Warhammer 40k

32 fucking k. Depression isn't actually caused by any sort of chemical imbalance so they're literally gonna pay thousands of dollars to get high in a clinic room and call it therapy. So cool
Keep in mind they've also got a patreon making $850 a month for god knows what https://www.patreon.com/Numbskulls
And then merch on top of that
Maybe $25 "GAY WRATH" coffee mugs don't sell well enough?

We were definitely just talking about it a few pages ago because someone had an ink they wanted to use for a white base and then fluorescent layer on top of that for their eldar, and I suggested the dip pen(which is demonstrated in the gunpla video) as a possible alternative application method(also cheap).
That was me.

Ive bought a cheap pen from Amazon and when life gives me time I'm going to give it a shot.

I know the theory is sound, i just need to not be retarded for the application.

I think Eldar and Tau are the most panel-lining factions out there but occasionally you'll see a tank or something you can try it on.

What are your opinions on the Pages from the Black Books?

Are they good collections or leave out too much from the original Black Books? I haven't read through them yet, since I don't enjoy reading books digitally.
They are just copy and pasted exerts from the books. If they're doing a reprint run of the Black Books than I can understand trying to grow hype via this, but I think the honest answer is they are too lazy to make actual content for Heresy on Warcom. If they don't continue Heresy Thursday then they get memed on, like with Orktober, so the staff are essentially refusing to take a L. Its understandable, as every time they take a pause we chimp out. We also do it when they do a shitty article, so it's a losing battle no matter whar they do.

I've been using Oil Washes using the reductive method but my LGS owner was explaining pin washing (I think?) in a way that my smooth brain could not process. I was tooling around a little bit with it last night but I am having a hard time hitting the right spots, either too much or too little. Any good videos? Im finding a bunch of stuff for the reductive method, which is fine but I do want to give this a shot.
Before pin washing apply a gloss clear coat, otherwise capillary action won't occur.

It'll still occur, you'll just get less of it and more staining on cleanup the less glossy (and hence rougher) the surface when you apply the wash.

Deja vu about pin wash, weren't we just sharing some of those vids? Or was that in the general TT thread? Can't remember.

Anyway, new Eldar Vyper. Not viper, that's not something they can trademark.

The neat hook is you can rotate the rear gunner module, which admittedly is pretty darned neat.
I like the model but it's way too big. It's meant to be a bigger jetbike with a gun on it, not a small jet fighter.

I found someone that's into 40K in my small town, so I bought my first minis, the Kill Team starter set: Ultramarines vs Death Guard. After 22 years of reading books, watching four million hours of lore videos at work, and playing most of the 40k video games I now have to do the hardest thing of all: put minis together and paint them. I have no idea what to do or where to start. Do you glue the parts of the minis together like model airplanes? Anyone have recommendations for 100% "i've never bought a GW product before" beginner guides? The last minis I've even seen in real-life were some metal ones like 20 years ago.

You don't need to over think it. The starter set you got should be push-fit so you shouldn't need to glue anything. The hardest part is going to be painting them and you shouldn't stress too much over that.

You're overthinking it. From GW's description
The miniatures in this set are each supplied with a sculpted base. These push-fit miniatures are designed to be pushed off their frames without using clippers, can be assembled without glue, and are supplied unpainted – we recommend using Citadel Colour paints.

So just cut 'em off, scrape and mold lines with your x-acto knife if you've got one(if you don't, they're dirt cheap), push 'em together(I still use plastic cement on push fit anyway), and paint the things. There should be a basic how-to in the box, just follow that.

After that
And of course there's plenty of space marine chapter/legion specific videos out there if you don't want to come up with your own color scheme. Seriously, starting is the easy part these days with so many guides/tutorials/explanations out there.

Having the cockpit facing rear to call it a different vehicle is utterly silly to me, but

That's actually a pretty good amount of build options besides just the weapon loadout.
I suspect what has made the matter of the Vyper/Starfang turret confusing is that GW's painted examples have their turrets stuck in place, either glued together or prototypes that did not yet have moveable parts. That's why the gif for the moving turret is with an unpainted plastic Starfang. Until the gif made it clear, I was confused about whether even the Vyper still had a turret because all of the photos have the rear cockpit pointed straight ahead.

Assuming that the pages are exactly the same (aside from shifting the page numbers), I appreciate that they exist as pristine, purely-digital pdfs with searchable text and clean, color-accurate artwork whereas the pirated pdfs out there are scans from the physical books. Of course I'd rather have the full contents of the original books, but these "Pages from the Black Books" are useful as supplemental references. Though there is precedent for GW reprinting old game books as collector's items with the original Rogue Trader and Realm of Chaos, I doubt they'll ever do that for the Black Books, so this is probably the best reproduction we're going to get.

There's another question as to why GW didn't instead put the Black Books in their Warhammer Vault, even as rules-redacted "The Lore" versions (as much as I have despised those redactions in their other Vault releases). But I think the answer to that is obvious. GW only has a fraction of Horus Heresy products in the works for the upcoming years compared to the previous, but they want to regularly remind people through their main news and marketing website that Horus Heresy still exists. Given the weekly releases of "Pages from the Black Books" so far, they can easily stretch it to last for a year, maybe two.

That guy is getting a model, by the way. Probably intended to be announced imminently for this year's "Black Library Celebration".

Noticing a trend with recent BL miniatures?

It's always so obvious when GW try to push a character rather than making models of BL characters people actually like. I think the female commissar might have been the first one of this trend.
Female author makes a new book about a female literal who character and instantly gets a model.

Meanwhile characters like Ciaphas Cain? Talos for Night Lords? Eh who needs it?
Edit: She also made it into the MtG set by the way alongside the likes of Calgar, Guilliman etc

I instantly disliked the Corsair version because it really did look like the turret was stuck in that position. Knowing it's a proper turret it's actually pretty cool, definitely a presentation blunder.

I've always thought they'd focus mostly on female HQs going forward. Having every fucking character they can make female be female is a lot easier than having to double up on troops or toss in some token exactly 50% female torsos and heads in every sprue.

New Archmagos and Histarii. Didnt see anyone else post them so hit me with clocks if someone did. The archmagos looks sick as fuck, genuinely up there with how an archmagos should look. Tbh I think I like him better than Cawl, or at least Cawl should've been as big as this guy seems to be. The histarii also look pretty good, very solid design if a touch chicken legged. They almost look like necron Immortals.
