrol for now
Kill Team is great for saving money, I've never played. Personally I think making kits where everyone is essentially a special character, like a lot of kits tend to be, isn't the best idea, as the transference over to main game aren't great. Units should be a leader and 1-2 special weapons, unless it's a command squad or honor guard.
Combat Patrols are not their own system, they're just a starter box for an army. They are usually still over priced and not the best choices for starting said army.

Yeah I need to get a small enough brush. I bought a 1 but my hands aren't steady enough to keep from blotching areas

My advice, not that anyone cares, is don't. You're making the right call avoiding the eyes, since it can look weird not doing them, but having two huge blobs will ruin the look.

I'd suggest getting a fine point marker, but you knew I'd say that.

If in doubt, do dots. Again, better too little paint that too much.

A friend of mine puts a white dot in the corner. To me, it's not enough, but to him it gives the appearance of a lens without having to paint the lens.

Edit:
What would you recommend for starting an army?
Honestly. Don't. Not yet anyway. 11th is around the corner, supposedly.

I don't get the hate for Combat Patrol. I've not played it yet. However, I hear good things about AoS Spearhead, and it's likely GW will copy it for Combat Patrol in 11th.

In non-40k 40k news. Konflikt47 dropped a preview of their new zombie themed army. Most people are hyped, and even 40k players are liking them as proxy pox walkers and ...something else? I'm not sure what. I assume a bloat drone? He's the model.

And I'll try not to bring it up every time it happens, but it seems like whenever K47 gets a big win, there's the 40k fanboys who get mad about it. This time ranting about nazi zombies is a lazy idea, that Warlord isn't giving equal love to their factions, etc. My favourite is a guy who I assume is a GW YouTuber getting a few rage comments because "no one cares" about K47 and he should cover 40k exclusively.

I'll have to go compare prices on stuff but maybe
If you want to play, you ought to consider the availability of other players for you chosen game. 40k will be the easiest playerbase to find. Heresy is more niche. For Kill team I think it's easily conceivable to have more than one team and let your opponent borrow if need be. Check your local stores to ask what's getting played and if they have Discord groups in which people can ask for and schedule games.

I think I'm gonna go to hobby lobby and see what they have, I'm thinking of getting one of those headthings that come with a light that have a magnifying glass on it so I can actually paint the smaller details. Especially since I'm really enjoying the whole painting aspect of everything, it's very relaxing.
I've seen a lot of people speaking highly of those wearable magnifying glasses to help picking up smaller details and being a bit easier on the eyes. Being a paintcel is awesome, i really enjoy putting a audiobook or a video and just go painting away.

On the topic of killteam/combat patrol/heresy i'd say that unless you personally know people who are into one game or another that you want to play too, you should look around the shops in your area to see what they play. The shop i like most people play kill team since PUGs are easier. Between 40k and heresy, both have players and you will probably have to set up a match instead of showing up to play, so either way its better to just pick the minis you enjoy more. I know you can use some miniatures on both games (or all of them, even) as proxies if whoever you are playing against isnt too much of an ass.

Exactly this. "play heresy" does you absolutely no good if there's no one else playing it in a 200 mile radius. Anything GW makes beyond 40k and AoS is niche and may not have an audience.

It was a joke in 9th with some combat patrols just coming with things that other boxes had zero answer to, and the points values being wildly all over the place. 10th improved on that mostly by cutting models from boxes rather than boosting the bottom end so that left a sour taste in peoples mouths. And of course there's next to nothing published for it outside of White Dwarf other than a handful of boring missions.

I guess at some point recently Waha decided to start posting narrative stuff from WD, so they added the warp storms mission from 2024. You know GW is being retarded when the fucking Russian rules website is doing more to promote shit besides 2000 point comp format games that GW themselves does.

If I could decide on one it'd probably be either World Eaters or Salamanders though I wouldn't mind doing both
Two factions i probably know the least about.

WE have a decent combat patrol and are about to get a battleforce.

Salamanders are just Space Marines who got a christmas box but thats likely sold out. The combat patrol boxes for Space Marines were also limited runs but you could get lucky with the Salamaders one.

This is my personal recommendation for people starting out these days. Not only is it less painting units to get started, it's also less terrain needed. It's a smaller board size so you don't need to have a huge table or go to a gaming store.

The time investment per game is also less. In addition, learning the game takes less time too. When I was learning 40k back in 8th it unironically took me like 3 months to fully understand the flow of the game and all the little rules I needed to look out for. The main benefit with getting someone started with killteam is that it makes it feasible to teach to another person in like 15 minutes, and then get a game in like 45 while still letting them learn. I'm not going to pretend that it's as deep of gameplay as horus heresy or fantasy, but it is similar depth to 10th edition 40k imo.

On the painting front having multiple different kill teams will expose you to more types of detail, more opportunities to test out different techniques. Also exposes you to more armies if you're starting out.

I like both game systems, but for starting out, especially if you live somewhere without access to a community I'd suggest going the kill team route.

I just have a friend who is into squad shooter strategy game so KT was the easier way for him to lean into it… he still refuses to learn anything about 40k and just studies the rules and data cards and that’s all.
