Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Oh yeah, Ellis such a good writer. He has characters say 'fuck' ten times per line and has interesting ideas like... What if the Christians were... EVIL!? Christians bad, but niggers and dykes good, and Muslims too! Transmetropolitan, and the first half of the authority. (prior to Mark Millar taking over) This may go more into comics sperging than animation but in the early days when guys like Ellis, Ennis, Millar, and so on were either on leashes that kept from going full edgelord or weren't full on edgelords for the sake of edge themselves. They were definitely an improvement over the cyber forces, Youngbloods, and the other crap comics did pre 95/97. The problem is they all got so far up their heads with how new and hip edge for the sake of edge got that it eventually lead to things like Netflixs castlevania, the boys diabolic, and superman red son (the dc animated version)
I read the first compilation of Transmetropolitan and while it had some interesting stuff it just wasn't for me. Tons of people calling a comic where some random asshole confronts the president who has no security and then makes him shit his brains out a masterpiece of political fiction. I could've kept reading it for the wierd sci-fi alone but I made the mistake of reading Scud beforehand which was far weirder and far more up my alley (until that horrible fucking horse filler arc).

N I G G E R S.
Roger Rabbit is one those movies I can watch multiple times and not get tired of it.
Also fun fact Judge Doom was originally going to played by Jon Pertwee who was a life-time fan and admirer of animation and even called aladdin his favorite movie

Ever saw that one Duran Duran cover and thought "Man, if only there was an animated series based on that aesthetic"?
edit o fuck wrong video
I'm 6 episodes in. It's basically really absurdist everyone is fucking retarded comedy but they're all taking it very seriously(besides the will forte character who is coincidentally my least favorite) which I appreciate. It's 20 minutes of pure idioicy wrapped up in a really neat artstyle.
I really, really liked that show (but I love dumb comedy) but you can tell they were trying to be Archer without that extra spice that made Archer really good in the first few seasons. They couldn't quit get that Archer works since while the characters are asshole screw up they are competent asshole screw ups.
I’m late to this one, but I just want to say that I actually do remember this show fondly on Comedy Central when it came on. It always used to remind me of what would happen if GTA: Vice City was a comedy, but without Tommy Vercetti.

If anything, I remember the Archer comparisons to this one since at the time, I thought it was nice that they seemed on the surface to look like they were competing with Archer with vintage Miami Vice-looking aesthetic. The only problem is that around that time, more people were interested in Brickleberry episodes than this and it was one of the reasons why I stopped watching Comedy Central altogether.

To this day, I am still pissed that America said no to Moonbeam City. It's an underrated series with a nice cross of Archer, American Dad, Venture Bros., Miami Vice, GTA and Hotline Miami. I really dig it. The comedy had every right to be hilarious, and it's still way better than most other adult animated shows on the air such as Allen Gregory, Hoops, The Prince, Our Cartoon President or Big Mouth.

Actually, Brickleberry was already cancelled months before Moonbeam City even aired. Comedy Central was, at that point, hoping for another successful animated series during that time, and they were hoping that Legends of Chamberlain Heights (dear god, that fucking show) was going to be the one that will be as successful, but it lasted only two seasons, even more episodes than Moonbeam City.

I laugh because I, too, thought the show was slightly amusing as a satire on the NBA as a whole. Though. I still it find it both suspicious, yet jarring, that the co-creator seemed to apologize on behalf of their crew for possibly, though somewhat unexpectedly, pulling a Simpsons and “predicting” Kobe Bryant’s untimely death due to a helicopter accident.

That's the one. The comic is by Alex Alice and it's a kind of quick but very beautiful retelling of Siegfried's part of nibelungen, and looking around there was actually a remastered trailer for the assumed dead movie.

Purty.
This is gorgeous, I would love to see this. I was going to say you could just do Siegfried because it has a clean start and a happy ending, but it looks like it would include Gotterdammerung as well. What parts does the comic cover?

There was another animated take on Das Rheingold in the '90s by an English studio that I quite like. Reminds me a bit of The Hobbit.

Castlevania is genuinely one of the worst writen, worst paced, most boring shows I have ever laid eyes upon and I genuninely cannot fathom how this shit got this popular.
As a fan of the show, I agree. It's such a problematic guilty pleasure for me. Like it's very edgelord and cringe. But fun. I almost didn't continue after season 1 because I thought the dialogue was sooooooo bad, but I guess I just gradually got invested in the characters. I agree with all your criticisms though, it's genuinely a baffling show that just doesn't care about structure or anything. In a way it's so rough that it feels personal in a way most mainstream stuff doesn't get to be anymore, so that's probably what strikes people.

It's fucking weird. Something like Beavis & Butthead, South Park, Family Guy, American Dad, Futurama, and especially Simpsons have done a lot more of "predicting" the future like some type of crystal ball they've been using (even though most things they've done are just coincidences), but rarely has a show as forgotten as Chamberlain Heights would ever "predict" the future, which explains the end of the world episode in one scene featuring Kobe's death.

Drawn Together predicted Bill Cosby being a sex offender, twice. It gets even funnier as, for those who believe he is innocent, they also predicted that people would lie about the allegations.

Drawn Together also predicted Trump's border policy in a joke that aged like fine wine.

There are also plenty of jokes that start to become more real as time goes on. The gay future (cartoons being gay propaganda), SJWs, a literal Trans-former, Disney hiding all the offensive cartoons and owning Star Wars,

The Cleveland Show also made a brief prediction of Disney buying Star Wars and Fox in the episode where the Cleveland, Jr. and the Tubbs go to San Diego Comic Con.

I'd take every other prediction over that one...hell it's not a prediction, if I may put on my tinfoil hat. these shows are written specifically based on the plans Hollyweird has all mapped out for us John q public types. It's like when your parents map out your entire life between middle school to college and a career after that....only these plans won't change.

The alternative explanation is that these jokes put ideas in people's heads, people who can execute those ideas - but would've never thought to try on their own.

Which leads credence to the super conservative mothers who called those shows evil and forbade you from watching them.

Hell, you want to talk old adult cartoons that only lasted a season at most…Kid Notirious.

I literally only found out about it because CC played all the episodes in a block a few years back after 1am.
That show was underrated. It may have reeked early-to-mid 2000s outdated flash animation with its tweening and all, but it was still comedy gold through and through thanks to its writing and dialogue. I honest to god thought that Robert Evans was the show's fictional character until I looked it up and didn't even know it was literally a show about a real life figure named Robert Evans who was a big player over at Paramount from the late-60s through early-2000s, who even voiced himself in the show.
