Is the new Fionna & Cake good?

I am a pretty big Adventure Time fan, if you couldn't tell by the PFP, and have been dreading this given the state of modern reboots and Fionna & Cake always being a weak concept.

Also, WB, please let Adventure Time die. It had a great run, let it die with dignity. I am okay with stuff like Multiversus, but the show itself has run its course and we really don't need more nostalgia continuations.

To be honest, it actually ain't half that bad.

The show was amazing. I liked the new edge older Finn has. Only problem is it’s not lije the original pilot series.

Lol, don't worry. It feels like a limited series that will force the main characters and viewers into adulting.

How do you do fellow 90s kids?
This seems like a great lawsuit waiting to happen from nintendo.

Ok fiona and cake? sounds like its better than people thought it would be but lets save judgment for the final relase. This new retro rugrats game? I don't know to feel, been burned by hype and nostalgia for the good ole days of futrue past gone bye to even care anymore. but i will say it looks....better than nurats 2020s to say the least. Guess that amounts to something...or maybe it doesnt who fucking cares anymore.

That actually looks pretty good. Shame it's not an actual NES homebrew like the Grimace game was actually on GBC but I'm not too upset.
The real issue is that the "HD" mode looks super cursed but it's obviously a box-ticking addition so it's not a big deal.

Like everyone has said so far, it has had a surprisingly good start so far.

But going by what we‘ve seen so far I doubt we will get a straight Fiona and Cake story like the specials. It seems more like they are trying to subvert expectations, as modern AT often does.

It seems it’s going to be more about growing up and letting the past go than fun Gender bender adventures with Fiona and cake. I could be wrong. But I doubt it.

Here’s a much more cursed product, if you want one:

A guy using Dreams for PS4 is building a better looking game than this actual dev team.

This seems very inline with the original Adventure Time, so glad to hear it.

I hope so, but the show has already come back twice now, so who knows if they’ll pull a third.

cross post from the rip thread.

first jimmy buffet now Steve Harwell

Steve Harwell 56 on his deathbed with liver failure.

This ones for you Steve and all of us who were there when it was new.
Say what you about Shrek, for better or worse all the good and harm it did both in its day and years later (cursed images, autistic fanbase that sonic's would blush ect) but you can't deny it means a lot for an entire generation maybe several BECAUSE of how it's still leaving an impact on the animation industry even 20 plus years later. First Aron Carter (even if he did become a lolcow in his later life) now Steve Harwell. Our entire Generation X/older millennials are losing everything it had.

I know it's a poor comparison to make make but this must be how it felt for the boomers as they watched icons from their generation die off.

God damn it, that was the most 2000's song ever written.

Also I don't really blame Shrek for creating harm in the industry. Pixar was more of a factor with Disney going full 3d, reference humour was already popular when it was made and cynicism defined the 2000's.

I would put it more as a sequel series for all the kids that grew up and became sad sacks. It will be interesting for fans of AT to see how all the characters are doing some time after the end of the first series but I do fear it's just going to be " We're adults now! That means being a depressed loser!"

I did like what they were exploring with Simon/ Ice King through.

It's a 90s song, retard. It came out in 1999, and it was actually written for the movie Mystery Men, and was used in other movies before Shrek.

Didn’t adventure time end over a decade ago?

Isn't 2000's the 1990-1999 time? I always get those mixed up. Anyways it was the song of the turn of the millennium and I remember it primarily from Rat Race

Well, the 2000s had a lot of elements carried from the 90s in pop culture, which explains why people mix some 2000s culture with 90s.

Fionna and Cake was better than I expected but the fact that the very first scene of the show is a direct reference to Sailor Moon (because all anime is either Sailor Moon or Dragon Ball) did not inspire confidence. I fear it will come down with a nasty case of SWPA-itis.

Gentlemen please the Man has passed away today. Let's not fight over what decade his music was more relevant too. Let's honor him in a way he should be remembered. As such if I may.

Rip Steve Harwell 😢

I like old fashioned cartoons. Some time back I watched some of Disney's early work (I loved Saludos Amigos, Three Caballeros, and parts of Fantasia). What's some of the more recent stuff that's worth watching?

I feel like The Brave Little Toaster, An American Tail, and The Iron Giant would be quality movies that just kind of passed me by as a kid. Over the Garden Wall is a recent one that looks absolutely fantastic. Probably rewatch A Goofy Movie (it was actually one of my favorite movies as a little kid, but I don't think I ever saw it but once).
