Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Because of the Culturally Misappropriated world we live in today, one has to remind themselves this was put out almost 60 years ago!

I heard a rumor that they're going to reboot Animaniacs. Personally, I think that while I have some fond memories, they should let it rest. (I'd prefer they'd make more Freakazoid episodes.) Also, could they get away with making characters like Hello Nurse and Mirvena Mink who were often the product of the "male gaze" that was played for laughs?

Looking back at it, the cast was a hit or a miss a lot of times. There were some real clunker characters like Katie Kaboom and the Hip Hippos. Others who were one trick ponies like Chicken Boo. And I felt like Buttons and Mindy was kind of mean spirited.

There were some that had their moments (Goodfeathers and Rita and Runt) and the rest were enjoyable. I've noticed Slappy is either one of your favorites or one of your least.

Who knows, I'm sure the Minerva Mink crowd would also throw a fit if she's not even in it for one second!

Wasn't sure if I wanted to necro the Sing thread to post this, but I think the issues brought up here applies for many other properties and not just the film itself.

Fun fact: my brothers got mad at me for not taking a side with this film. I said I couldn't hate it or like it (still think it's better than Secret Life of Pets), because I literally didn't know what to think of it, and they wouldn't take my neutrality for an answer like the spergs they are. Never saw it again since, never cared to, but Alex basically said everything better than whatever I could've come up then. Chances are they won't agree with what he has to say if I were to show this to them.

My family will put up with bad movies for some strange reason...

I didn't really mind Sing, it wasn't good or anything memorable, but it's nothing worth making a rant video about. One of the first IHE videos that put me to sleep. I do agree with his points on Illumination putting out mediocre films for a quick buck though.

Aside from that, have any of you seen Becky Prim?
I wouldn't mind watching this on Adult Swim or something.

This so needs to be a series.

CN would be wise NOT to pass this up. Unlike most of what they have in the pipeline, they really do need to make THIS a series, right the fuck now.

There are ideas here, in that, for me, it actually feels like Evil Con Carne, except done right (much fucking better) and with the actual energy and dark humor / overall execution needed to make this work, even if all we have so far are these shorts.

If the show can match these shorts, it's a win - win waiting to happen.

Normally, I don't have any love for stuff about kids going to school (e.g.: IMHO, cartoons being cartoon-y, as in not just appealing, or worse, pandering, to kids.), but this show has a unique premise and actual ideas that need to be further explored.

Plus, it's blessed with an art-style that's actually worth a damn, as well as it feels like a good parody on high school BS, so yeah - I could see this being a hit, even if I'm not completely sold on it, myself, either. But yeah - it needs to be on [AS] - I don't see anyone else handling this well enough to turn out as reasonably memorable as this did in its current state.

I have mixed feelings on Becky's voice. There's just something that doesn't gel.

So I don't know how late I am on this, but apparently one of the writers of the Powerpuff Girls Reboot wrote their self-insert into the show? And apparently said self-insert was a love interest for Blossom???

The damage control is it was like, totally a joke and stuff.

Except it was funny to absolutely nobody.

And pedophilia is just such a hilarious joke on a children's cartoon.
I could see the "joke" excuse being used if it was like one episode or something.

But this was a multi-episode thing, right?
