I think what's frustrating about Nintendo's attitude towards F-Zero is their excuses for not making another one are bullshit. They dabbled in things like a story mode before that was mainstream. Their inability to bolt gimmicks onto it should be a strength, not a weakness. And lack of original ideas doesn't stop them farting out Mario and Zelda games every few years.

After watching DF Retro's overview of the series, I developed a theory. Nintendo had big hopes for F-Zero when they released the Anime. That didn't do so well so they kicked the franchise upstairs after the 3rd GBA title. They turned to Mario Kart as their racing franchise since A) It rides off the coattails of Mario's popularity B) appeals to a wider audience. Also, it does constantly well. MK8 DLX is like the highest selling Switch game. Or near the top.

Nintendo is slowly inching back towards making a new F-Zero title with the release of F-Zero 99. But I'm doubtful its gonna happen any time soon.

Being able to play in VR isn't the selling point they think it is. I love VR games, and I play the vast majority without issue. Gran Turismo Sport in VR? The first time a video game nearly made me fucking puke. I gave it a couple tries and every time I was ready to vomit after 5 minutes.

Used to be one of those retro fags... until I got a massive collection and realized: storage is a pain, maintenance is a pain, and I won't play 60% of what I own. Used to be a big "romantic" of retro games until I stopped being a nostalgia blinded faggot and started to accept and recognize that "yes, in fact, the vast majority of games from 20-30 years ago have aged like dried dog shit and are utterly miserable to play, even compared to the live services and bullshit we have today."

I get the purist mindset of being against emulation, as it is not 1:1 (its still 99% ya whiners), but fuck sakes, these consoles age, there's less of them every day as well as their games and actively maintaining them gets more difficult as parts dry up and no one makes them anymore. Digitization and emulation are the only way you're preserving most of these games going forward and will become the only way for most of these games to be played at all thanks to the passage of time and COLLECTORFAGS making what are genuinely "meh" games locked behind a $250+ for a copy paywall.

Purists who lose their shit over QoL improvements added to revisions or re-releases of old games should have their ass beat. I hate the hand holding of modern gaming, but if an update makes the game less jank and overall more enjoyable and playable, who cares? These particular faggots are usually upset because whatever game they're crying about added some feature that reduces the need for grinding or jumping through 47 menus to do one action, and they're upset that they had to do it the hard way and people doing it the new way don't. I'm not even kidding, good fucking luck getting these sad fucks to ever admit it though.

Another "community" I have experience with would be the World of Tanks community. It's a community made up of a bunch of insufferable autistic faggots. They are also delusional as well. I would say it's pretty niche also. I used to play World of Tanks years ago. I started in 2013 and played off and on for years. It was a game that I could barely run on a shit laptop I used to own. When I built a better computer I started playing other games. There is really no point in playing WoT when you have better games you can play. The game itself is total Free2play garbage. It's rigged as hell. It shouldn't be surprising that the community also garbage. A garbage game attracted a lot of garbage people. Adults addicted to gambling. Autistic loser faggots obsessed with in game stats.

I used to play World of Tanks a lot. I played from 2013-2016 pretty heavily. Then after that it was just every so often. When I built my own PC in 2016 and could play better games I stopped messing around with WoT as much.

My advice is don't waste your time on those shit free to play games.

If you want to search anything about Sony's shitty Pokemon ripoff in 2024 you have three options: decade-old English sites littered with dead links, sites written in broken English by an ESL, or blogs written in Spanish.

Aside from that, does Sonic count as niche nowadays? Because that fandom has two extremes and they're both obnoxious. On the one hand you have the 2D purists who bark at anyone who even hints at having enjoyed a game past Sonic 3 & Knuckles (they may or may not make an exception for Mania) and rant about muh momentum-based platforming, but on the other you have the fanboys who can find no flaw in the newer games and spout shit like "it's the first level it's fine if its a straight line", "it's fine if they reuse levels over and over again" and "it's fine if it looks like an Unreal asset flip".

Star Fox community I never interacted much with despite loving 64 and enjoying assault but the fans always did give me volatile hostility vibes that i'd imagine would be even more apparent if you stepped deeper into the community so none of that really surprises me

Unexamined Oldfag veneration is a consistent problem in all communities, like Cromwell we must free our land from retrofag popery. I played EverQuest back in the day. Surprised the game is still alive honestly. The remaining community is a 50/50 split.
