Entertainment in the internet has become worse than TV ever was. If you thought the people behind your screen were fake and plastic, youtubers have become twice as phony. It all starts coming together when you realize the bigger youtubers had always had either strong financial backing since the beginning via wealthy families or outright nepotism.
"Content", as they like to call it, sounds way more formal than "videos". It's a convenient way to disguise what your "work" really is. Someone filming themselves dancing is not the same as another filming a documentary, but both of them will call their stuff "content", and expect to be compensated for it.
Speaking of youtube documentaries...
When i think about what makes a good documentary, i think about a filming team heading into the grill where the meat's cooking. They have previous knowledge of the topic they're covering. They interview experts on the matter, they tend to bring multiple angles and people with different takes, if the doc is about someone, they try to interview people related to them, maybe even bring the actual person in. Overall, when you finish watching a good documentary, you feel like you've learned something new.
Clipping easily attained footage together and describing what happens in it for 2 hours is far from what comes to mind when i think about good documentaries. That's, at best, a recap.
Parasocialism is a sad phenomenon, kids want to have friends, they want to feel loved, they want to live in a community where they can exist comfortably and be social. I feel bad for them, but for youtubers, this is *the* moneymaker. Once they finally grasp having "the best community in youtube", they know these kids and/or mentally stunted adults become walking wallets. Only times parasocialism becomes a problem is when it affects *them* directly. Make no mistake, they will never acknowledge their reaping what they harvested, no, the issue will always be "they shouldn't be getting close to me unless they got paper in hand." Sometimes they'll even say this out in the open like that one bald twitch guy stuttering on mic about how he suffered from God Complex in front of a silent audience. He mentioned believing he was above the people in the audience.
Say what you want about fake TV hosts, at least they'd charismatic enough to make a pseudo supervillian speech like that entertaining.
Being a youtuber means you are one step closer than the average person in becoming a pedophile. This is universal and applies to every single one, even the "based" ones. If you're a big time youtuber i can say with 100% certainty you have already fingered at least one child. And even this is worse when compared to the TV/Big media child affairs. Those pedos had islands, degenerate clubs and other sick shit you could write novels about, fucking youtubers have texts. Can't even make that shit intriguing.
Im going back to radio. Art Bell left us too early
