Weight loss support thread

Granola bars are pretty much just candy, just check the ingredients.

Oh, definitely. Real granola that you make yourself with oats, wheat germ, sesame seeds and honey, nuts and/or dried fruit, is a whole different and much more filling food. I fell for the granola bar marketing scheme, to borrow a DSPism. But I read Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss this autumn, which I'm pretty sure I've seen recommended a time or two in the Chantal thread, and I'll throw in a recommendation for it over here. Reading it provided me with some new defenses while grocery shopping.

I managed to find some frozen vegetarian pizzas that are about 535 calories for the whole thing, which isn't bad when you compare it to other frozen pizzas that are about 700 calories or more.

Throw in some mushrooms and whatever else you can find, some low cal slices of chicken/turkey ham and it's pretty decent.

Hey, guys. I'm a really sensitive guy when it comes to food, and all of my favorite stuff is really fatty. My metabolism has kept me from obesity, but I know that won't last forever. I've been told by a doc that I should eat more vegetables and more lean foods, but me and veggies have a, like, 3rd grade understanding of each other. Any of you guys got healthy greens or the like that don't have a really strong taste or a slimy texture? Would appreciate some advice until I can brute force my way into liking certain shit.

Bell peppers

Eat some cottage cheese alongside with it and it's great

Broccoli is trees and you are an angry giant. The forest is standing in your way. Go, go, go!

Cauliflower is pretty mild tasting. Raw dipped in ranch dressing or hummus is good. It is also good oven roasted. I've seen recipes for oven roasting that use buffalo wing dressing to make them as wing substitutes. Putting a seasoning or flavor you like on them goes a long way to making them more palatable. Or just adding cheese or cheese sauce can help you eat them until you develop a taste for it.

Carrots are another thing that can be dipped in dressing or oven roasted. When you roast them, they become sweeter tasting, but a little more mushy -- so that depends on if you can handle that kind of texture. But they taste pretty great that way. I usually put peeled potatoes cut into quarters, onions roughly chopped, peeled carrots (all tossed in olive oil, salt and pepper) into an oven baking bag and bake it at 350 degrees F for about an hour. Takes time, but the prep and cooking is easy.

You can also substitute zucchini for spaghetti. You can pick up a cheap veggie spiralizer and use that to make the "pasta". You pan fry that for just a couple of minutes (long enough to heat it and soften it just a bit -- but not too long or it does get mushy) using a little bit of olive oil. Put spaghetti sauce over it and it is pretty darn close to actually eating pasta. I do that a lot when I'm cutting carbs.

Adding vegetables like zucchini, squash, green beans, broccoli to a stir fry is good, too. They taste pretty great when cooked at that high heat and with a good stir fry sauce. If you eat meat, the meat will also help flavor them to make it more palatable.

You can always sneak in a little bit of spinach into a smoothie or blended into pasta sauce which helps you get the nutrients without having to taste them. But, you can't get as much in that way because you'll taste it if you try to get a full serving of them in there.

Fat is your friend, if you cut out the carbs.
Fat+carbs is going to make you gain weight, so either go high fat/low carb or high carb/low fat (the latter is more likely to make you fat in my experience).
Wh it comes to vegetables, this here:
Broccoli is trees and you are an angry giant. The forest is standing in your way. Go, go, go!

Stick with veggies with a low glycemic index and especially cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower etc)
If you don't like them, eat them anyway. You'll eventually get used to eating them and almost start to enjoy them.
Basically try to get stuff that's low in sugar (fructose), most fruits and veggies like carrots are pretty loaded with sugar.

I fucking hate it when my fucking family forces me to eat man. Filipinos have no fucking control when it comes down to eating. When I told them I can’t eat much, they laughed and yelled at me for actually doing my part to lose weight and told me that I’m not eating enough. Filipino families are a bitch to deal with.
Not to mention Filipino food is greasy, unpresentable bullshit. My cousin-in-law is Italian and refuses to eat sinigang.

Honestly, i don’t see an issue with eating a lot of fat so long as it’s healthy fat. (Like avocados, nuts, grass fed beef) it fills you up quickly and for a long time. Refined carbs are what’ll get you.

I really like brussels sprouts. I go through a bag and a half of them every week. Put some olive oil and salt on them, cover with foil and bake in the oven for 35 minutes at 425 degrees. I’ve been combining them with those mixed bags of riced cauliflower, broccoli and carrots lately well. Those can just get steamed on the stove. Adding some crumbled goat cheese will take it to another level.

Cabbage soup is good too. You can make over week’s worth of it on $15 or less. Just chop up a head of cabbage and boil it in chicken broth with meat and a bag of shredded carrots. I like to add olive oil, garlic and a lot of chili powder to get more flavor.

Boiled spaghetti squash comes pretty close to the real thing as well.

I'm REALLY starting to hate family gatherings. Every other month or so there's always some kind of get-together and it spells disaster for a weekend with the house getting flooded with junk food of every kind. Normally I'm pretty good at avoiding that kind of stuff but when you're surrounded by it and everyone else is eating it and the ol' "It's a special occasion!" excuse pops up, I crack. And then it takes the solid following week to get my body back on track.
Keto helps with that. just eat the good stuff at gatherings.

So my problem is I'm a fat fuck who works constantly and doesn't have time to cook.

I need some help. What are some cheap, easy, recipes that can help a fat fuck like me.

I'm about 1.5 percent over the maximum BMI for knee replacement surgery. Extremely frustrating because most heart raising aerobic activities are put of reach. I try to count calories and I have been doing Intermittent Fasting with good results, but when I was told I needed to lose weight, I panicked and backslid, gaining 5 pounds back. Thankfully I have more of a salty than sweet tooth, but snacking and the comfort food needed mindset are killers.

Good luck to all! I raise a glass of non-caloric, delicious and filling water to all!
Have you considered trying swimming? It's a good exercise that shouldn't impact the knee too much.
