What game did you finish today?

Yesterday, I finally beat The Saboteur. First started playing the game waaay back in 2010, according to my save files, but never got much farther than maybe 40% into it. Got distracted with other game, but finally sat down and finished it off. Despite being a game released in 2009, a lot of it is actually still really fun to play. Shame Pandemic, the studio that made it, was shitcanned weeks before the game was officially released.

I beat the last mission on Saint Row 2. It's my favorite sandbox game as of right now.

04/05 Edit: I also beat Spec Ops: The Line. That one went to a very interesting route. Kind of wished they did more with the gameplay, but at least, it isn't shit gameplay.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days just now; the credits for that game are scrolling on my DSi as I type this post. I plan on playing through on Proud mode/unlocking the other two mission mode characters eventually.

Just busted through The Witcher 2. Only made one playthrough, considering on doing the other since I understand the middle is an entirely different game, but I got a lot of other games to get through too. It's tempting though, I really enjoyed the story, even if I didn't understand who was fighting for what even through the end. I just kind of went, "Meh, I'm a Witcher. I'll do what I want." and went with that.

Still, I beat it once, I can at least say that much.

Finally beaten the main quest of Morrowind, defeating Dagoth Ur and destroying the Heart. I think I'll be tackling Tribunal and Bloodmoon's in the future but for now, I think I'm gonna take a break after all the backtracking and such.

I completed my all-rune Dungeon Crawl Stone soup run as an archer.

Finished Paradise Lost today. All I can say is that it was quite an adventure returning back to a town that was supposed to be destroyed by a nuke. I do find it funny that one of the people I ended killing in a rampage was Milo Yiannopolus. Also like how they made reference not only to Postal III but also the Postal movie in terms of using the movie poster and the actor who played the Postal Dude.

Just finished the PC version of Psychonauts. Great game. Very humorous, imaginative, awesome level design, an interesting cast, and a fun story to boot.

I should say that if there's anyone here who wants to play the game for themselves, STAY AWAY from the PS2 version. It is a pretty poor port of an otherwise very good game. The audio gets desynced with the FMV cutscenes, the framerate is pretty bad, and it just looks worse overall than other versions. Either get the XBOX or PC version instead.

I just finished playing RefleX. It's a very flashy vertical-scrolling shoot-em-up where you play as a ship that can use a shield to block and reflect bullets. The game is as hard as fuck though, it requires a heavy amount of memorization in order to make it to the end. The best part about this game though is near the end, where the developers pull off the ultimate dick move of causing you to lose an entire continue in one hit due to the fact that one of the bosses manages to severely damage your ship.

Continuing on my games backlog... in the past week I started and completed:
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Bulletstorm
Beautiful Katamari

No particular reason why they all begin with the letter B... just happened that way. Anyway, Brothers was decent enough, short game and a bit overwrought at the end, but decent enough. Bulletstorm was a game I started and beated in one day on Normal... honestly kind of wish the folks that made this made a sequel to it instead of another Gears of War. And beautiful Katamari is just concentrated gamer heroin. Not many games can I say I played so intently that I would stay up to 4am just to play.

Just beat Grim Fandango.

Good game. Good game. It had an interesting concept and for the most part, I felt it was executed very well. The characters were interesting and the puzzles were pretty creative and have some sense of logic too them. Some of them were pretty obscure though and I'll admit, I got stuck on quite a few of them and had to resort to help. Whether it be an online source or our good friend @Cuddlebug who helped me wrap up the loose ends in Year 2. But hey, that's how most adventure games are, so I can't really fault the game for that.

I do kinda feel that certain aspects probably could have been expanded upon. Like Manny and Meche's relationship. I don't know, I felt there could have been a few more conversations between them that would have made the eventual payoff more satisfying. I mean, I guess they did spend a year together getting to the edge of the world, so it makes sense that they would fall for each other during that time, but some more on screen interactions between the two would have been nice.

I also felt the game could have been a bit longer and spread out across more areas. I would have love to been to more places like Rubacava or got to explore more of El Marrow.

I did like how Manny himself changed over the course of the game. He started off as someone who only cared about what he wanted and didn't care about the welfare of others. i.e. He simply saw Meche as someone to use so he can pay off his dues. He became a bit more caring as the game went on and refused to go on to the ninth underworld without helping his friends.

I also like how snappy and hilarious the writing is. A particular example being Manny's... talk with the lady with the metal detector.

So yeah, overall, good game. Perhaps if I play through it a second time though I can pick up on stuff I missed and gain a better appreciation for the game. Who knows?

The game is roughly around decent length for adventure games at the time. When Grim Fandango came out it came out on CDs so there wasn't that much you could fit onto the disk without retreading parts of it. It's largely why I believe you go to Rubacava twice and see the same environments on the same disk (Disk 2).

Tim also said they planned to have Manny actually go to the Day of the Dead parade at the start of the game but due to technical limitations they were unable to put together scenes with lots of characters you could interact with.

That makes sense. I suppose it's just a case of me wanting more long after the journey is over...*sigh*

I forgot to mention about the game giving you the ability to switch to the original graphics if you so choose. I thought that was a really nice touch and pretty considerate towards those who may not care for the HD face lift.

Crap. I got the PS2 version some days ago. That doesn't sound good.

It's still playable. But if it's your first time playing, I definitely recommend the other versions. It should be able to run decently on most modern computers as it is a ten year old game.
